Poured from 750mL corked & caged bottle into a tulip.

Appearance: rich golden hue with a light haze and a huge, active effervescence. Head is two fingers of pillowy ivory foam with decent retention. A bit of a darker tripel, but I like it.

Smell: aroma is very perfumey and spicy. There's a nice sweet malt underneath, but the character here is almost more bière de garde than tripel. Decent, but not as clean as I like the style to be.

Taste: big, sweet malt with a good fruity contribution from the alcohol. A bit sticky, which is good. Some of that spiciness remains (sort of a nutmeg, maybe?), but it actually works well in the mélange of flavor. I like it.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a mammoth creaminess. This beer is carbonated like crazy, to good effect!

Overall: I like this beer. The aroma is a little bit unusual for my taste, but it tastes good and it ticks most of the tripel boxes for me. It's definitely worth having.

very nice head and very fine lacing.head is about 3 fingers.the smell is appealing and very tropical fruit nuance.pineapple seems to predominate.the taste starts off very smooth and appealing, but soons turns sour rather than bitter.some people may like this, but i consider this a fault.the mouthfeel is medium, but slightly hot, however not off putting.except for the sourness,i would have rated this much higher,if not for the sourness.

Hard to pass up these classy packaged bottles from the gang at Boston Beer.

Pours an apricot colored orange with a sea foam head. Decent staying power on the head as well.

Nose is like a Caribbean fruit fiesta. Bananas, pineapple, nectar, and so on. If this wasn't a beer, I might be tempted to throw some rum in here, one of those goofy little drink umbrellas and sip the concoction though a straw. But, no need to get that silly.

The taste reminds me of North Coast's Grand Cru, which I fell head over heels over, though this one is a bit rougher with a more pronounced carbonation. I get honey, mellow tropical fruit, light spices, citrus notes, and a touch of vanilla. Nice combo of flavors here.

I can see drinking this "New World" beer in another world - sitting on a beach, listening to Jimmy Buffet. I may be back soon to grab more of the remaining stock of this one, as I suspect we are in limited edition territory here.

A - Two plus fingers worth of audibly fizzy billowing quickly receding effervescent bone white colored head comprised of uniform medium sized bubbles... The color is a vibrant pale golden honey... Ultra clean and 100% translucent... A slight bit of moderate paced carbonation rises within...

S - Quite pleasant... An interesting mix of tropical fruits and vanilla to start... The tropical fruits take on a pineapple and mango character... There is also a big honey component at the forefront... There is a slight Belgian yeast component... The clove, pepper and assorted other spices linger beneath the surface... For all the great aromas, they blend together a bit to easily and there isn't as much nuanced complexity as I would have like...

T - There is a slight alcohol induced heat upfront that lingers throughout and intensifies on the finishes... It's a touch overpowering and it obscures almost everything else that tries to emerge on the palate... The tropical fruit and honey is completely missing... The vanilla and spices (predominately pepper) are the most prominent, but don't compliment one another well in the absence of everything else...

M - On the fuller side of medium bodied... An over abundance of sharp fizzy carbonation... A bit of heat throughout... Way too rough around the edges...

D - As a lover of both Tripels and Barrel Aged offerings, this one was a bit of a disappointment... The booziness, which isn't off the charts, is strong enough to obscure the rest of this brew... Looks and smells decent... Stumbles a bit in terms of taste and mouthfeel... The overall result is a resounding "meh..." Sorry Samuel Adams, but I hope the rest of teh Barrel Room Collection is a notch (or two) above this one...
