Bottled November 10, 2011
A: Pours an opaque yet clear jet black in color with light to moderate amounts of visible carbonation and some very dark amber highlights. The beer has a half finger tall dark tan head that quickly reduces to a medium sized patch of very thin film and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of oak, bourbon, vanilla, and dark roasted malts. Lighter amounts of chocolate are also present - the overall aroma strengthens as the beer warms.
T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of roasted malts with some lighter notes of dark chocolate. That is followed by some light to moderate flavors of vanilla, bourbon, and oak. Light to moderate amounts of bitterness that fades slowly.
M: Medium to full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth with light amounts of alcohol heat in the finish.
O: Over time with the aging, the booziness of this beer has really mellowed and the bourbon/barrel flavors have improved. I think this beer is actually better with a little age on it than it was when it was first released.

Very dark and nearly opaque with a faint reddish/brown hue. It poured with an inch of fluffy brown foam that showed good head retention and left sticky lacing on the glass. Aromas of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, roast, slight booze. Pretty nice overall with the sharp edges rounded out. The flavour was mostly bourbon and caramel with some roast, booze, and malt presence, bitter alcohol finish, and faint vanilla. Full bodied with creamy, lowish carbonation, smooth but boozy, leaving it a bit rough on the palate. Pretty good overall, but a little heavy on the bourbon.

Pours black with a decent sized beige head that recedes quickly leaving some clumps of lacing.
Lots of oak in the aroma. Good charred oak notes along with bourbon vanilla and roasted malts. A few dark fruits peak in as well with an earthy hop presence. The barrel really stands out on the aroma.
..and on the flavor. Flavor follows closely with a good roasty malt profile along with some earthy hops. Tons more charred oak, vanilla and a good smooth bourbon profile alongside.
Medium to thick bodied with a good creaminess. Carbonation is a bit higher than most BA stouts, but it works well with the hops.
A very nice surprised and bummed to hear they don't make this anymore. Never been a big fan of non-lager Victory stuff, but this was one of my favorites of the night. I usually prefer my BA stouts, bourbon heavy. It's present here, but let's the good charred oak steal the show.

750ml bottled November 2011. Served at cellar temperature.
Pours black with a three finger light brown head that leaves some clumpy rings of lacing and holds a good cap.
Aroma is oak, charred oak, bourbon, vanilla, roasted malts, some coffee & chocolate, burnt marshmallow, dark fruit, earthy hops. Good to very good strength.
Flavor follows suit, roasted malts, vanilla, oak, bourbon, burnt malts, coffee, chocolate, dates, raisins, dark fruit, marshmallow, anise, Storm King’s signature hop bite, mild to moderate sweetness, good bitterness, some alcohol. Pretty oaky. More oak than bourbon.
Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, creamy but with a good carbonation bite.
A nice step up from the regular Storm King, although it retains a lot of the base beer’s character. A lot of charred oak presence and the bourbon is there but not overpowering. There are certainly better barrel-aged Stouts out there, but this is pretty solid.
