I picked up the Sam Adams Hefeweizen as part of a sampler sixer that I found on sale at the local grocer's for $5.99. Not a bad deal for Sammy brews, and a sampler pack to boot! I was pleasantly surprised by this bottle of the hefe.

It poured well, with a generous head of tight, compact foam. Nice appearance, straw colored and hazy.

The nose was weak on this sample. I got some faint citrus out of the smell, but not much else.

The taste was actually quite nice. Bready wheat malts, a crisp little citrus bite, very clean and refreshing. Not complex at all, but it's not meant to be. Good hop presence offsetting the grain.

Good mouthfeel with healthy carbonation level. Smooth and drinkable. Another one would go down quite nicely.

Not a bad attempt at a hefeweizen at all. This would make a fine summer beer to pair up with some seafood or pork. It's not outstanding by any means, but it's certainly not a dud, either. I'd pick this one up again.
