This was the 2nd beer I had while at JT Schmid's after drinking the samplers and... maybe it was the slight buzz that I had, but I thought this one was pretty decent. Nice amber copper color with nice 2 finger white head. Good lacing down the glass. The aroma was full of hoppy and floral goodness. The taste was not as nice as the aroma however. Not a bad IPA by any means but the hop bitterness and malty sweetness just seemed a little subdued. A mild IPA I would say. This was one of the better samples that I had and if you had to choose one, I would choose this.

On tap at JT Schmid's.
A: Dark orange with two fingers of white froth. Excellent retention and lots of lacing.
S: Balanced. Blend of bread and subjugated citrus, beaten down by centuries of malt dominance - broken.
T: Firm malt profile, reminiscent of bread and to a lesser extent, caramel. Citrus is light and tastes of oranges. Lower moderate bitterness.
M: Medium body with matching carbonation.
Overall: Insipidity itself. Reminds me of IPAs from Washington.

On-tap at JT Schmid's in Tustin
A: The beer pours an orange-amber color with a small white head.
S: Decently hoppy, which is almost surprising at this point. Nice citrus (particularly grapefruit and orange), with a bit of floral hops, too. Some mild bread and a bit of malt sweetness.
T: Like with the nose, there's a nice citrus bite up front with some grapefruit and orange. A light grass on the back end as well as a decent bitterness. This is still a bit on the sweet side, though.
M: Medium in body with a medium level of carbonation.
O: Easily the best house beer that JT Schmid's had. Not a great IPA, but drinkable.

Served much too cold in a pint glass at the JT Schmid's brewpub in Tustin, CA
Opaque dark red amber with no carbonation or head. Some lacing. Hoppy, slightly citrus nose. Medium hop, medium body middle. Slightly bitter finish. Good but not great. Improves on standing. The bartender told me that they keep the tap lines at 32 to serve the big name American (er, Belgian and South African) beers too cold to taste. Definitely need to let this one sit a good 10 minutes before drinking.

On tap at the JT Schmid's Brew Pub located in Anaheim, CA.
Poured a medium amber color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of floral green hops, some citrus, and a little toasty. Tastes of the same floraness, some citrus, and some caramel. Lightly bitter and lightly sweet.

Consumed at brewery, 02/29/08.
6.9% abv
Medium, golden/amber color. Still has small head after a few minutes. Some bubbles still rising.
No real aroma.
Starts off with sweet malt and hints of wood. As malts fade, hops appear. Hop flavor peaks before it becomes overpowering, leaving a lingering but tolerable bitterness on the palate.
Well-balanced, if not outstanding.

This was a surprisingly good IPA. I don't know why, but I wasn't expecting much. At first I thought my waitress had brought me the wrong beer. I had just finished a pint of their amber and this looked almost as dark and red. When I tasted it, though, I knew it was an IPA--and a good one at that. The malt and hops are nicely balanced. The mouthfeel isn't watery at all. I'll go back for another first chance I get.

Had this today at "The District" location.
Bright coppery red. No real head that I saw. Smells florally...not much hops. Tasted of sweet grapefruit, oranges, and some hops. This is a strangely sweet and malty IPA ... not bitter whatsoever, and perhaps more accessible for that reason.
Good, mouthfeel was a little thin, but a very solid effort.
Easily the best of their beers.

I went to the new TJ Schmids at the District in Tusin where i had this IPA, but for the record, the brews in Tustin are brewed at the Anaheim location.
The IPA poured a nice bronzy amber orange color with a solid finger of lively oatmeal colored head that had a stickly look to it. The aroma was fresh boiling wort sweetness with aromatic citrus. Like when you walk by the oranges at the grocery store... rather fragant and piquant, very pleasing.
The taste was super. Sliced ruby red grapefruit on sweet toasted bread. Just a solid hop flavor on a solid malt backbone. I find myself saying this is a balanced IPA but not in an east coast balanced way... damn tasty.
Nicely carbonated and medium on the tongue with a lasting finish. To be honest, i didnt expect this from JT Schmid's IPA. I would get a growler to go if it were possible.

Maybe the big 20 oz. glass pour made me smile too much but this is a great IPA with dark orange colored pour and topped with a balanced boldness nose that speaks up with honey and grain balance. Something tells me that their yeast here really agrees with this style. Broad flavors that evolve over a period of warming up that go from orange fruit to a more rounded malt meets fruit balance. Bold dusty grain and lots of flavor in each sip. THe complexity is impressive here. Get thee to JT!

Beer is named Anaheim India Pale Ale with the 'India" very small and faint so that when I ordered it, I was really expecting to get simply an APA. I was very pleasantly surprised.
Poured a nice deep reddish copper with a decent head that melted to very sticky lacing.
Aroma was sweet malt and a blast of citrus hops.
Taste was surprisingly reminiscent of a double IPA...heavy sweet malt balanced perfectly with citrus hops. Nothing overpowering...more like a wonderful blend. Delightfully sweet and sharp at the same time.
Aftertaste is a pleasant drying from the hops and a slight cloying from the sweetness of the malt used to bring this to a 7.2% ABV.
Not only could I session this...I did...so far as time would allow.

Chances are pretty good that if I'm in a brewpub in Southern California and they have an IPA - it's going in my belly.
Served in a chilled, footed glass - the color was orange. There were hops in there, a good portion. Good ole hops. These were more citrus than the typical California cascade bombs. It was easy drinking and enjoyable.
The best of the 3 beers I tried there.

Pours a copper-orange color with little head but laces of bubbles that continue to stream through a fairly clear beer. Aroma is dominated by hops. Flavor is balanced on the hoppy side as one would expect, but it wasn't as hoppy as other IPA's I've had. I bet they backed off to get more folks to drink it. Overall it's a nice drinking beer. If you are headed to the Pond or to an Angel's game (can you believe they named them The Los Angeles Angel's of Anaheim?) you can't miss this place, and it is worth the stop.

Appeareance: Dark copper body topped by 1/2 finger collar of light tan foam. Clarity was very good and lacing was above the 85% mark
Aroma: Bright floral hops and a sweet malty nose
Taste: Deep, deep initial hop bite on back of tonguewhile mid-taste is dominated by a rich malty sweetness
Mouthfeel: Big IPA with an equally big mouthfeel. Deep, robust, and nice hoppy staying power
Drinkability: A nice Left Coast IPA with very few faults...

On my second trip to TJ Schmid's, I went with the IPA. It pours a golden-orange with a foamy head that leaves lace all the way down the glass. The smell is heavy on the hops, with a strong flowery scent. The taste is immediately hoppy, with little backing it up. It's pleasant, but it's lacking a bit in malt flavor for an IPA. It's also on the watery side. Overall, it's a pretty good IPA and worth trying if you find yourself in Anaheim.

Now we are getting somewhere! This was a pretty good IPA. Amber color with a thin off-white head and some lacing. Nice floral hops aroma. Decent hops bite with a somewhat bitter finish. This is a nicely drinkable beer. I bet this would be good off the cask.
