Starts with big smooth white head of micro-bubbles. Lot of early carbonation after pour, should have used pilsner glass. Head settles down, leaving nice lace. Aroma light, clean. Taste is very well balanced. Should appeal to even the Budfan. No one thing jumps out. Would make good session beer. Jim Koch should keep this available thru Labor Day.

A: Hazy orange in color with a small white head. The beer has decent head retention and lacing.
S: Smells of lemon zest, orange peel, biscuits, honey, and a light piney hops. It also has a similar smell I get in Boston Lager.
T: Tastes similar to boston lager. Bready malt with citrus notes orange and lemon that finishes with mildly bitter piney hops. Pine is more apparent in the aftertaste.
M: Medium bodied, medium carbonation, refreshing, and easy drinking.
O: Overall it's a decent sessionable beer. I wouldn't seek it out myself but I'd order it at any local or franchise bar.

Cleaning out the SA notes, nice light straw appearance with tons of champagne like carbonation and head formation. Aroma was neutral.
Taste, a little dry, mildly bitter, lemon at times, reminiscient of SN's summerfest but with even less hop character. Probably noble/tettenang. Always a light body, the mineral water sweetness isn't really for me. But nothing is really hit or miss here. Its just another beer that may or may not come back again, if it does, its pretty comparable to the new branded Alpine Spring.

A: Hazy orange color with a thin off white head. Some faint lacing.
S: Wheat, hints of banana, orange, lemon and a bit of lime.
T: Wheaty orange flavor with hints of spice and banana. A bit too mild for my taste. Nothing about this beer excited me.

Old review, originally sampled 7/19/2004. Golden, light-bodied and topped with a medium white head and a little bit of lacing. Fruity aroma and flavor with only a little bit of hops to it. I was a little disappointed but it's plenty refreshing to get the job done.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into an imperial pint glass.
Since this beer is retired, I was very surprised to find this bottle mixed among a bunch of other singles on the bottom shelf of a cooler in a tiny local liquor store.
A: The beer is a medium gold with an orange tint, has a short white head that fades quickly and doesnt leave much lace on the glass
S: The aroma is of caramel, honey, spice and hops.
T: The taste is very sweet with flavors of honey and spice. You can taste a decent, but not strong hops background.
M: Crisp and smooth with a light-to-medium body, light carbonation with a clean finish. Most beers that have the type of sweetness that this one does, will leave some stickiness behind but Im not feeling that here.
D: Its light and goes down very easy. Like many other Sam Adams beers, its one that I could go with for a while.
Given that this beer has been retired and replaced as the Sam Adams spring release by the White Ale, I can help but compare the two, even though they are from completely different styles. While this is a decent beer, I prefer the White Ale.

Samuel Adams Spring Ale pours to a deep golden hue with just a touch of amber. It also offers a large, healthy head that remains intact as I slowly drain my glass. The aroma is of a sweet, malty sort. After a second sniff, I can detect a hint of spicy hops and a slight earthy smell. The magic of Samuel Adams Spring Ale is in the taste, however. When this exquisite brew flows through your lips the initial flavor, like the smell, is earthy and reminiscent of peat. A delicate, fruity taste then presents itself and coats your mouth with a unique tart sweetness. As you swallow this tasty ale, you will notice a slight bitterness on the back of your tongue as a result of the hops. The overall finish is exceptionally clean; one of the many positive aspects of this outstanding beer.
