Dark ruby. Almost black. Thick crop of light brown head. Good retention and nice lacing. Nice aroma of roasted malts and piney hops. Good blend. This blend carries nicely to the flavor. This black IPA tends to tip the balance more on the side of the roasted malt and coffee tones. The pine and citrus is there as well, but the pendulum swings to the "black" part of this beer...and that's not a bad thing. It's a very flavorful easy drinking beer.

A - Pours black with massive three finger head. Head has excellent retention.

S - Smell is predominantly malts, roasted and chocolate, and some citrus notes.

T - Taste is chocolate malt and piney hops. While the hops definitely play a rolehere and persist in the aftertaste, this is a very malt-forward beer. Some lingering earthiness as well.

M - Medium creamy body, somewhat dry on the finish from both hops and earthy malts.

O - Not hoppy enough to be a black IPA. I'm not sure how this should be classified, but it feels like it can't commit. The hops get a bit muddled. Pretty tasty, but not something I would seek out.
