Pours a clouded golden honey orange body with a deep billowing marshmallow textured white head, forms fine even lacing with tiny bubbles floating around in this effervescent wild ale. Aroma is filled with tart lemony notes, spicy floral hops and brett funkiness...a good blend of different things going on from the first sniff. Strong herbal/spicy yeast with leathery tannin notes coming off giving the beer an assertive bitterness. Some sweet biscuit malt breadiness with light honey and citric rind fruit notes blending together, amongst a spicy yeast and light herbal hop blend. The complexity builds as it warms, including more of an alcohol presence...I didn't initially notice that this beer weighed in at 9% abv. Texture is nice on the palate, a bit of bear when it comes to dryness but I think it compliments the wild yeast nutty/funky/leather characteristics. Effervescent carbonation tickles the nares with a couple of those sips, nothing too abrasive for me. Definitely a medium bodied complex beer all around, that I wouldn't go rushing out for I'm glad I tried a 11.5 ounce portion, satisfying but anymore of it I would have had enough after my single serving.

Poured from an 11.2oz bottle into my Allagash glass. It poured a dull amber color with a thin white head barely covering the top of the beer.

The aroma shows some zesty and tart orange flavors with a touch of sour apple in there. Some pale, sweet, bready malts are there as well as a bit of caramel. It has a strong candied fruit sweetness to it though that is a little dominating.

The taste also has a mix of zesty and tart flavors to it. The sweeter, candied fruits are balanced by a tart, slightly sour fruit quality. Notes of caramel, sour orange and bready maltiness all come out in it.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with carbonation being a little above average. Overall, it was a pretty decent beer but it felt a little overly sweet and candy like at times. The tart, sourness helped though and was the highlight for me.

A- golden appearance with a frothy white head

S- sour, apples, funk, alcohol, bread, and yeast.

T- funk, a lil' barnyard, grain, spice, pear/apples, and alcohol.

M- bitter with nice carbonation and alcohol warmth going down.

O- I enjoyed this beer. It has a nice funk and bitterness which are characteristics i am just now starting to enjoy in beer. Will be trying again.

Poured in to a Corsendonk glass

A hazy orange-gold color that yielded a very fluffy three-finger white head.

Fairly sweet in the nose with apple and bready malts. A bit musty and funky.

Fruity and funky. Malt is sweet with notes of caramel. Lingering bitterness. Little bit of a boozy sting, but not too much.

Crisp a light body with a fair amount of carbonation. Very smooth.

Pours a hazy light yellow color with a big white head. In the aroma, sour maltiness and a note of fruit. In the taste, a dry sourness, green apple and a bit boozy. A small bite and a medium to lighter bodied mouthfeel, with a dry mix of green apple and a alcohol in the aftertaste. Sour but boozy, a bit too dry and yeasty but nice follow up with green apple.

Picked this up over the weekend at RSVP in Portland and pouring this 750 into a Duvel tulip glass.

Appearance: The beer poured a crazy three finger head that has somewhat reduced to one finger ans left some nice lacing on the glass. The beer is a clear golden straw yellow with lots of great signs of carbonation coming through the center of the glass.

Smell: apples, pears, vanilla, spiciness, bready malts, funky aroma. smells good with a wild side to it.

Taste: Same as above and the funkiness and the wild side is actually blended well with the sweetness of the apples, pears, vanilla, and Belgian candy. Fantastic. Pretty chill Brett beer compared to others I have had and very super enjoyable with the crazy funkiness that I love so much.

Mouthfeel: high carbonation, light to medium bodied, dry, easy to drink, and delicious.

Overall: pretty solid beer and I am happy to have stumbled across this one. Haven't seen it before, but will be enjoying more in the future.

Pours a murky light orange with a 2 inch puffy off-white head that settles to a thin cap on top of the beer. Small patches of foamy lace form around the glass on the drink down. There is also a good amount of sediment that settles to the bottom of the glass after the pour. Smell is very sweet and fruity with some slight yeast and funk aromas. Taste is also quite fruity and yeasty up front with some funky and earthy flavors on the finish. There is a musty and funky bitterness on the palate after each sip. This beer has a higher level of carbonation with a very crisp and prickly mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with some nice funky aromas and flavors.

A: pours a hazy golden, tight 3 finger head poured into a stemless wineglass, fades into a thin lacy coating...lasting the whole brew.

S: Belgian triple? sorta fruity, belgian yeast-like (despite the "wild" origins (brett/sacch)). possibly a hint of german hefe in there. banana. wet basement. makes me salivate from some perceived tartness...sour cherry?

T: spicy note...definite yeast. Boooze... 9% is definitely there. noticeable sweetness/malt. nice brown sugar notes as it warms. slight funk...the rubbery kind you get from a solid geuze. definitely different, not quite a sour...not quite your typical abbey ale. slight rubber-band bitterness. has qualities of a good barley wine...feels like tons of grains used for this one.

M: lively carbonation, think belgian. heavier than it looks, malty/syrupy in a way....but still light and clean. I like.

O: interesting for sure, definitely worth a try. slight bit of gueze funk blended with a belgian triple, with maybe 10% dubble mixed in for good measure. Alcohol noticeable up front, fades to a warming feel...but still a touch rough. overall good stuff. If I get more, I will age....hopefully the boozey edge will fade.

Was very intrigued by this bottle when it popped up on the shelves at work.

Poured into a stemmed tulip: 3 fingers' sparkling, fluffy white head over a crisp golden body with plenty of tiny strands of fast, tight nucleation. Head drops to a thick coating with a pleateau in the center, leaves gauzy lacing.

Interesting smell that evolves, starting with a typical white grape jelly into a green & herbal character, with a little dry mineral note & then, very curiously, something resembling Thai peanut sauce. Reminiscent of Orval, not an overwhelming Brett smell.

Pretty smooth white grape juice & pear up front in the taste, soon drying & introducing an earthy, grassy, hay-like, lightly bready & mineral character. Mixed in is a notable alcohol dryness, verging on unwieldy but keeping itself in check. Settles on a pleasant pear flavor.

Medium-full-bodied, buoyantly carbonated, definitely drying but not scathing.

Again, really reminds me of a bigger Orval or an imperial saison, not what I expected by very positively surprised. Wonder what it would be like to age.

This pours a light golden color. Floral aroma with a distinct tartness rounding it out. The flavor reminds me of spring berries—strawberries, mostly, for that combination of sweetness with a bit of a sour, funky feel to it. Dry, with a bitterness that snaps as it finishes.

11.2 oz bottle purchased at a local, recently-opened bottleshop for $7.50. Fermented with Saccharomyces and Brettanomyces. Wanted to pick up more than one, but I figure I should just test one out first.

Yellowed gold color with true hue. Big, dense head with a nice fluff and lumpy surface. Decent uneven stick on the glass. Had to pour this one in two stages.

Tart apple-y aroma with lemon peel notes and milled grains. A bit perfumey with spice notes of green peppercorn and coriander. Acetic acid and Belgian yeast.

Follows the nose with lemon peel, cleaned linens, wet paper, chalkiness, a touch of dry vinegar, and ethanol. Brett did this beer very well. Considerably dry finish with some puckery imploding going on in the pockets of the mouth. Nothing outrageous to speak of, but hell, this is a Belgian Strong Pale!

Slick body with bubbles. Bubbles that follow the liquid into the mouth on each sip and give your palate a good mop. Noticeable alcohol.

Very impressed by this one. Will be back to grab another bottle or two. I'm sure they're not going through it quickly.

Bright gold with a few floaties bobbing to and fro. Expansive white head settles into a lumpy blanket of thick foam. White wall retention. Bottle art has the Stark direwolf on it. But not really.

Aroma rocks my socks. Bright brett slightly green apple sour sweetness, bountiful golden fruits and cloves - the harvest is upon us! Smells a little like Drambuie actually.

Tastes like cinnamon sugar coated pear wedges. Dry, course finish puts a damper on the whole bright, springy beer.

An excellent example of a focused wild ale. It can be as complex as you care for it to be or a simple post-run refresher. I'm a big fan.

From notes on 1/13/12

A -- Pale brown/yellow, huge white head that settled down to 1", tons of lacing

S -- Fruit/sweet with definite brett funk, some pale/lightly toasted malt

T -- Bitter and dry; very little grain/malt taste; brett seems to overwhelm and dominate

M -- Very high carbonation, dry

O -- Reminds me a bit of Russian River Sanctification but not nearly as complex. I wasn't sure what to expect with the Wild Ale vs. the Belgian Strong Pale Ale...I get the wild ale, but not really the strong pale ale (though it is deceivingly high in alcohol).

Poured from an 11.2 oz bottle into a tulip- poured a bright golden color that was moderately hazy. Big three finger head that took a few minutes to settle down into a decent layer of foam. Not too much lacing.

Smells exclusively of Belgian yeast. It's a wonderful scent- mild and complex. Definitely go for a big sniff before you imbibe.

The taste is wonderful as well- nowhere near as tart as I was expecting. On the contrary, it was pretty sweet (malty not fruity or alcohol driven) with very balanced dose of the yeast. Slightly dry finish.

Mouthfeel is again wonderful- very refreshing. Light to medium bodied with full carbonation, but not too prickly. I might go back and get this beer again sometime in the next week.

not my favorite wild ale here. 750ml cork and cage rig, pours a very light, slightly hazy blonde color with a jovial bone white head. smells like applewine and a spring meadow. also belgian yeast and honey. flavor is identical, but very very light. green apples in the finish. the mouthfeel is so so light, almost to a fault. there isnt as much sour from the brett as i might have expected here. bitter at the end, maybe from the dry hop additions. plenty of bubbles though, and a delicate palate. overall not as exciting as some, but a good beer overall. for the price there are much better local wild ales here in colorado.

Aroma: Brett, horsey, some orange citrus, spearmint. Mildly reminiscent of a wild ale and ESB. Sweet & bitter cherries. Definitely a floral presence.

Appearance: Massive white head. Pale yellow in color. Mostly clear, just a bit of haze. TONS of lacing. Good retention. Leave a thin layer of puffy white head with some large bubbles. You can see lots of sediment accompanied by lots of head in the bottle after pouring half of the brew into a glass.

Taste: Light and sweet malts, quickly followed by brett, smoke, lemon, and yeast. More bitter than sweet, but still nicely balanced. Burnt caramel. The alcohol is nicely hidden.

Mouthfeel: Medium body. Mild carbonation. The bitterness stings the inside of the mouth. Never imagined this being oily, but it never gives a drying sensation.

Overall: Funky, but nicely balanced. Sweet first, followed by the bitterness. Light, goes down easy. It takes an effort to slow down and really savor this one.

Appearance: Pours a mostly clear, but very slightly cloudy, gold into a tulip, topped with a big, fluffy white head that dissipates slowly, leaving great lacing.

Smell: In a word, intriguing. Flowers, citrus, apples, a little horse blanket and a whiff of the barnyard.

Taste: It’s not quite what I expected based on the nose, but it’s quite spectacular. Hops are more forward than the nose would suggest, and they bring a very clean, bracing bitterness to the beer. Surrounding the hops are a nice citrus tart sourness, a mellow funk, warming esters and bready malts. It’s not quite as funky as I expected – more like a well-balanced Flemish sour American IPA – but it’s really excellent.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, but quite light on the tongue.

Drinkability: The balance and the mouthfeel of this one makes the drinkability quite high despite the high ABV.

A-Pours a see-through apple juice color. The slightest pour amasses n absolutely gigantic pillow of bleach-white head. This is one of the most (if not the most) blatantly carbonated beers I have ever seen. Bubbles rise like a swarm of locusts to the ever-growing head. Impressive, and a bit daunting.

S-Fruity with more than enough funk. Spicy and delectably sweet. I am flat-out impressed by the nose here. Possesses enough funk/tartness to really make me want a sip. This beer truly smells like hay. Sweet fruits are of the pale flesh variety (apples, pears, etc.).

T-Flavor is much sweeter than I was expecting. Also has a bit of a metallic aftertaste. Tastes like a flat, sweet champagne. The funk is less impressive than the nose suggests. Still, crisp fruits and residual sweetness. Alcohol becomes apparent. Hay and spice are detected as well.

M-Medium body. Carbonation is sharp, but not not overbearing. The beer looks as though it could pop your tongue via the carbonation. However, as I sip, I find the carbonation to be strong yet not over excessive.

O/D-The appearance and the nose really impressed me. However, the flavor did not live up to its preceding reviewing components. At under $4 for a 11.2oz. beer, it isn't a waste of money. I was a bit let down with this beer, but I guess it could be worth a try.

A-golden ale, pilsner look with a nice fluffy white head that dissapates quickly.

S-great funk smell, typical to a Cantillon or similar but with no fruitiness

T-dryness and funk. A little too dry and more like a geuze to me. Still well done though.

M-light and smooth. Very drinkable.

12 oz bottle poured into a Town Hall snifter.

A- Poured a one finger white head that dissipates to a thin bubbly layer on top, nice golden straw color, nice carbonation, looks like Champaign.
S- Really light refreshing aroma, love the mild sour notes, yeast, nothing too overpowering though, sweet, some spice, apple, really nice aroma to this beer.
T- Very similar to the aroma, really light easy drinking Wild Ale, some apple, spice, yeast, mild funk comes out, floral/grassy notes.
M- Light mouth feel, well carbonated, really fizzy, crisp finish, easy drinkability, does not drink like a 9% abv beer.
O- Not bad, nothing mind blowing, I could easily drink a few of these, I did enjoy the beer, but its nothing I would have any interest in finding again.

A - Pale, crystal clear golden body with champagne-like strands of carbonation floating up. A super sticky white head, hanging to the glass like a cappuccino frothy head.

S - A pretty funky nose. Tons of bread and barn! Old wood, historical museum, and an attic all painted with caramel infused paint. Sweet and sour, funky and earthy.

T - Deeply complex, with a load of flavor. A yeasty overload and stimulation of the palate. Dry leather, funky wood, medicinal kick, spicy alcohol, toasted biscuits. A good deal of fruit skin and funky yeast twang. A wine-like quality in the finish. So smooth and flavorful. The abv is presented well.

M - Such a rich and luscious beer. This beer is complex in its mouth too, giving the palate a full bodied, smooth, dry experience. The fizzy carbonation contributes to the overall balance.

O - FANTASTIC.
