Molasses is the secret to this Lager, and creates a pleasant sweetness with hints of caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, and maple syrup. The pale and caramel malts merge with Hersbrucker and Saaz hops to create a delightfully toasted flavor in this bock.

Samuel Adams Toasted Caramel Bock, 5.8%
12oz bottle from sampler pack, poured into glass, December 2016
L: Totally opaque dark brown, aside from bubbles on the side. Thick light brown head with great retention.
S: Hard to pick up on smell. caramel malts are there. I'm getting a metallic - iron smell and yet the beer is not very old.
T: Much easier to find than the nose. Dark molasses, caramel, toasted malt. Lingering nutty taste.
F: Medium, dark but refreshing. Like all these Sam Adam pack beers, they are not going high on the ABV, which I think is a mistake.
O: Pretty good. Nice complex dark taste to mix it up.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip. Pours dark red orange with a decent size off white head. Smells of dark roasted grain with slight candy. Tastes of dark grain with some sweet candy notes. Beer is light/medium bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, an above average beer.

A delicious mix of caramel and brown sugar . The description says it has molasses in it....whatever it is it makes for a very good end product..try it at least once.

This is another teaser from Sam Adams as you can only get it in a variety 12 pack with other selections. I love this concoction with sweet notes of molasses ,caramel, brown sugar, vanilla and maple syrup. Hoppy/bitter lovers won't necessarily like this.

Appearance: Deep, dark brown with a decent head of light tan suds and a little lace.
Aroma: Sweet malts here for sure, overwhelmingly caramel and toffee. Points on for recreating the flavor profile promised.
Taste: Sweet, with the aforementioned caramel and toffee, as well as brown sugar and maple syrup. Tough to get down here, unfortunately.

11/26...pours chocolately brown, dark, with tan head of foam that settles to a thin layer. Sweet malty nose, hints of vanilla. Sweet maple syrup bounded by brown sugar, vanilla, and caramel maltiness. Very light bite attempts to close it, but still ends up cloying. A miss.

Part of a Fall Sampler 12-pack. 2 bottles of 6 different beers. Poured in to a flute.
Pours a mahogany red color, clear, with a two-toned off-white with swirls of beige frothy head.
Smell is a sweet molasses and caramel candy aroma.
Taste is a sweet bread flavor up front. with dark fruit and sugar flavors, with a mildly bitter wet finish.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly cloying.
Overall a nice brew, appropriate as either a fall or winter seasonal.
