A: Dark brown and black body, with a light tan fluffy head. Some lacing spots, but not much. The head stands well.

S: Roasted notes of coffee, slightly metallic, and maple syrup (very faint).

T: Lots of roasted flavor. I can taste the grain flavor, backed by some rich coffee-like espresso flavor. I get a hint of maple, but not much. The bottle label says "Maple Pecan Porter" but I don't taste any pecan. This is predominantly a roast-forward porter. It is a good robust porter though. Some maple syrup in the aftertaste.

M: The mouthfeel is pretty dry but retains just enough texture not to dry out the mouth completely, and maintains a smooth dryness. It's slightly sticky, moderate grain bitterness, and is very easy to drink. It would be very easy to drink a few of these.

O: Overall I thought the beer was nice...for a porter. I got some maple but I felt it was buried behind the roasted flavors. I didn't get pecan at all. I felt robbed in these respects. It's not a bad beer by any scale, but it just didn't seem to work. I would enjoy drinking it as a porter, but I probably won't be buying it again. I can get nearly the same experience with any run-of-the-mill porter out there.

Appearance: Dark chestnut; frothy medium beige head; long lasting, good lacing

Aroma: Sweet; light praline smell; light coffee smell; faint chocolate

Taste: Sweet malt dominates up front; light maple syrup flavor mixed with pralines; good carbonation level; ends sweet and smooth; pretty tasty overall

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a 14 oz "pint" glass. Pours a dark red/black with a small off white head. Smells of some coffee, but it almost smells if maple syrup was dumped in the beer, but it doesn't ruin it. Tastes initially of coffee very strongly, then finishes very nicely with the maple syrup, very nice contrast and balance. Beer is very lightly carbonated, and for a medium body, goes down nicely and could possibly be sessionable. Overall a very good beer.

Appearance: Dark brown with some reddish hues and one finger of light tan head that fades to a thin cap with a curtain of lace.

Aroma: Roasted malt and cocoa, that's about it.

Taste: Just a hint of syrup sweetness at the onset, then lots of roasted malt. As the malt fades a little, there is a definite maple note that pokes up leading to a slightly nutty, chalky and fairly astringent finish. A good amount of carbonation towards the back end help break-up any one flavor.

The Rest: Body is just on the thin side of medium and drinkability is very good. This is the second beer in the sampled pack that I've been quite impressed with.
