On tap at Laurelwood in PDX. Part of a taster tray.

A finger of offwhite head, copper-clear body. Lice lacing.

Faint, faint hops on the nose.

Nutty, vegetal hops with a piney finish.

Smooth, nice mouthfeel.

A nice accessible IPA, but not much else.

thanks ramnuts.

Darker than I expected. Looked a bit like Furious, which got me a bit excited.

Smells are wonderfully west coast IPA in character. cit.. pin... you know how it goes.

tastes are what I hoped for. Straightforward citrus and pine, enough malt to keep things rational. Some buttery notes in the malt, wonder if those wouldn't be there fresh off the tap line in Portland.

Mouthfeel keeps the streak going. No off flavors. Crisp and clean with some welcome resin.

I have a sense this would be insane fresh out of the brite tank and in my glass. ISO: flight to Portland.

Pours an orange-amber with a vanilla colored head. Aroma, wow, pops out of the glass with citrusy hoppiness. This is a big, bold IPA in the classic West Coast style, beer carries a subtle sweet malt tasting of honey that is massively overshadowed by massive hops. I'm not one who likes all big hops beers but this one is outstanding. Laurelwood has a big winner here, no surprise to me the other reviewers think the same.

Poured into a english pint glass, nice hazy copper color with a lovely aroma of citrus and piny hops.

First smell this beer gives off an awesome aroma of fresh hops, even though it is not a fresh hop beer. You can taste these same citrus and piny hops on your tongue. For an 80 IBU beer this has little or no hop after taste and is very drinakable.

Would recommend this beer to hop lovers and no hop lovers, however I think fellow hop heads would get more enjoyment out of it, worth a try!

On tap at the NW location. Thanks to ramnuts for the drive, and for lunch.

A: Pours a bronze-orange body with an inch of off-white creamy head. It retains very well and leaves thick register marks down the glass.

S: Lots and lots of citrus, in amazing varieties: grapefruit, orange rind, tangerine, and apricot. I also find lesser elements of pine needles and grass. I can barely smell some caramel malt.

T: As the nose suggests, this is heavily citrusy. It's a delight to pick out the individual fruit flavors and let them roll over the tongue. Orange is surprisingly strong, compared to the nose where grapefruit dominates. Tangerine and apricot in the mid-taste. The backend sees a development of pine. Caramel peeks through near the otherwise semi-dry finish, with a grassy and citrusy aftertaste.

M: Light-medium body. Lively carbonation. Quite a sticky flavor; it persists into the aftertaste, but it is not hugely bitter. Well-hidden ABV.

D: I love having this beer. It's all-around excellent.

On tap at the NW Kearney location. Served in an imperial pint glass, the beer appears vibrant and slightly cloudy. The color is dark honey and it's crowned with a one inch pillowy white head. Retention is great and some thick lacing is left clinging to my glass.

The aroma is all citrus: grapefruit, orange, lemon, and apricot all are here, but orange is most prominent. A swirl of the glass summons pine notes, but they're nearly dormant otherwise. The malt profile isn't huge, but it does exist, in a caramel and crackery rendition. No alcohol is noticeable.

The flavor is killer. It's bursting with orange, lemon, apricot, and grapefruit. The bitterness is at a nice medium level. I'm surprised this is 80 IBUs. It seems less bitter than that, but I can't complain as it's at a near perfect level. A little caramel malty sweetness mingles harmoniously with the superb hop profile, but it's definitely not balancing and the beer maintains a very enjoyable light body. The finish is dry with a touch of sweetness and lingering fresh citrus bitterness. The alcohol is completely hidden.

The beer is light - light medium bodied with a nice medium level of carbonation and a dry, sticky mouthfeel.

This is the best beer I've had from Laurelwood and I'm happy I revisited it on my trip to Portland this last weekend. This is a high quality and very quaffable, light bodied NW IPA. It's perfect for a warm Portland summer day. Highly recommended.

Had this on tap at the brewpub. And how.

Pint is served with a thin coat of off-white odd-sized bubbles on top of a copper body. Beer is somewhat hazy and the pint is opaque.

Aroma is like a lupalin covered boot kicking you in the nose. But in a good way. The aroma is an incredibly pleasant combination of citrus (mostly grapefruit) and pitch.

Taste is similarly hoppy with strong citrus and sweet but there's just enough malt sweetness to buttress the hop dump.

This beer is impressively drinkable a joy for a hop nut like myself.

Found this beer on-tap at the Public House, the winning beer in Laurelwood's "Dream IPA" contest. Listed at 68 IBU, 7.0% ABV.

A: A rich golden orange with a decent-sized (maybe 1 finger) frothy white head, which dissapated fairly quickly. Moderate lacing.

S: Tons of pine and citrus hop aroma - extremely fresh. Very little malt. Smell fades as head dies down.

T: A hophead's delight. Initially lots of resinous pine, zesty grapefruit, touches of grassy/earthy and sourdough maltiness. mellows to a sweeter malt-oriented backbone, but with plenty of bitterness in the finish. Seems very well-balanced.

M: Thick & creamy. Medium/full mouthfeel. Light carbonation.

D: A strong and hoppy brew, excellent on the hot summer Sunday afternoon when I tasted it. Again, hopheads should love this one - I enjoyed it alot but stopped at one, wanting something more malty. Give Workhorse a try while it's around - all summer let's hope.
