Cloudy brown body allows only a sliver of light around the very edge of the glass, but is otherwise opaque. Thin, cream-colored head leaves a sparse and scattered lace.
Catching wheat, clove, molasses and prune up the schnoz. Heavy smelling, yet fresh - without the hop.
Creamy mouthfeel a real plus here. Really tempers the alcohol and overripe fruit combo. Some faint wood (cedar?) in there brings in a slight scotch appeal. Coats the inside of the mouth and lingers long after the swallow. Alcohol shuffles itself to the forefront at the end, and these last sips yield a new taste (or was it there all along?) - a sort of saspriilla that escorts the beer to its end.
There is more beer here than I expected, and it's rather tasty and complex. I can see how this won Sam's homebrew contest. Wish I could brew like that.
