Pulled this dead soldier out of the corner of my beer fridge. Sorry, fella....was part of variety pack and was put off by coffee label, but this sucker is GOOD! Pours deep dark brown with rich creamy beige head and lots of thick lacing. Aroma of coffee and hops is very pleasant. Taste is smooth and rich - hints of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malt. This is definitely a winter brew, but on this night I'm watching Stanley Cup hockey with a wicked thunderstorm outside....so it's pretty damn fine for the occasion. Will buy this one again and GO ISLANDERS!

A nice beer that lives up to the coffee label. There is just about the right amount of bitterness along with thick, luxurious, coffee-beany flavor. 2018/02/19

The sweet caramel, coffee under tones give this a very different lager taste. This adds to the crispness and keeps it interesting. One of the more interesting brews from Sam Adams, they keep coming out with little surprises like this and it is nice.

8/4/18...some brown below but more black. Fluffed but patchy off white foam. Coffee grit nose but soft. thin open, switches to a darker malt with hints of coffee. Fades fast and doesn't hold. Lager like ending. Low voltage. Coffee is not used effectively.

'Tis the occasion of New Samuel Adams Beer Sunday, It's Gonna Be a Long Trail (Week 706) & now it is time for some coffee! I have been reading a LOT of beer books this summer & Jim Koch is mentioned prominently in the history of the past 30 years or so. He not only managed to get under the skin of August Busch III, but also Charlie Papazian & Philip Van Munching of Heineken. Tony Forder of "Ale Street News" proclaimed me as "The Beer Pest" during Mondial de la Biere in 2002, but I have only ever really pissed off John Frantz (formerly) of LNCBC who told somebody who suggested that he fire me, "Yeah, but in order to do so, I'd have to hire him first!" & Dick Cantwell, who grossly misunderstood my hero worship. 8=( Jim Koch, I salute you!

The label seems to indicate that this will awaken a hibernating bear from his slumber, but as a retired salty Navy sailor, I reserve the right to be judgmental as our coffee could be substituted for jet fuel. Once, we even put black powder in with the grounds as the water filtered through. It was like being on speed! We Field Dayed gun Mount 52 from top to bottom, fore to aft & port to starboard so that it gleamed. We then attacked the passageway & had it shipshape & Bristol-fashion. Never again!
I Pop!ped the cap & began a C-line pour that allowed the glass' stippling to unleash massive nucleation & soon I had two-plus fingers of dense, rocky, foamy, deep-tan/light-brown head with decent retention that left moderate lacing in its wake. Color was Dark Brown to Very Dark Brown (SRM = > 27, < 34) with NE-quality clarity & mahogany highlights. 8=O Nose had a definite roastiness, but was it coffee or chocolate? I just could not quite default to coffee. Hmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was unequivocally coffee! No chocolate, just coffee. It was not overly bitter, but it was definitely black coffee. Finish was roasty, dry, bordering on semi-dry, with a lingering coffee flavor. Now, back to the revamped Style Guide - Another winner, based on reviewing/rating to style! Again, no cocoa or licorice, but lots of coffee.

Picked this up as part of a seasonal 12-pack for $14.99 at TW Arrowhead in March. Best by May 2018.
Beer poured cola brown with a smallish tan head that has some decent hang time.
Nose is coffee forward with a light touch of cocoa.
Taste is coffee and cocoa over a light roasted malt body. Finish is a touch sweet but not cloyingly so.
Mouthfeel is light bodied and smooth but a tab bit thin.
Overall this is a really nice brew, glad i got to try it. Definitely enjoyable on another 106 degree day.

Very dark brown color with red highlights and a beige thick head with good retention and leaving lots of laces.
Aroma with notes of chocolate, coffee, grains amd mild caramel.
Flavor with notes of roasted coffee beans, creamy and dark chocolate, cinnamon, cola and noble hops. Dry aftertaste with a low to medium bitterness.
Medium body with appropriate carbonation.
Coffee addition was just enough to be able to clearly sense it, but still conserving the nature of a Schwarzbier.
