A- Brownish red and clear with a pretty decent head
S- Sweet and malty overall, with a tinge of oak.
T- Very sweet and fruity, with no real bitterness or hop character that stands out. There is the mind flavor of oak which is quite pleasant and keeps the beer from being cloyingly sweet.
M- Full and slightly heavy. Not terribly highly carbonated.
O- A good ale, definitely worth having, but lacks some of the complexity of other oak ales. I suspect that it hasn't been aged very long, but I'm not an expert so I can't be certain. Still, overall well done and well balanced.

From: Binny's, Schaumburg, IL
Date: Best by June 2012 (stored in a fridge since purchase)
Glass: Standard US pint glass
Mighty Oak ale comes across as a fairly solid, malt-forward amber ale, with ample focus on caramelized sugars, toasted malts, and noticeable oak. The style itself is often not considered particularly exciting, and it's nice to see a brewery trying something novel (oak aging) to see what it brings to the senses. A pleasant, malty beer that would be satisfying in the early spring or later fall months.
Pours a beige, 1cm tall head of small bubbles, which features average retention, fading to a thin ring of bubbles around the glass and a small island of foam in the center, atop the body. Lacing is fairly minimal, a few minor spots and lines scattered along the interior of the glass. The body is a dark amber-brown color, light bringing out brighter orange, yellow, and brown tones around the perimeter. Carbonation is visible through the slightly hazy body, as it is somewhat numerous and vigorous.
Aroma of caramel malt sweetness, brown sugar, slightly toasted malts lending a faint nuttiness, and some minor berry and oak character. In all, more reminiscent of a fairly solid bock than an amber ale, rather enjoyable if you're into malts.
The beer focuses on malts, with major flavors being caramelized sugar sweetness, toasted bread and nuts, slight bitterness from hops, and a modest oak character. As with the aroma, quite bock-like, and pleasant if you appreciate malty beers. Opens with mild notes of oak and stronger caramel malt sweetness, leading to a mid-palate of more toffee and caramel, slight toasted bread and nuts, wood/oak, and some dry leaf-like flavor. Back of palate finds continued caramel and toffee-like flavors/sweetness with a more noticeable toasted bread/nut flavor, dry leaves, and very faint bitterness (from hops?). Aftertaste of sweet caramel and toasted malts, oak, dry leaves, and faint berry-like esters.
Beer is medium-bodied with medium-low intensity carbonation. The mouthfeel is never fizzy, though carbonation can be lightly felt as it slightly foams the beer upon palate contact. The result is a semi-foamy, semi-smooth mouthfeel that generally balances the weight and flavors well. Closes fairly dry, with ample stickiness left lingering on the palate.
