Sept. 2008: 330 ml bottle, simply called Brunehaut Ambrée, Bière Biologique (Organic Beer), courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.5%. Hazy amber to brown coloured beer, with a fluffy off-white head. Pours very fizzy. Nice aroma of spices, yeast and oak. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour is moderately spicy and slightly fruity, with very moderate hops. The alcohol is well hidden. Not too bad.

Color- cloudy, silty light walnut amber. Huge frothy head.
Aroma- beautiful, inviting aroma of golden plum, spicy hops, and rhubarb pie.
Taste- a great amber brew. Starts with a mix of mildly spicy hops, vague notes of honey, and background hints of fruit. The fine carbonation dances on the tongue lightening the overall body of this brew. It finishes gentle with a mellow mild toasty maltiness leaving a pleasant mild sweet dryness like the rind of a honeydew melon.
Tasted on 12-30-13. Purchased in Dallas, Texas. Poured from 330 ml bottle into a Liefmans Goudenband glass (my preferred all purpose beer tasting glass).
Please note that the label on BA is out of date. The new label is completely different.

Poured from a brown 11.2 oz. bottle. Despite a careful pour, beer came gushing out of the bottle and created a temporary foamy mess. Has a light amber color. Smell was mild, a bit of malts, some fruitiness. Taste is malty, light hops, a touch of fruit, a bit mild and subdued. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, while not a bad beer, seemed to lack any punch, mediocre.

From 11.2 oz Bottle...different label and it says Amber Ale, not Tradition Ambree.
Poured into EKU tulip glass.
Gold apricot color with small head with little island designs.
Aroma of caramel and root beer candy.
Significant carbonation and modest mouthfeel.
Flavors of light citrus, amber malts, very light candy cane, rosemary, cola, powder sugar, black pepper. Overall refreshing with some complexity, but the body of a Belgian session beer. One of the few decent gluten-free beers.

(courtesy from Loic Tyberghein) 330ml bottle. Tulip glass. Enjoyed on mar´13. Pale amber color, veiled appearance. Off-white to yellowish froth, close crown shows fairly good retention & leaves lacing on sides. Caramel malt, Belgian yeast, candy & ripe fruit aromas, hints of molasses & spices. Sweet mild toasted malt upfront with herbal bitter touch. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Oily to watery texture. Spices & sweet ripe citric fruit in the middle. Gentle dry bitter finish.

A - dark amber; thick brown head; good retention
S - caramel and baked apples.
T - spicy, caramel, apples
M - very crisp, smooth, medium bodied
This is an easily drinkable beer, but it doesn't have a great flavor profile. It's simple and refreshing which was fine for me on this hot spring day.

I picked up a bottle of Brunehaut Traditional Amber last week for $3.79 at The Lager Mill. I bought this one without really looking at it, I just figured it was some type of Abbey ale, but the guy at the store told me it was gluten free and the bottle says it's an amber, so I don't know what to think of this beer so lets see how it goes. It had a bottling date of August 2011. Poured from a brown euro 11.2oz bottle into an imperial pint glass.
A- The label looks ok, but it isn't that eye catching. It poured a slightly golden amber color that was pretty clear and it had a finger and a half worth of white head that died down to a thick layer that stayed till the end and left some nice rings of lacing. It looks ok, but it's nothing special.
S- Not a lot going on here. It starts of with a faint malty and grainy aroma then comes a slightly sweet and fruit cider aroma. I didn't pick up any hops but I did get a slight sour aroma. The aroma isn't to impressive and the sour aroma seems a little off.
T- The taste seems to be even more underwhelming then the aroma. It starts off with a really light amount of caramel malts that taste very watered down. Next comes some slightly sour and sweet fruity cider taste that also seems watered down, no hops to be found here. This is one bland tasting beer, what little flavor that was there wasn't that good.
M- Slightly crisp, on the light side of being medium bodied, and it had a very high amount of carbonation, it was super bubbly and prickly. The body was alright, but the carbonation was way out of hand and really hurt this beer.
Overall I was not a fan of this beer and I thought it was a pretty bad attempt at an Amber Ale, this has to be one of the worst Amber Ale that I have had. It went down somewhat smooth, but with hardly any flavor and lots of carbonation I had a hard time getting though the bottle. What I liked most about this beer was the look, it was the only thing about this beer that was true to style. What I liked least about this beer was the lack of flavor and the high carbonation, the combination of the two made for a pretty bad beer. I for sure won't buy this beer again and for $3.79 I would say this beer is a rip off, I don't recommend this to anyone, save your money for something that actually has some flavor. I was very disappointed with this beer and it made for a pretty bad first impression for this brewery, I don't think I will be trying more of their beers anytime soon. This was a poorly made amber that for sure wasn't worth the price, I still don't know if it is gluten free but judging by the taste I wouldn't rule it out, steer clear of this beer.

(Served in a tulip glass
bottle says "Brunehaut Bio Amber"
June 11 stamped on side, but doesn't indicate what that means.
A- There is a hazy almost murky caramel brown body with a creamy beige head that is thick and last a good bit. There are lots of strands of microbubbles pushing to the surface. This beer was a slow motion gusher when opened.
S- The cidery fruity notes during the pour give way to some raw grain aromas and a fresh cream hint. There is a soft tart sauerkraut hint that grows just a bit in the finish.
T- The flat taste of cider has a hint of cardboard and a faint cider tartness that fades to a clean finish. There is a touch of spice in the finish that may be hops or old spices but it is to soft to distinguish.
M- The medium mouthfeel has a soft fizz scrubbing finish, and no alcohol heat.
O- This beer has a bit of a flat taste with a big fizz and not much else there. The malt and hops were mostly missing even when very warm and some of the fizz has dissipated.

08 notched out on the label. Not sure if that is the bottling date, or the best by date?
Pours a hazy copper brown color. Lots of bubbles rise up to a off-white rocky head that falls to a patch and ring that leaves spots of lacing.
Smells like puffed wheat cereal, pecans, almonds, pancakes with syrup, and musty apples. Malty!
Instead of the sweet malts that my nose detects, I taste slightly tart pears, and apples along with almonds.
The mouthfeel is thin and watery, with too much carbonation.
Nothing bad, just not something Id want much of.

Sometimes nice to enter the obscured world of small breweries, smelling and tasting something that's great, and feeling privileged you're one of the few enjoying it.
This beer is, orange-red colour, slightly hazy, nice fluffy head, good lacing , great carbonation, is such a beer: smell and taste are excellent, imo... : fruit sweetness, slightly tart too. Fresh red and dark fruits (berries 'n cherries, raisins 'n figs). Typical belgian yeast and malty sweet aftertaste. Medium body, smooth and easy drinkable alcohol.
All in all, very interesting to try this. Recommended.

Review from BeerAdvocate magazine Vol. II Issue X:
The dark one of the bunch, the yeast left in the bottle shows off the clean golden-amber color. A pretty remarkable head formation here, tall and rocky with a substantial amount of lace sticking to the glass. The aroma has a complex stride of mineral, overripe apples, light caramel and nutty yeast. Medium bodied with a long, drawn out smoothness. The toasted grain and husk drop a mild caramel, mineral or almost metallic tone and cracker-like flavor. Very quick breath of light alcohol in the middle with a ghost-like apple juice fruitiness. Mild on the hopping, though more than enough bitterness to balance this tame brew. Finishes semidry with a smattering of toasted husk on the palate.
Good overall, but in the grand scheme of Belgian beer in America, this has a tough road ahead, as it will be compared to some heavy hitters. On the flip side, if you are looking for what a typical rural Belgian Ale tastes like, then go for it.
