Enjoyed from a bottle, poured into pint glass.
A: Clear amber reddish-brown color, with one finger slightly off white head and decent lacing.
S: Pretty solid- there's a good amount of pumpkin and light spices; sweet. Hop profile not too noticeable but about what you may be expecting from a pumpkin beer.
T: Huge pumpkin flavor maybe owing to the freshness, great balance between sweetness and spiciness due presumably to the spices and pumpkins' natural kinship with them. Cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and ginger all seem to show up. Not noticing too much other malt or hops- just a light toasted flavor and lingering bitterness due to hops- but not sure that's the goal of a pumpkin beer anyhow. On the finish, I get much more pumpkin than I do in some more expensive brews. I notice that some of the more negative reviews have critiqued an absence of pumpkin, but for my money the pumpkin flavors in the beer of both my review bottle and those from my harvest 12 pack were stronger than those of the spices.
M: Mid body with medium to lively carbonation. Smooth and lightly creamy; lends itself to a lingering pumpkin aftertaste.
O: Solid offering from Sam Adams; while the best pumpkin beers on the market (pumking and punkin, perhaps, at least in the Midwest) are quite expensive, I can see myself picking this one up a few times throughout the season when I'm feeling a pumpkin beer. Already grabbed a sixer after tasting it in the harvest 12 pack. Pretty drinkable, I had no problem going through two of these in a night alongside various other beers.
