A Braumeister Pils using Spalt Select as its varietal hop. I had some on Thursday with Rotsaruch and Maybrick, but that was more of a social experience. Today was all about tasting beer. It arrived with a finger's worth of foaming, bone white lead, but with low retention. They openly cop to filtering this one and it had NE quantity clarity in a deep yellow beer. The nose was definitely Hallertau, but not as robust/pungent as that strain can produce. Mouthfeel was medium with a hoppy snap on the tongue. The finish was the bomb, yo! It had a peppery bite along with a characteristic dryness. Did I mention that I love Pilsners?

On tap at Victory on 6/26/09.

A - Clear pale golden body with moderate carbonation and thin white head that settled into a patchy veil and left lots of decorative lacing around the glass.

S - Citrusy and grassy hop profile with a biscuity malt character. Hints of lemon zest and mild peppery spicy notes are also apparent.

T - Nice spicy and hoppy kick with grassy and citrusy/lemony notes paired with a sweet bready malt backbone. Some light caramel and biscuity malts keep the assertive hops in check.

M - Light bodied with a mild syrupy texture and very crisp, refreshing mouthfeel overall. Nice hoppy bite in the finish.

D - Amazingly drinkable pils, as expected. Fresh, crisp and quite hoppy. This is one refreshing pilsner from one of my favorite brewers of the style.
