Appearance: Deep dark black with a fluffy, nougaty, long-lasting, sticky cappuccino foamy head. Resilient and dense.
Smell: Rich chocolate truffles, cocoa powder, KitKat bars, chocolate milk, caramel, rummy raisins, fruity hops... stupendous! An aroma you can really get lost in.
Taste: Dark, bitter chocolate throughout with a breathtakingly bitter cocoa Cascades cordial finish. Light fruity notes, with a touch of citric zest to accentuate the chocolate. Solid and intense. A chocolate stout for stout lovers.
Mouthfeel: A touch thin, surprisingly clean in the finish. Smooth and chewable, and sticky on the lips and palate.
Drinkability: Hell yes. Lord knows why I don't buy this beer more often.

Gorgeous pour, fantastic smell, but the first sip didn't blow me away. The next sip was much better. Then the next. And the next. By the end of the glass I wish I had bought about twenty of them. Sensational!! I will look for this again! And again and....

I purchased this beer in Newport, OR at the Rogue Brewery. They were having a "garage sale" for Columbus Day, and were selling this for 22 bucks a case, so I couldn't resist. I spoke to the guy offering tastes and he explained that it's actually Rogue's Chocolate Stout made with milk chocolate, so it's a little bit sweeter, and then branded as Chocolate Bear Beer. Well, once I saw the bottle I was completely sold and had to buy some. As far as most of the categories, it's completely the same as Rogue's Chocolate Stout, except that (surprise) it's a little bit sweeter. But don't worry, it still has that Rogue bitterness that we all love.

Nice brownish head on a great black color body. The smell is fruitier than I expected, mostly red fruits. A sweet cocoa powder aroma also, that reminded me of my breakfasts when I was young(er). Taste is great. A veil of sweet citrus at first, with some notes of red fruits, and mostly an amazing chocolate flavor. The smell made me expect some milk chocolate, but the taste is all about dark chocolate, which I appreciate. Mouthfeel is floury at times, and definitely chewy with a persistent dark chocolate bitterness, but fortunately doesn't get too thick. So drinkable. A very good beer...

This beer drops like black mud into the glass and holds a medium brown, slightly creamy head for the duration of the drinking. Thick lacing.
The smell is a big on high cacao content chocolate as well as a another cookie/chocolate flavor that reminds of the melted chocolate from freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies. Something of hops in the background.
Taste is predominately baking chocolate, with a medium to heavy body and a strong bitter hop finish. I expected a stronger chocolate taste from the smell--and was relieved to find it not to be overwhelming. Lively mouthfeel that kicks this wonderful sludge down the throat.
For those who love dark chocolate--this one is spectacular.
