once upon a time there was a young brew master who fell in love with a ginger haired maiden. he loved her fiery locks, quick wit and samurai sharp personality. he proposed marriage and crafted a beer for her, an original red ale brewed with refreshing fresh ginger and a touch of hoppiness that typified her personality. when she took her first sip at their wedding she knew she had made the right choice. try tyler’s ginga ninja red ipa brewed with 6 lbs of fresh ginger in every batch and hopped with centennial, cascade & bravo hops. if not at your wedding then on a hot afternoon as you wait on your pig to finish roasting, or while chompin on a crisp apple and a creamy wheel of camembert.

A: Pours a dark amber with a slight deep copper tone. Leaves one finger of off white
head. Retention is not so good and the lacing is thin with a watery look to it.

S: Ginger. Spicy. Hops. Floral. A little sweet honey. More ginger.

T/M: Spicy. Ginger and hops mix together nicely to create a distinct taste. Bitter. More
ginger and spices. Creamy and medium bodied. The aftertaste is a little on the dry side.

O: Very good. Interesting and distinct. A nice departure from the influx of citrus bomb
IPA's.

Cheers!!

The Art on the can is cool. Beer has a Burnt orange color, pleasant smell, smooth taste with a nice hint of ginger. Very little burn on the tongue. Pleasant aftertaste. Overall, in my opinion, it’s a very enjoyable and well crafted beer.

Aside from a faint whiff of it, the ginger is lacking.

Poured into a small chalice: color is murky dark copper, head is light tan with frothy head, fine to small bubbles, good lacing on the glass.

Smell is light ginger, some toasted malt, light caramel, all a bit subdued.

Taste is light ginger, toasty and caramel malt, more presence and sweetness, then drying from the ginger and hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel is moderately carbonated, softer middle, then drying ginger and bitterness that lingers on the tongue.

Overall a somewhat muddled beer in terms of its aroma and flavor mix with the malt - hop - ginger interplay of flavors. The ginger flavor is not overdone but does not seem to enhance this beer beyond the base malt/hop balance.

Black Hog Brewing "Ginga' Ninja"
12 fl. oz. can with illegible black ink-jet coding
$2 @ Giant, Havertown, PA

Look: Cloudy deep amber body beneath a creamy head of yellowed off-white foam. Very good head retention and lacing.
Smell: Caramelish and toasty malt, ginger, resinous and citrusy hops.
Taste: The flavor follows with aroma with a nice balance between the different components. The ginger isn't too bold, nor is it overshadowed by hops, and the malt creates a display board for both. A stiff bitterness balances it along with some spiciness from the ginger and it finishes dry and spicy with some citrusy hops and a light touch of malt remaining.
Feel: Medium bodied with a crisp carbonation that warms in the mouth to become smooth and soft.
Overall: An interesting and well balanced IPA that's worth trying for anyone who enjoys a little bit of ginger.
