Bottle from Winter Variety pack poured into a pint glass. Freshness date of March 2011 notched on bottle.
Appearance: Pours a cloudy light amber/golden orange color with a thick two-finger head which disappears rather quickly, leaving some nice bubbly lacing down the glass. Not a whole lot of carbonation in this beer, from what I can see.
Smell: I wasn't sure what to think at first. This definitely has a less "boozy" smell than any other beer I've tried: There are hints of oranges, tons of spices which I can't even begin to identify, and more citrus-like types of smells. Also a very slightly floral hop edge to the aroma.
Taste: This beer is very crisp and clean in its taste - there's a slightly strange note of a cracker-like taste to start things out, along with some fairly robust spices. I don't know if sweet is necessarily the word for it, but certainly refreshing and challenging; some tangy orange zest pervades the finish. Very interesting, although I don't know if it's my cup of tea (or beer, no pun intended). Some notes of fruits and sweetness linger throughout the beer as it goes down, very little presence in the way of hops or bitterness.
Mouthfeel: The zesty flavor is complimented by the unfiltered character of this beer, and the mouthfeel is fairly clean and slightly dry in the finish. Very refreshing over all, a definite thirst-quencher.
Drinkability: Just from personal opinion, I could put down a few of these on a summer day or even into fall, but this just doesn't seem to be a very drinkable brew in the winter; although it serves a great contrast to many of the seasonal beers during fall and winter. Very drinkable, I guess it would just depend on the mood I'm in.

Love this beer. Could just be my personal tastes changing a bit over time, but I remember it being slightly better when it was a spring seasonal. Again, not sure if it's actually changed, or it's just me.
Whenever I've gotten the beer on tap, it always has a nice head, and there seems to be a lot going on in the beer. Hints of orange, a good amount of typical Sam Adams flavor, and even a hint of ginger.
Feel good on the tongue, not too dry. Very refreshing, yet tasty at the same time. Still excellent in a bottle, but better on tap.
