A: The beer is very dark reddish brown (close to near black) in color. It poured with a short tan head that died down but never completely faded away.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of chocolate malts and cherries in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and also has some hints of roasted malts and sourness. No bitterness is detectable.
M:It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is a beer that is both very flavorful and drinkable. It is remiss cent of a light stout.

Poured from a 750 ml into a duvel glass

A: pours a deep dark murky brown with two and a half fingers of browned head that sticks around for a bit.... Leavs tons of sticky lacing as it recedes, wouldve given the appearance a 4.5 but the head was pushing obnoxious.

S: sour cherry juice and earthy tart Brett funk right up
Front, this brew smells a lot more sour then I expected, which is not a bad thing. I also get a lift roasted note along with coffe
And chocolate from the Malts, smells interestingly delicious.

T: this has an interesting flavor profile, I deffinatly get the sour cheery and earthly brett up front but then in the backbone I get an interesting smoke note that blends into dark fruit, plums, slight prune, along with notes of chocaye and coffee, it makes sense that this is a mash up of a porter and a Dubbel... I also get notes of banna and apple mixed in there as well, and there is deffinatly a vinous character from the Brett, this is a very complex brew.

M: medium bodied with medium carbonation and a creamy porter like mouthfeel.

O: this is a very complex beer, it is a slightly sour cherry chocolate porter with dubbel like quad and Belgian sugar and yeast notes. Very complex, deffinatly an interesting
And different brew.

Reviewed from notes (late-June tasting), just too busy to get in until today.

On the pour, this beer had tons of head that stuck around for a while. The foam led to somre really lumpy lacing. This beer is super dark. It was technically brown, which you only get while holding it up to the light or get down to the bottom of the glass.

It has a very sour nose. You pick up a ton of cherry. The flavor is very over-whelming.

The beer feels like a porter.

This was a very complicated beer. A little pricey, but well worth it if you can afford it.

Review from 9/2010 notes. Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a dark, dark red amber with a slight tan head and lacing. Aroma of cherries and spice with a bit of sour. Starts with light cherry sour, light malt, a moderate vinous flavor that carries through to a somewhat cherry sour, smooth finish. A somewhat astringent bitterness at the finish. Complex and well integrated, with a distinct wine-like component. Faint brett flavor that is satisfactory, but reasserts itself on warming. Moderate body. Nicely made, but finish isn't all that attractive to me. Pricey too.

A dark amber color with a little extra dose of brown. Sort of oxidized at this point, but nice cherry and caramel aromas. A bit of brown sugar and toffee, maybe a slight roast. Too much cardboard for my tastes, though. The flavor is similarly old and oxidized. Prunes, plums, and cherries give a decent fruit character and there is a lot of sugary sweetness to it as well. Still can’t quite escape the cardboard.

Sample: 1 bottle 2009 (aged 3 years)

A: Almost completely dark with a deep ruby edge halo, pours a sturdy light brown head that is quite intrepid, moderate internal carbonation, unknown translucency

S: A very complex nose, heavy cherries and dried fruits, some vanilla and sugar cane, even some espresso elements rounded off with a touch of alcohol, quite fragrant

T: A flavor as complex and delicious as the nose, dried fruits, cherries, espresso, malt, chocolate, a bit of funk, almost tastes exactly like a chocolate covered cherry, no alcohol, very flavorful

M: Incredibly smooth, melts in the mouth, perfectly balanced, drinkable, easy on the palate, light fruity aftertaste, not drying in the slightest

O: Nice to look at, fragrant, flavorful, smooth, and complex, one of the better beers I've experienced, definitely worth a try (may have already peaked but still pretty amazing)

1 pint 9.4 fl oz brown glass bottle with hood and wire cap over a cork served into a Guinness goblet in me gaff in low altitude Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are very high; I think this is my first beer from Bell's Brewery. Cork is labelled "Bell 01". No best before date is visible. A so called "mash-up" of a porter and dubbel according to the label.

Served refrigerator cold and allowed to warm over the course of consumption. Side-poured as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a half finger head of nice cream, decent thickness, and average retention considering the ABV. Colour is a weak light solid black. No yeast particles are visible due to its opaque nontransparency.

Sm: Very yeasty, with sour cherry, bacteria, cream, hints of porter-esque chocolate, and subtle fruit esters: grapefruit and apple (of all things). A moderate strength aroma. Complex, but strange. I wouldn't call it appealing or unappealing.

T: Some sour cherry and yeast are the first things I notice. The portery notes - weak chocolate and cream - collide with the rest of the beer, unsettling the balance. I like the cherry. The hop fruit esters hardly come through at all even when I search for them. Some candied sugar. Biscuity malt. Dark malts. The cherry juice on the finish is nice. A strange taste all around. Full bodied. No alcohol comes through. It's pleasant but far from refreshing. I like it, but I'm not looking forward to downing a whole bottle of it. It isn't unique or special.

Mf: Some cream. Smooth and wet. Too thick. Adequately carbonated. Suits the flavours decently.

Dr: Drinkable to an extent - you wouldn't want a full bottle to yourself because it's neither particularly high in quality nor particularly refreshing. I like that they're experimenting, but this needs work. I wouldn't recommend this to friends, nor would I get it again. Extremely pricey for the limited quality. Hides it ABV well. A disappointment coming from brewers that are so respected. I hope Bell's other offerings are better.

Gets a bit better as it warms.

Drank fine out of me goblet. Perhaps a tulip or snifter is best.

I guess it'd age okay. It's not at a good starting point as is.

750ml bottle pouted into a Tulip Glass.

A - Pours darkest brown with slightly crimson edges and a creamy, khaki-colored head that settles to a slight haze, leaving behind sheets of sticky lacing.
S - Sweet malt, dark chocolate, and tart cherries. Pretty nice, reminds me of a cherry cordial.
T - Taste is pretty close to the nose, lots of dark malt, coffee, chocolate, and more tart cherries. Very similar to Bells Cherry Stout, which makes sense given the collaboration.
M - Smooth and a touch creamy, with a medium mouthfeel and fairly crisp carbonation.
O - A solid beer, and a nice take on the usual Bells Cherry Stout. I had this on-tap a couple of years ago, and this bottle didn't seem quite as good as it was then. Maybe my taste has just changed a bit.
