This was the 2nd best of the collection but that isn't saying much. Malty overload with most everything about this beer average although the taste was a bit too sour and knocked it down a notch. I won' t be drinking it again unless it's free. The honey ginger was the only brew in this collection I'd buy again. They should have sold this package in 4 oz vials rather than 12oz bottles.

Had yhis back in October of 2006:
Appearance: Medium head with some staying power. Opaque, medium brown appearance.
Taste: Clean and light taste, mildly hopped flavor. Dry aftertast.
Comments: Excellent beer. Very light taste, but clean and refreshing. Less hoppy than most wheat beers. Hint of caramel in the aroma.

I don't know what to make of this one. Its not like any dunkel or wheat beer I've had. Pours dark brown with some haze and a rocky off-white head. Aroma is heavy with rye and roasted grain. Initial taste of wheat turns into toasted rye bread. The smoke shows up in the finish, but not in an overwhelming way. I enjoyed it, but I can see it is not for everyone.

A Coca Cola color with hints of orange and reddish hues. The seems to be little bits of yeast through out the beer. There is a small off white/slightly tan head in the glass.
Nose: A nice wheat and toasted malt with, nuttiness. There seems to be hints of citrus, herbal, and esters.
Taste: A nice wheat/toasted malt with a nuttiness and some molasses. There are notes of citrus, herbal, and esters.
Overall: This is a descent beer and it is very easy to drink. This was one of my first few beer that I tried way back a long time ago I had this beer stacked in my notes and now I can put it down in my profile.

My second favorite of the Brew Pat. Collection that me and a friend split. All of these brews had sedement in them so they poured pretty cloudy, not too much head on this one but it had decent lacing. Malty smell and taste. I would probably drink this one again

Taken from my old notes.
Pours a hazy brown with little head.
Smell is roasted malt with some caramel, possibly even coffee.
Taste is not overly sweet from the malt and caramel as it does have some hop balance, good carbonation with a dry finish.
Probably the best of this Patriot Collection.

Pours a cloudy dark amber with minimal head and good lacing. Malt slightly on the nose. Taste is thicker, but does not stick around long. You get tones of sweet malts, but they do not linger at all. Smooth on the mouth with a slightly bubbly edge to it. I am editing my scores now as I continue trying to drink this one. I think this one might get dumped too. Might be worth trying once, but not worth going back to.

This pours a decent head that doesn't last all that long, but leaves a pretty nice lace. This is a very cloudy brown; a traditional unfiltered haze.
The nose is sublte, but very nice. A bready, rich smell with a little tang. Very nice.
This isn't anything special on the tongue. Not particularly silky, but it has a nice lively carbonation.
This is much lighter in flavor than i expected. The dark cloudy color made me anticipate a darker flabor, but that isn't the case here. Pleasing typical wheat beer flavor. Nice but really nothing special.
i did enjoy drinking this, but the light flavor belied the alcohol contnet which seemd to me a little higher than average. Good beer, but way harder to come by than it's worth.

Moving on to the third part of this, the Brewer Patriot Invitational, is James Madison Dark Wheat Ale. Served at room temperature like the other beers so far in this invite, and poured into a weizen glass, on to the beer:
The beer takes on a hazy caramel color, topped by a large head. Fruity undertones in the aroma, with touches of brown sugar sweetness. In the taste, the smokiness from the smoked grains is subtle, and help create a overall harmony of flavor. Candied apples, wood chips, and some caramel. As with other wheat beers, it's an easy drinker and doesn't get boring.
Here's a beer I would like to see on the SA production line again. It has a nice mellow flavor which you can toss back a few of. I'm sad to see my glass approaching empty as i type this. I guess I'll have to hope the Root Beer Brew, the final recipe of the Brewer Patriot Invite, is just as good. Oh, about that, it'll be a matinée tasting tomorrow.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle to a hefe style glass, The liquid is a cloudy light brown with ok carbonation. The head is ok two fingers off white that leaves little lace.
The smell is week and mildly yeasty, some faint fruit notes,
The taste follows not must to note. A yeasty caramel flavor.
The mouthfeel is light and watery. Not much body at all. Carbonation is ok.
The drinkability is ok. Not a great brew but interesting and worth a try. MK
