Sam Adams's LONGSHOT Cranberry Wit pours light amber, slightly yellow in a pint glass. Surprising complexity to this brew; good amount of cranberry and Belgian inspired yeast with every sip.
Personally: I did not expect much, but was pleasingly taken aback by this beer. Recommended, especially for the Blue Moon crowd...

I've had this bottle in the fridge for such a long time, finally got around to reviewing it. Served in a Sam Adams perfect pint glass. Beer is amber and hazy with a pinkish tinge to it, soft white head, medium bubbles, some lacing, moderate carbonation.
Aroma is sweet with mild vegetalness.
Beer is spicy / sweet with some fruitiness and a grainy finish. Maybe it always tasted like this but I'm not a fan. I got the review but I sort of regretted it. I did drink the whole thing though, wouldn't have it again.

When I see the words "cranberry" and "ale" on the same label, I think of sickly-sweet flavors that cross cough syrup with concentrated wine coolers. Thus it was with some trepidation that I tried "Cranberry Wit." However, the first whiff let me know that my fears were, at least in some part unfounded; instead of massive fruity sugars a la Boone's, I instead noted scents far closer to a quality Belgian: orange and coriander, with hints of wheat. There was only the slightest intimation of cranberry at the edges.
On the tongue, much of this also carried across: the Belgian-style flavors translated well, but were joined by a carbonated cinnamon-cranberry note that seemed more like something from a Clearly Canadian or a Hint Water (i.e. a quality flavored water). Strangely, these flavors mingled quite well, playing off each other nicely over a subtle layer of toasted grains.
The ale is sweeter than average, yes, and far more fruity, but the cranberry is held back just enough to make the ale interesting and not overpowering. Well worth a try, in other words; I can see why this won the LongShot competition.
