Into a globe.

A - A mahogany brown with a rich ivory head. Poor retention and lacing.

S - Toasted malts and sweet bananas coat my nostrils. A rich juiciness which makes this quite nice.

T - Juicy fruits, lesser banana than I anticipated, alongside caramel malts and a bready melody.

M - Medium bodied with ample carbonation to set off the flavors.

O - This is a strong beer coming from America's rather poor inventory in this style. The German counterparts are indeed better, but this is not a failure.

Poured from a bottle into tumbler pint, the beer is a clear, hazelnut coloring with no lick of head whatsoever. Aromas of clove spicing, malty sweetness of caramel and toffee, and an overall roasting. Flavors are sweet, with a toffee and caramel backbone that is kept in check by the light, carbonated body. Roasty, warmly spiced characteristics. The aftertaste is sugary sweet, with some balance from spicing, but the sweetness wins out. Sharp, effervescent in mouth at the end, with a slight sweet linger.

Served from bottle into a shaker. Poured brown with a one finger off-white head that subsided to a minimal amount very quickly. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, bread, wheat, and grain. The flavor was of sweet malt, bread, wheat, grain, and earth. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a decent brew. While this was a decent example of the style, it really didn’t stand out from others I have had. There were some good things going on here with the bread and wheat, but also some things that it could have done without as in the earthiness. While it was nice to have something different going on, it can also hurt a brew unfortunately. Worth trying at least once to judge for yourself, but I doubt I will be having it again if I am completely honest as there are better easy to get ones out there.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams "Perfect Pint" glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazy copper amber orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Huge five finger off white creamy head with good retention. Leaves a good amount of lacing around the glass.

Smell: A yeasty, malty, and fairly spicy aroma. Wheat and Bavarian yeast with hints of bananas, clove, bubblegum, apple, pear, citrus orange, and a little nutmeg. Bready toasted malts with hints of caramel, toffee, dark bread, and biscuit. Some earthy and spicy noble hops in the background. A pretty nice aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma gives off, a nice sweet and complex flavor of wheat, malts, and spices. Wheat grains and yeast upfront with a taste of bananas, clove, apple, pear, bubblegum, nutmeg, and some orange. A nicely sweet taste of toasted malts with notes of dark bread, caramel, toffee, biscuit, and a subtle kick of roast chocolate. Some spicy noble hops help balance things out in the back end. After a few sips a light aftertaste of smoke lingers. A pretty good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, crisp, and very smooth.

Overall: A pretty good version of the Dunkelweizen style. Nice fruity esters and spicing. The smoke adds a interesting kick.

With all the beers I've had, this is going to be a style tick. Dunkelweizen has never sounded like a beer style that'd appeal to me, so I've avoided them. Two in the newest Sam Adams seasonal pack has left me with no choice, so here we go.

Samuel Adams Dunkelweizen pours a copper color with a small head. The aroma is just what I feared it would be. Clove and banana, my two least favorite beer flavors coming in for the tag team. The taste is more restrained than the nose, with roasted barley and caramel malts working with the banana and slight clove flavor, along with some nutmeg. The mouthfeel is light and velvety, and the drinkability is decent. Not my favorite Sam, but it's probably a decent representation of a style that isn't really for me.

Served in a weizen glass.

Appearance: Slightly cloudy amber, with an off white (maybe 1/3") had that look to have an orange tint to it. The bubbles pressed against a light pretty heavy.

Smell: You know what it smells like toasted bread meets light banana. It is light though and wish I could rate this gem a little higher.

Taste: I have had similar beers and this one is a gem. Little sweet but still bitter has banana plus a caramel feel to go with it.

Mouth: Smooth, little sweet after taste but still smooth. The honey after-feel to it is absolutely no lie.

Overall: This beer is the really GOOD...not perfect but considering how easy it is to get and the quality brew that it is, love it. Hope you enjoy as much as I did...Salud!

A- Red-Copper. Fairly clear (surprisingly for a weizen), head is thin and creamy. Good retention. Minimal lacing,
S- Banana, clove, toast, a bit of dark bread.
T- It's a buttered toast flavor up front. Banana and clove come in. Long finish that has a bit too much caramel and not enough banana/clove.
M- Body was slick at first, but it's overcarbed leaving an unpleasant feel.
O- I like to see breweries take a shot at dunkels. This one is merely ok.

Pours a muddy light brownish mixed with copper. The half finger of head dissipates quickly, but leaves some sticky lace on the glass. The nose is troublingly reminiscent of burnt hair. The flavor is certainly better than the taste as this offering has three distinct tastes that follow one another. First, there is a dry character present. Second, a touch of sweetness comes on in the middle. Finally, this offering has a tart finish that is not totally pleasing to the palate.

The beer is a murky, copper color with a thick, eggshell colored foamy head. The aroma is dominated by clove and banana with some pineapple and toffee in the background. It tastes kind of metallic, other than that you get the fruity banana and clove spice with lots of wheat. It's medium bodied with lots of carbonation. Overall this beer is pretty average, I think they could have done better.

A - Molasses body, slightly hazy with low carbonation. Little to no head, just a white ring with some blotchy retention. Little to no lacing. The color is the only thing it's got going for it.

S- Sharp unripe fruit, banana

T- Follows the nose, slightly more complex though. Wheaty upfront, finishes with notes of banana and citrus. Rich

M- Medium-high carbonation, medium body. Crisp

Overall a unique, refreshing brew. Worth a try

Pretty light for the style... it is more of an bernsteinfarben than a dunkel... pretty light in flavor as well.. there needs to be a lot more malt in this baby. Sam Adams usually makes some pretty outstanding brews, but this one falls a bit short.

A: Slightly hazy and a bit hazy, bits of lacing.. no head retention.

S: Nice roasted barley aroma with sweet malted wheat. Clove, nutmeg, and a bit smokey. Light Noble hops nose.

T: A bit light for my palate. I would like to chew this a bit more before I swallow. Carawheat, Carafa malts meld very well. Hallertau Mittelfrueh Noble hops. W-68 ale yeast strain. I would like more nuttiness flavors and a bigger malty and wheat flavor profile. After all its a dunkel, mo fo! Drink this one slowly it gets tastier as it warms, but also a bit more bitter all the hop character warms.

M: Pretty light, but not bad.

O: Sam Adams is always my go to when I go to places with slim pickings on the beer menu and you cannot go wrong. They a great company that helped rekindle America's micro-brew Renaissance. Try one on!

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

Light brown, very clear with a creamy, foamy 1/4" tan head. Leaves thick lacing.

The scent is primarily sweet dried banana chips with some bubble gum and wheaty malt. Just a little clove.

Bready malt and a hint of chocolate up front on the taste with nice grainy wheat and sweet ripe bananas. Ends with a nice banana pudding note, like homemade banana pudding with vanilla wafers. Moderately sweet but balanced. Nice.

Medium bodied and smooth, comes on lush and malty and ends a little drier. Compliments the flavors well.

I am a dunkelweizen fan, and you might call this one a little non-traditional but it's nice. Well balanced with interesting taste notes. It has character. A solid Sam offering.

Poured from bottle into Sam Adam’s perfect pint glass

Appearance – Pours a copper-amber color with a huge off white billowy head. The head has a decent retention, but eventually fades to leave a nice level of lacing.

Smell – The aroma is malty and a good deal of roasty and biscuit aromas mixed within. There is a light sweetness of light fruit with notes of apple, banana and pear as well as hints of some darker fruits mixed within.

Taste – The taste begins on the lighter side in terms of sweetness with a good base of a bready and biscuit nature. A nice roasted flavor soon comes to the tongue. With it, a lighter fruit flavor of banana and pear come to the taste. The sweeter and bready flavors mingle about a bit and then meld quite well at the end as some more roasted and an even heavier banana and apple fruit flavors come to the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average to above average side in terms of smoothness and thickness with a carbonation level that is very average as well. It is quite drinkable, but yet soothing on the tongue. It is quite nice for the style.

Overall – An easy drinking, tasty brew with a good balance between roast, malt, and sweet.

Thin head on a hazy amber with slight golden hues body. Sweet aroma of caramel malts, spices and breads. Flavor is semi sweet with mostly caramel malts, hints of lemon, spices, a little mill chocolate. Light to medium body and high carbonation. The flavor in the end is mostly sweet, not very dynamic or memorable. Still drinkable usually.

Appearance: The head was okay, with just minimal sticking. The color was a deep mahogany and dark malt.
Smell: Mostly brown bread and malt.
Taste: A little wheat spice and malt. Very clean with mild fruitiness. Fairly neutral in yeast and hops. Not much in banana or cloves, as would be expected with a dunkelweizen.
Mouthfeel: Crisp and slightly dry.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle in to a pint glass

A- Pours a dingy orange color with a quarter inch, off-white head that vanishes almost immediately. No carbonation bubbles to speak of

S- I've never had a Dunkelweizen, but I can compare the smell to a very average Hefeweizen: soft fruit notes on the nose, mostly banana and raisin.

T- A pleasant surprise.. Darker fruits cover the palette to start, with a slight nip from carbonation/alcohol/sour fruits towards the end.

M- I like the feel on this one. Thicker than the previous two Sam Adams brews I just reviewed, starting creamy and smooth, and finishing with more bite.

O- This beer is up my alley, and I'd be happy to have another. It's my first of the style, and I don't assume it's a perfect representation. I plan on having more similar brews.

Samuel Adams Dunkelweizen has a very thick, roiling, beige head, and a somewhat hazy, brown appearance, with lots of little streaming bubbles and a decent amount of lacing left behind. The aroma is of a coriander and banana whiff, brown bread, and spice. Taste is of sweet, brown bread, light molasses, coriander, a touch of bitterness, and a water back taste. The mouthfeel is high medium, and Samuel Adams Dunkelweizen finishes clean, semi-dry, and highly drinkable. Overall, this is very good, and I recommend checking it out.

Poured into a goblet. Dirty copper color with a thin head.
It smells like it wants to be a dunkel but it just needs some more practice. Wet hay and cherry smell.
Watery taste, an attempt at the malty sweetness and a short finish.
Descent texture. Smooth and fluffy with moderate carbonation.
An okay beer, not a good dunkel.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into a Weiss flute. Served chilled...

A) This a light brown brew. There was about 2 fingers worth of creamy head. Good retention and above average lacing.

S) The wheat and yeast were the first notable scent. Then the expected banana and spices followed. There is some light chocolate and dark fruit on the nose too. The only minor drawback was just a little bit of an artificial aroma as this one settled.

T) Nice wheat and darker malt flavors,pleasantly bready with a little caramel. The yeast is notable along with light clove and some nutmeg. There's a banana chocolate chip muffin thing going on here. This has a lot of flavors going on, and still manages a nice clean finish.

M) Medium body + moderate carbonation. Fairly crisp, and very clean from an aftertaste standpoint. This one goes down easy.

O) A solid option in the 2012 fall variety pack. I think I would buy a six pack of this offering. Quite good... Glad to recommend...

A: mahogany to dark brown. one finger fizzy light tan head which dissipates quickly leaving a slight layer of head on top. the beer is hazy and opaque with good carbonation.

S: Giving off some nice banana and clove flavors. Slight twang, metallic,caramel, bready, raisin, plum , spices, like cinnamon and nutmeg are also present. really nice

T: raisin, banana, clove and bread. tastes a lot like breakfast bread. fruitiness with a thick chewy bready malt backbone. there is some bubblegum too. there is a slight tartness from the yeast which is to style

M: thick, chewy mouthfeel, fizzy and carbonated. drinkable

O: not my favorite style, this one is a little too dark fruity and sweet for me. not bad to style though

A- Dark caramel/toffee color. Thin head that dispersed rather quickly. Looks like my kind of beer.

S- Significant bubblegum smell that admittedly, I didn't pick up on until I read about others experiences. I suppose that's the clove. After that some wheat-like smell. Not really enjoying the smell once I picked up on the similarities to bubblegum. This is my first weizen, so I'm not sure if that's expected or not.

T- Like a wheaty Boston Lager with something sweet tacked on. Maybe it's a fruity taste, but I can't quite pinpoint it. It's more of an artificial tasting sweet than anything I can name.

M- Very smooth, very easy to drink. Carbonation seems moderate at most.

O- One of the better Samuel Adams I've had. It loses points on the smell but it's very enjoyable otherwise.

A- Dark amber body with some golden highlights around the edges. Head is a beige color and looks thin and creamy.

S- Spices come on right away, but caramel malt and grains are the most noticeable. In the back are notes of citrus, wheat and earthy spices.

T- Has a strong caramel malt taste along with a very bready taste. Almost tastes like a Boston lager mixed with wheat and a hint of a doppelbock. Finishes with a wheat and citrus taste.

M- Medium bodied and medium carbonation. Has a very creamy and smooth feel.

O- Impressive offering. A lot of flavors are mingled together, but it works well.

S: Quite yeasty/bready with some toffee malts.

M: Got a bit of a chew, pretty decent.

O: One of the better options from sam, its nothing mind blowing but a well executed malt forward beer. Reccomended.
