Victory has always produced good beer. This one is great, but it still has it's flaws.
The beer pours a clear golden color, with good carbonation at first. However after dissipation of the head, tiny champagne-like bubbles are all that remain. On the nose is white cedar and pine nuts, followed by a hint of citrus.
While not nearly as hoppy as other double IPAs I have sampled, it definitely shows some potential. Upon contact with the tongue, there is a slightly bitter floral flavor finished by a light hint of lemon peel.
Most of the double IPAs I have tasted are very intense while young, and benefit with age. The Hop Wallop is one I would suggest drinking right away. It is mellow, yet intense enough to please those who love hops. It's at its peak upon release. Bill and Ron produce some great brews, and this one is amongst the best they have done to this day. However, It has not yet been perfected. The best thing about this beer is the fact that since it's first release they have not changed much about it. Unlike other double IPAs that have been "Honeyed up".
For those who want to try something new and very good right off the bat, I definitely reccommend trying this beer.

Dark golden color with a little bit of orange tint to it. Really nice foamy slightly off white head on top that does not want to go away. Lots of bubbles. Slight haze. Tons of lacing. The nose is fairly clean. Get some hops as can be expected. Mostly citrus, grapefruit, little lime zest. Floral characters start to come out as the beer warms. Just a tiny slight hint of graininess peeking out from the background. Lets have a taste. Hop resin right from the start. Little oily. Down right bitter all the way through. Bitter un ripe grapefruit rind. All out pine. After taste lasts till eternity. bone dry finish. Tons of bite. Medium body. Fairly spritzy mouth feel. A fantasticly bitter beer, that punishes your palette. The downside is it is not very balanced at all. Really have to struggle to just pick up a touch of malt up front. This is all hop, and straight up bitterness. By the end of the glass my taste buds are completely shredded and will probably have to pass on having another beer tonight. I would drink it again and I could see it being the perfect brew for those who like that style. The name does not lie.
