Had this one 11 years ago back in July 2012. Taken from handwritten notes. Probably poured into a Duvel glass. Water or beer faded the ink and made some of the parts illegible.
Appearance - Big tan head. Clear dark amber ruby body. Fluffy head with decent to good retention and low stick. 4
Smell - Cinnamon. Apple Juice [??? ??? ???] Corny sweetness [???] 4
Taste - Sweet front. Apple juice [???] dry. Balanced. 4.5
Mouthfeel - Smooth and very drinkable. The balance keeps the mouth from getting overloaded, yet doesn't lack texture. 4
Overall - Very well balanced and drinkable. Perfect session beer from Sam. 4.5

Attractive red hues, professional grade clarity with half inch of head. Average retention. Inconsistent lacing. Aroma did not deliver on the mighty oak imagery.
Taste was the same way, very minimal oak presence, under utilized hopping schedule I think. Comes off as virgin oak, doesn't have anything else going for it. A version of this with more oak, more hops would be a better version. Decent base to start with.

Had this beer some time ago entering it here just to catalog it. Oak flavor was way too strong and just plain tasted wierd to me. Have tried many Sam Adams beers but finding one I like is rare.
