Poured from a bomber bottle into a large hefe glass, clear ruby color with a nice white head and good lacing.

Smells is sweet with cinnamon and grass

Taste is hops and caramel and maybe a bit of alcohol. Has a bitter aftertaste

Mouthfeel is lacking, very little feel in the carbonation (but not flat)

Overall it's good, but after one, it wouldn't be my first choice for a second beer.

On tap at Laurelwood in PDX. Part of a taster tray.

A finger white head, deep copper body. Some lacing.

Sweet malt and honey on the nose.

Big nutty malt flavor, leafy/grassy hop finish.

A bit foamy.

Decent red, almost a light nut-brown with more hops.

Cloudy golden colour with a small white head. Fair head retention. Not really red.

Grassy, earthy hops with some light malt notes.

Big grassy, crisp hoppy flavour. Tastes a lot like the pale ale with a nice big hop hit and light malt.

Medium light body with moderate carbonation. Fine.

A decent hoppy beer but lacking in the malt expected of an amber or red ale.

Poured into imperial pint glass...

A: Pours a bright ruby red/amber hue, nice frothy two finger head of creamy foam, great retention, really thick lacing.

S: Bright citrus hops, sweet malt hints of spruce in the hop aroma as well. Pretty straightforward.

T: Huge citrus/spruce hop flavor hits the palate upfront, gently followed by just the right amount of malt. Great example for the northwest, nice balance of hops and good malt backbone.

M: Crisp and clean, dry finish, solid.

D: Very drinkable overall, solid example of a red.

Got this from sdawson in a good trade.

Pours a rich amber with a nice fluffy white head that hangs around long enough for me to enjoy thoroughly.

Smells nice. Hoppy but not blast your face with a bazooka hoppy. A nice caramel bready aroma is in there in combination.

One of the few beers I've given a 5. Well worth it. Flavors flow seemlessly together. The hoppiness and the bready malty sweetness compliment each other perfectly. Each is in the right proportion to the other and neither is trying to be overpowering. Wow!

I like the carbonation level. Nice and bubbly without going overboard. A nice level of crispness in the finish with zero alcohol burn.

For the style, I think this is or should be the benchmark. Of the ambers I've had this one reminds me of a Metallica album. Kill 'Em All! It does that indeed.

Poured with great clarity in to a imperial nonic a rich bronze with a very well difined clingy one finger slightly off white head that never really ever fades.Aromas of caramel malt,a tinge of hard water, and leafy hop,not in your face but nice.A well rounded palate, toasty with caramel and some stone fruit up front, the hops are more herbal and leafy in the finish.A solid red here, decent hop presence and well toasted.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a bright, clear red with just under an inch of just off-white head that good retention and OK lacing.

A nice, crisp and bright hop aroma greets the nose, with enough malt in the background to provide a solid foundation. On the tongue those piney hops play nicely with the somewhat sweet but mostly grainy malts.

The body was a bit too thin for my tastes in this style. Drinkability was very good, I could easily sit with a few of these with a pizza. Overall, a very good, but not great, example of the style. Worth trying when you see it.

Poured a rich amber with around two fingers of slow receding creamy white head. Nice aroma of fruity hops and citrus. Very fresh taste with some surprising caramel sweetness and a nicely balanced hoppy finish. Light and very drinkable with a pleasant creaminess.

Serving type- 22 ounce bomber poured into a Ninkasi pint glass.

A- Pours a beautiful amber color with a decent carbonation activity anbd a small wite one finger white lace. A very nice looking red ale.

S- I am picking up a nice equal combination of piney hops and sweet malt. Trhe balance seems to be 50/50 on this one.

T- The first thing I taste is a smooth even taste that turns into a somewhat weak bitter hop flavor. This is interesting to me, I assume that a red ale is more malty and sweet; however this beer seems to be a pale ale trapped within a red ale body. I think that this is a very nice tasting red ale, primarily because I am a huge hop head. I was not expecting this type of flavor. I have heard that the Pac NW is all about hops but this seems to take it to another level. This is the knid of red ale I can get used to.

I received this beer from an unexpected package sent by madhombrewer. This was a retalitory tahnk you box and I am very thankful that I was able to try this. The more I drink Laurelwood beers the more I am impressed with what they are offering. This is the 3rd or 4th beer I have had that from them that has really impressed me.

bomber sent my way by genghis22 thanks James...poured into a pint glass..entered from notes

a-deep hazy amber color..three finger tan head that seemed to stay forever...lots of lacing and bubbles..

s-piny hops up front fall to a sweet caramel and toffee..slight bitterness in the nose

t-starts off slightly piny then the rich caramel and toffee from the nose step up...finishes on a nice crisp bitter hop note..

m-solid for the style...nice tight carbonation...a tad bit acrid on the tongue from the bitterness...

d-this is a easy drinking amber that i would have no problem putting away on some hot summer days

overall im not a big amber fan i find most of them boring but this one had a lot about it i liked..it was interesting and kept me coming back for more...glad i got to try this one..

22 oz bottle from Whole Foods Hollywood PDX served in Deschutes shaker pint glass, 3.16.2010.

Clear reddish amber body, no visible carbonation, generous finger and a half head, medium dissipation with significant lacing. Pronounced hop nose, citrusy and flowery, not spicy, balanced by caramel malts, nicely balanced. Smooth medium mouthfeel, not too effervescent. Super drinkable. Deranger's little brother, much more drinkable, a good session beer. Recommended.

On tap in a shaker pint.

See-thru lightish amber body. Just a half-finger of off-white head, but a nice coat of sticky lacing.

Lots of caramel malt and general sweet fruitiness in the nose. That's about it.

A little more lively in the mouth, with some roasted, toasted malt, a bit of nuttiness and a nice citrus undercurrent to provide some contrast to all that sweet caramel. A slightly odd medicinal aftertaste. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation and a very sweet, sticky finish.

Overall impression: OK, but too sweet for extended enjoyment.

Plenty of cascade hop flavour in this red ale. If you like Cascades, it's crazy drinkable, and doesn't seem like it's nearly this strong. There some nice caramel maltyness to back up hopping; bitterness seems remarkebly balanced for 60 IBU. Very well-crafted.

Chilled bomber into a glass. Courtesy of end 0))) / [BA member ramnuts]. Thanks buddy!

A: Pours a clear reddish-orange / copper body with half a finger of off-white head. Moderate retention (a few minutes) that recedes into a thin film on the glass. Leaves moderate lacing down the sides as I drink.

S: Toasted, bready malt with toffee and caramel notes. Absolutely dominated by a malty sweetness. But wait! There is a grapefruit and orange hop component to this as well! They are serious about this red ale.

T: A strong malt backbone that splits into toast, bready, and toffee flavors quite readily. The mid-taste sees a development and dominance of sweet caramel malt, with the previous flavors taking a back seat. The finish allows grapefruit and orange rind flavors to shine through, with a just-barely-sweet finish that is contrasted by lingering citric hop bitterness.

M: Perfectly medium-bodied, with medium carbonation. Not so light that it feels unsatisfying, and not so heavy that you can't drink it. Well-balanced. Well-masked ABV, although at 6% I suppose that isn't hard.

D: An example of a high-quality red ale. Just fantastic.

22 Picked up at Belmont Station over the weekend... Poured into my shaped SA glass..

2 finger head has great retention and lace.. sorta rocky.. the brew is more orange than red and has a slight haze to it.

Nose has a caramel essence without being sweet.. citrus hops are the only real game in town.. really clean on the yeast front.

Flavor has a pronounced biscuity quality with less caramel than the nose. the hops are citric but sorta muted (IMO) for a PNW amber.. but it is still pretty much without any flaws.. very smooth and very drinkable.. sorta creamy mouthfeel..

Despite my average review, this is a pretty great amber.. I guess, I probably should have waited till I was in the perfect mood for the style.. I've had at least a few other brews from Laurelwood and have always been very impressed.. some of their one-off's at the Public House were fantastic.
