12 oz. bottle from the Summer Styles pack poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass. "Best by" date of August.

Appearance: Hey, this looks much better than its light lager competition. The body is sort of light golden amber with a solid one finger head of a foamy consistency and with steady carbonation bubbles rising. The head, unfortunately, fades away pretty quickly and leaves next to no lacing. Still a pretty nice looking beer though. Props for having the appearance of something other than carbonated urine in a glass.

Smell: Rather than smelling adjuncts out front, my nose was greeted by some fresh grains, followed by just the slightest hint of spicy and floral Noble hops. There is a little bit of a metallic funk lingering behind all of this, but this is a good change from what you would expect from a light lager. Think of a scaled-back Boston Lager, and that's about what this beer smells like. Sort of understated on the nose, but that's to be expected, I think.

Taste: The front of the tongue is hit grainy sweetness from the malt and some subtle bread flavors, which stay fairly constant throughout the drinking session. In the finish, there's a noticeable (but not assertive) dash of Noble hops and some spicy bitterness. This blends with an undesirable but quickly fading metallic taste, and maybe some caramel in there. I also thought I picked up green apples? Not a bad beer at all. Refreshing and crisp on the palate, and probably the best light beer you'll ever drink. Take that for what it is.

Mouthfeel: As expected, this beer has a very light body and goes down very smoothly. It is a little overcarbonated and watery for my taste but leaves a pleasant crisp dryness in its wake. Very little flavor in the finish, as expected from a light beer.

Overall: Not something I would drink on a regular basis, but this was indeed a bold move by Boston Beer Company, and this is actually a good beer. Want to take some craft beer to a cookout and not get hassled by your BMC drinking friends? Get this. They might even enjoy it. This is a good summer beer if nothing else.
