Situation: Completed the holiday un-decorating...
Glassware: Rare Vos pint...
Appearance: quickly thinning off-white head to a pencil moustache...no lacing; body is dark orange and sparsely effervescent...
Aroma: buttery and malty, almost as a spirit with more potency--otherwise, much as a nut brown...
Palate: medium-bodied, thin and smooth--welcoming and simple...
Taste: slightly metallic, flat, malty and late hints of hops leave this beer oddly nondescript...
Overall: More of a chip/pretzel chaser than a stand-alone sessioon beer--not disappointing, but not upset by its "limited release" packaging either...

Was excited to see this one.. but again Newcastle has let me down again... On the bottle it says "Blood red ale".. it pours a reddish-brown color.. smells a little funky... way too carbonated for my liking. This beer is a step up from their summer ale which was just gross. I wish I could find 6 packs of this.. all they had was a 12.. so I have 11 of these boring beers taking up room in my beer fridge.

A: Crystal clear pour with no visible carbonation, but a huge tan head which leaves very nice lacing on the glass. The beer looks great!

S: I get some notes of honey, grass, caramel, and light seasonal summer fruit. All of these scents are there, however none of them are very potent.

T: Noticeable bitterness, though not front and center. The beer has some alright flavors. Some grassy and herbal notes are prominent on the finish. Nothing much to note about the mid palate or first sip.

M: Somewhat thin on the palate, very water-like. moderate carbonation keeps it somewhat alive whether thats a good or bad thing.

D: Despite it's lack of flavor and aroma, this beer is quite drinkable, though, I expected a lot more from an English Brown Ale.

A: Amber, thin head leaving a little on the outer of a glass
S: Malty, Fruity, Rye, possible hint of lemon
T: Good flavor up front, lingering bite.
M: Smooth with light carbonation.
O: Decent beer. When compared to Newcaste Brown Ale, it does not measure up. Glad I only bought a single. Would recommend it to try at least once.

Oooooh, this be a bitter red ale, folks. It reminds me of Old Speckled Hen...and for those of you who enjoy the bitterness, more power to you. I brought this on tap at work for the Fall season. The name sold it as did the fact it was a child of the Newcastle Family. But not all Nukes are created equal. Through the "Bartending Grapevine" I have heard this most recent batch did not sell as well as the last. All heresay, sure, but unless my Beer Geeks beg me to bring it back at our pub, I'm not doin' it.

Clear amber-ruby color with a bubbly off white colored head. Medium retention and lacing.

Nose is a little weird with a slightly sweet strawberry-like note and light malt. That's about it.

Flavor isn't terrible but it's a little weird. It's kind of all over the place. It tastes like someone poured a Killians's Irish Red into a glass that had Newcastle in it, and maybe another beer or two as well. A little bitter on the front half and then a little roasted malt and nuttiness at the end.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation.

Overall this beer was just a waste of time for the brewers and the drinkers IMO. No need to try this.

A - Pours ruby with a very small head that disappears quickly. Leaves no lacing.

S - Skunk, caramel malt, rust.

T - Predominantly sweet malt with caramel malt in the finish.

M - Medium carbonation with a medium body. Pretty flat though.

O - Overall, for $1.59 a bottle it isn't so bad. No it isn't complex but it is easy to drink and would be a good beer for people who are just now getting into complex beer.

[Best served in a Dimpled Mug]

It poured a sparkling clear medium brown with some red highlights and a head that was just a shade off of white, mostly lasting and was rather large and foamy thus producing some really good lacing.

The aroma was strong of a toasted malt, a mild spruce hop and a cobweb scented yeast with a mild hint of caramel and dried berries.

The taste was very malty with a hint of caramel from the onset with the finish being about the same with mild bitterness and a slight fruitiness at the end. The flavor was short lived which was sort of disappointing as it may have made all the difference in the enjoyment of this brew.

Mouthfeel was light in body and watery in texture with a very lively carbonation.

Overall a light refreshing brew, good if you want to have more than a few but nothing overly special.

Poured 55 degrees into a shaker pint.

Pours a pretty deep red-amber with a relatively thin one finger head.

Smells of a slight sweet malt maybe a little bit of caramel? Rally pretty faint.

Taste is only slightly more robust than the smell. Very bubbly. Not exceptionally pleasing.

Overall, pretty but lacking in structure and over-effervescent. I don't really know what this be is trying to accomplish. It feels like a light beer in mouthfeel, but looks like it tries to be an amber. Probably won't be seeing any more of this in the future.

From a 12 fl. oz. bottle marked 30-06-L158-59-2I.Sampled on August 17, 2012.

It becomes a reddish amber in the glass with reasonable clarity and a small off-white head that sticks together as a ring.

Caramel malts are noted at first followed by a strange peanut butter character and slightly crisp hop note.

The body was thin and astringent.

The taste begins with a weak caramel malt note and then it becomes peanut butter again with a low to moderate bitterness capping it off.

Served on a pint glass.

Appearance: transparent amber, head is minimal maybe 1/10". It's roughly an off-white not looking too heavy.

Smell: because of the fact this brew doesn't smell like beer that is why it is this low. It does like the lightest chocolate you have smelled in your life.

Taste: Little malty, bitter chocolate but incredibly light. Nothing crazy going with this brew.

Mouth: medium, lightly sticking but I like the after effects.

Overall: I would buy it again but wouldn't smell it again. It is definitely not a bad brew, to judge a beer by this review is unjust, it more of how you appreciate it's qualities and inqualities. Salud!

A- pours a dark copper, almost brown color with a small white fizzy head that reduces quickly with minimal lace.

S- right off I pickup concord grape juice, with a bit of earthy skunk and herbal notes, also some graham cracker. This ones all over the place.

T- moderate malt with notes of berries. Rye is prominent, finishes dry and bitter.

M- light-med body, medium carbonation, slightly foamy mouthfeel

O- this one was different, the flavores just seemed unbalanced to me. Worth trying, but not one I will go back to.

A= Deep ruby brown color, nice foamy head

S= Nuts, Toasty malts

T= Like a Newcastle with a berry slight berry taste. To much of a sugary after taste on my tongue. Metallic.

M= Werewolf had a light medium body with low carbonation. Not to my liking.

O= I rather have a regular Newcastle. Not very drinkable. My Wife seemed to enjoy it so I would only buy again if she requested it. No wonder my friend gave it to me as a parting gift When I left his house.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a clear reddish brown with a thin fizzy head. No head retention or lacing at all.

Aroma of caramel, toffee, and dark fruits. A little noble hop characteristic as well.

The flavor has toasted malt and dark fruit. There is also some caramel and toffee. Kind of like regular newcastle with more roast and chocolate. Bitterness is quite light. The mouthfeel really was a let down on this beer as it is way too carbonated, almost like a soda.

Overall, I like regular Newcastle way better. The flavor profile is decent but the carbonation just throws it off. Not something I will pick up again.

This beer pours a clear amber color. The head is one inch in height, and recedes slowly into thin lacing. The aroma is of caramel and toffee, but is quite faint. The taste is similar to the aroma, but a little less faint. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a smooth texture, and moderate carbonation. Overall, this is a decent beer. However, it is on the weaker side for the style, and lacks any sort of complexity.

Overall an average beer not really what I expected. Not the "blood red" it advertises more of an amber. Tastes alright took a little while to get a real taste of it, a lot of taste comes from after taste more so then initial sips. A little bitter with a sweet element that was undefinable and seemed to change the more I drank almost like a hint of berries when I started and a little more grass the deeper in I went.

I bought it for the novelty of being "werewolf" and would bye it again for the novelty not so much personal consumption.

The bottle says "serve cool".

Follow this advice. When COLD, it is not outstanding. Seems a little harsh when cold.

Pour and let it warm up a bit. The beer comes into it's own when it gasses off a bit and comes to a slightly less than room temperature. It has a smoother balance and loses it's harshness.

I'd have to agree that it's more of a marketing gimmick than an unforgettable beer.

I don't love it, but it's a nice diversion.

I poured this oddball beer into my tumbler at 45 degrees. The beer was red for sure and I guess from the slight fruit hit came from whatever those berries are in it. The beer had a bready smell and poured a nice white head. However that did not hang around long. The beer had a bit of a bitter finish. I'm not about this one yet. I have a few more to drink before I really decide.

A dark copper and red appearance, plenty of brown in it, sturdy brown too, not the flimsy brown of their flagship brew. Aroma imparted some of that usual malt aroma from something described as an Irish red ale, it has that soggy wood and red ale thing going for it.

Taste, mild, smooth and red. Requisite mentions of toffee and caramel, a hop presence almost entirely devoid in the entire experience of consumption. English yeast is all over it. Its still got that trademark thinness of a Newcastle beer, although I tend to notice all their seasonals tend to be a little more robust that their brown ale, although still a little thin compared to other beers in the same style.

Overall, I found this to be rather bland and boring, but never bad. Pretty much fits the 'average' definition all around.

A: Pours a ruby red with a good 2 fingers worth of head. Head settles to a nice ring and layer.. Great lacing from start to finish.

S: OK, there is a lot of stuff here... First thing I smell is grapes, little caramel malt, bread, yeast and a hint of grass. Very sweet smelling.

T: Malt at the start .... mixed in the middle is a mix of grapes, bread, yeast and caramel... bread really comes on strong as it warms up.. Finish has a slight bitterness with a sweet aftertaste.

M: Medium body with a sharp medium high carbonation.

O: Strange brew, not a bad brew just a wild mix of things going on.. Not like most English Brown Ales I've had... Give it a shot, worth looking into for the different mix.

12. oz. Brown bottle. Blood Red Ale.

A: Pours a clear blood red. Small forming white head. No lacing.
Clumpy carbonation along the glass.

S: Earthy smoke like. Sweet Malts and a bit of a fruit aroma.

T/M: The rye malts are most dominant with a hit of hop bitterness.
Earthy some smokey caramel. Thick bodied and somewhat smooth.
The aftertaste is heavy and dry.

O: A pretty good middle of the road Red Ale. Malty with little else.
Not something I'd seek out again.

palatable, but it kinda sucks. the pour is nice enough, presenting itself as a dusty amber to copper bodied beer, with more than an inch of huge bubbled airy head. the nose is weak street, extracty malts that dont quite fit the red or the amber ticket, and have a not natural sort of sweetness. the flavor agrees, sweet throughout, with more of an irish malt flavor makign a short appearance in the middle, but with brown and residual weird sugar occupyaing the rest of the taste spectrum. i liked its relaxed feel, but i thought the carbonation wasnt quite forward enough, and the body felt heavy without it, where it might have otherwise been a rounded medium. the packaging was gimmicky, the beer tasted past its prime, and frankly it just didnt taste that good, or like what it purporter to be. not god awful, but you cand find something better on the shelf or in the cooler, trust me.

A bottle that my cousin offered me. I was hoping it would be better than the Newcastle Summer which I thought was not very good.

Pours a dark amber, almost brown color with a decent off white head.

Aromas are kind of grassy, caramel like, and bready. A little odd, but not offensive.

Taste is kind of sweet up front, with some brewed tea, creamy malts, and bread dough. Finish is fleeting, with subtle hints of mineral hops.

Mouthfeel is decent, fairly full, with pretty good carbonation.

Overall, this is OK. It's certainly better than the Newcastle Summer Beer, but that's not saying a whole lot...
