Original tasting - Feb 18, 2008. Pours a dark murky brown with a medium head. The aroma is a real smack in the face. Big clove, bubblegum, ripened fruits and spicy malt. Wonderful. Flavor is malts, spice, clove, banana. What a surprise this was. Thank you Mr. Kibzey.

grassy grain like smells in hear with a decent enough amount of yeast thrown in for good measure. full of life and grain for that matter. A very Belgian like flavor, witha good amount of light fruit like yeast and hints of pears and apples mixed in among the various grain like flavor

Appearance: Nice frothy one inch head. Good carbonation. Color is a lighter shade of mahogany.
Smell: Sweet with raisin hints along with the alcohol. Caramel notes also coming through with what appears to be a bubble gum/cotton candy scent as well.
Taste & Mouthfeel: Hearty upon contact. Has a sweet biscuit flavor. Then that raisin hue comes into play. An ever so slight clove/perfume mixture comes next and then a subtle sting of alcohol at the end. Smooth and pleasant candy-like aftertaste.
Drinkability: I love the concept behind Sam Adam's "Longshot" series. It's always interesting to see people's take on different styles and this Weizenbock was an admirable homage.

A: Hazy and chestnut brown with a thick 1+ finger of cream-colored head that slowly dissipates to a rocky cap with nice lacing.
S: Heavy on banana, dark dried fruits and clove. Spot on for the style.
T: Spicy, malty, has held up quite well after a year + in the fridge. Finish is crisp and clean, and really leaves me wanting more after each sip.
M: Crisp with a fizzy carbonation that tingles the tongue long after visible carbonation has subsided.

A solid weizenbock. Pours standard muddy brown, smell is of candied fruits, coriander, and mild malt sweetness. Nose is followed by taste, with a strong banana and mild melon to counterbalance the spice and moderate alcohol. All in all a good weizenbock, a style that is sorely underrepresented in the current market. Cheers to Jim for bringing this one to the market, even if I only got a few bottles of it.

Reviewed 4/17/2008 (bottle):
Pours a dark brown colored body, very murky, with a smallish but lasting gray colored head. Has a flowery grapey aroma. An okay body. Has a flowery taste, but too much fruit in the taste. A little heavy, but without the flavor.

12 oz. bottle tried 7 Mar 2008.
Large creamy colored head. Well carbonated. Dark and cloudy, cola colored. Smells of licorice, root beer, and bubblegum. Tastes of sweet bananas and root beer. Lots of phenols. Somewhat tart and astringent in the finish. Medium body, coats the tongue. Alcohol hidden.
Ended up with a headache almost immediately after finishing this, not sure if this was the cause (was the first and only drink of the night) but gave the other five away just in case.

Poured into a tall, Weihenstephan wheat glass...
Appears a murky, dark amber with ruby edges when held to the light. A fluffy, 3 finger, off white cap slowly fades into a velvet cap that floats atop of the brew for the whole duration. Plenty of scattered lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of caramel, toasted wheat, cloves, and cocoa powder with a touch of biscuits and alcohol making this one of the closest American examples of Aventinus that I've found.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with wheat, caramel, cloves, and a touch of bananas mix together nicely. A very tasty version of the style.
Mouthfeel is full bodied, syrupy, chewy, with sweet brown sugar and cloves rousing the palate with tasty goodness.
Damn...now, that's a good beer(and a good Weizenbock). Too bad it's not part of the regular lineup. I'd surely buy it.

Cloudy brown/amber with a 3/4" head. The head falls slowly to a cap and leaves behind nice lacing. Lots of bubble gum, yeast, roasted malts in the nose...some clove as well. Fruit, light chocolate or roast qualities..bubble gum yeastiness and even a little banana and clove spiciness in the finish along with an almost sour twang - all the right qualities. Medium bodied - low to mid level of carbonation. Very good.

Sam Adams LongShot Weizenbock is a cloudy brown lager with a thin, leathery beige head with some oily bubbles. It leaves good lacing. It has a burly, grainy aroma that's the slightest bit sweet. There are grassy hops and a woody spice in the nose. It's pretty full bodied; fluffy, crunchy on the palate. It's the slightest bit sweet on the tongue. There is a definite prune flavor. The bitterness is dark chocolate and some kind of berry. It's like a brownie with gravy on it. Not for the faint of heart. This will put hair on your chest. Tastes rather like an ale.

Its good I tried this after the grape pale ale. Pours murky brown with a thick, creamy tan head. Nose is ripe banana, clove, brown sugar, toast; like a fresh banana bread. Thick mouthfeel. Great taste. Again like a banana bread, but with spicy hops, molasses, and bubblegum yeast esters. Did not expect such a good beer.

It pours a clear brown color with a thin, off white head that dissapears to never return.
Typacle dark fruits in the nose. Alcohol comes through too much in the nose.
Also the alcohol comes through too much in the flavor too.
Not very drinkable, it's too sweet.
This not a good rendition of the style.
