Appearance: Beer poured a ruby red with a huge, frothy off white head. Lacing present throughout the life of the beer.

Smell: Nice malty aroma with the sweet hint of berries and a nice slight grassiness. Dominate aroma of bread and yeast.

Taste: Strong malty flavor with hints of berry, bread and yeast. Slight metallic hint which disappears as the beer warms up. Slight bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with medium high carbonation.

Overall: Not a bad brew. Great for those crisp falls. I wish it hadn't released so early(July) and wished we would see it here in New Orleans but I don't think we will.

Picked up a six at Total Wine in Columbia, SC. Pours a clear coppery color with some ruby highlights. Thick rocky head with a good amount of lacing. The aroma is classic English, malty, caramel,with just a faint aroma of English hops. This beer kinda reminded me of the old Bass before InBev moved the brewing location and ruined it. Well balanced with a fruity slightly malty flavour with a little twang in the finish.I would definitely buy it again. Aaahoo!

A- An amber beer with a surprisingly white , foamy thin head. Light carbonation and sparse lacing.

S- Earthy and vegetal. Maybe like beets ... Some sweetness and light malt, don't know if I get the rye the label mentioned.

T- A light maltiness and the earthy characteristic. A bit of fruitiness (hard to place and only slight rye in the finish. I'd be more into this flavor if it were just bigger in each component. It's all very subdued ...

M- Light to medium, a bit watery in the finish. Some dryness after swallow.

O- Meh ... after the Guinness Black Lager and this, I'm wondering what all the English complain about American beer for.

A - Pours a nice transparent amber color; a small head that dissipates rather quickly; some sticky lacing with high activity levels of carbonation.

S - Some mild hints of caramel and hops.

T - Presence of hops upfront, balanced nicely with a sweet taste of toffee/caramel.

M - Light-bodied with medium carbonation; has a dry finish with a mildly bitter aftertaste.

O - Not a bad red ale; has an easy drinkability with nice flavor.

Poured into a pint glass. Pours clear dark copper with a finger length light beige head that dissipates at a moderate pace. There are some tiny bubbles visible in the beer. The beer smells slightly bready and sweet from the malt with some grain husk type aroma I would expect from a cheaper beer. The beer does taste grainy with some sweetness from the malt. There are some hops on the back end, but not much. It's also a little watery. The body is light with moderate carbonation. The beer is smooth, but is not quite clean on the finish. The drinkability is solid. This is a good beer.

This is a decent beer. Maybe best in small quantities. The appearance is very good -- sharp red color with a foamy inch and a half thick head that dissipates to a thin head over a normal amount of time. I can't tell if I like the smell or hate it honestly -- there's almost a nail polish aroma to it -- it's hard to smell the malt through the alcohol. The taste is solid -- a little bitter, malty, a bit of a bite to it, but nothing truly memorable in my opinion. I once tried a 2 oz. sample of it at a Total Wine & Beer and was impressed; 12 oz. though, a little less so.

Pours a dark copper brown with a half inch of foamy head. Smells of faint caramel and hops. Taste is smooth caramel malt and quite nutty. Mouthfeel is smooth, rich, and medium bodied.

This is soo much better than regular Newcastle. I'm glad I tried it, but I'm not sure I'd go back for more.

Clear coppery colour with a thin whitish cap, good head retention with a lot of streak lacing. The aroma was your basic English character, malty, caramel, earthy hops. Bitterness was balanced, fruity and malty flavour, slightly nutty and a bit buttery. Medium to light bodied with lowish carbonation, decent texture. Pretty easy drinking and worth a try.

This poured out as a brownish red color with a cream colored head on top. The head settles and doesn't leave a lacing or much retention behind. The smell of the beer is malty with some grainy aromas. Not much in the way of hops in here. Earthy is one way to describe the smell. The taste had a light roasted note with some caramel sweetness. The mouthfeel of this beer is smooth, moderately carbonated and drinkable. Overall it's not a terrible beer but not te best either.

A: Clear, reddish-brown with a half-a-fingernail white, fluffy head.

S: Toasty malt and very nutty.

T: Nutty, malty, a touch of blackberry with a hint of bitterness and alcohol. It leaves a mellow nutty flavor in the average finish.

M: Medium

O: A fair ale. It is mellow and pleasant; it would be easy to drink a six pack. It is a solid beer, but it isn't much more than that.

On tap at Kickbacks in Jax. Poured into a snifter. Off-white head, high retention, suddsy lacing on a deep copper, clear body. Aroma includes caramel malts, slight hop bitterness, slight brown sugar sweetness note. Taste is also caramelly sweet and some hint of vanilla and brown sugar. Nothing off-putting, nothing too radical but a very tasty and easy to drink amber like ale.

A. It has a big foamy white head which leaves some lacing behind. It has a dark mahogany color. It is just barely see-through. I don't see any bubbles.

S. A malty and caramel scent. Much like a regular Newcastle.

T/M. It has a strong grape malt taste. It is extremely smooth. A bit dry and light bodied. A hint of a celery taste underneath, but it is just mainly a malty beer.

O. It's a bit bland, but it is very easy to drink and is very smooth. Just meh, but not bad.

Poured into tulip class

Appearance: Coppery red, clear, pours thick white head that slowly fades.

Smell: Malty, sweet, red berries.

Taste: Rye, maltly, somewhat sweet, minimaly bitterness, hints of berries.

Mouthfeel: full bodied, decent carbonation.

Overall: A decent beer, but not as good as the brown ale. A fun concept, but doesn't live up to the promises on the label.

Bottle into a Sam Adams pint glass

A: Pours with a decent white head, but it fades into a small ring very quickly. The body is a clear, dark copper color.

S: Earthy hoppiness is about all I get.

T: Some light earthy hops and tannic tea flavors. Seems like it sticks to style. Thin flavors overall though.

M: Light bodied and a little bit watery. Carbonation is fine. Slightly drying finish.

O: This beer seems to follow style, but in a pretty weak way.

I have always been a fan of Newcastle Brown Ale. It's one of those beers my dad always drank when I was growing up and actually one of the first beers I tried on my own. When I came across Newcastle Werewolf, I HAD to try it. I threw it in my shopping cart and drove home as fast as I could. Unfortunately, the store that I bought it at only had it out as a special, so it wasn't cold. I immediately threw it in my freezer when I got home so that it would get cold ASAP. after about fifteen minutes I couldn't take it anymore. I opened the freezer door and pulled a bottle out. I cracked it open and poured it into a glass. I took one long whiff of the smell and thought to myself, that isn't great, but I bet the beer is. So I poured it into my mouth and let it sit there for a second before swallowing it down and waiting for the aftertaste.

All in all? Meh. I was expecting a lot more, but it could have been a lot less.

Picked up in a "mix-your-own" six pack.

Pours with a orange-amber body (nowhere near blood red, as the label states!) under a white head that quickly falls to a thin layer on the surface.

The nose is rather faint. I smell hints of generic malt and hops, but it is pretty sad.

The flavor actually surprises me with its complexity; this is a cut above the usual mass-produced lager. A rather generic tasting toasted malt flavor pervades everything about this taste, but additional slightly more roasty flavors come in as well making me think that some slightly more interesting malts were used in the production of this beer. Also some hop bitterness makes an appearance with a slight addition of hop flavor that is drying and pleasant. Reading the label I see this was brewed with rye, which explains the slightly more complex character (as opposed to regular Newcastle).

The mouthfeel is pretty much generic, but with slightly better smoothness than average. Forced carbonation is unremarkable.

Conclusion: This was better than I expected, and way better than the usual mass produced "fall beers" that clutter shelves this time of year.

I found this one for a dollar at my House of 1,000 beers. Poured into a pint glass.

A - A head that never seems to quick with pretty sweet lacing. Color is not of a "blood red" more of a dark amber brown.
S - Mild skunky lager yeast meets some sweet caramel malts and a touch of biscuit.
T - I get some sweeter malts pushing more toward the flavoring of vanilla or caramel and some mild skunked hops in a lager style finish with some toasted bread. Not bad for a "sessional"
M - Light to medium on par with the style.
Overall I have had better Irish Red ales but anything is worth trying for a buck.

Deep copper colored with a diminishing creamy head. Some lacing.

Toasted malt upfront in the aroma. Grainy and sweet.

More of the same in the flavor, with a slightly metallic, bitterness. The bitterness lingers for a while, but the malty sweetness does not.

Light bodied. Almost to the point of emptiness. Carbonation is a little too sharp for my taste. An everlasting dry, bitter finish.

Nothing crazy here. A decent amber/red ale. I might buy some more next year, but it's not one I will highly anticipate.

Clear amber and light brown with a very thin, nearly non-existent khaki colored head that eventually leaves lines of lacing down the glass.

The aroma consists of toast, perhaps slightly burned, table bread, and an earthy, grassy hop character.

The flavor follows the nose but is more bitter than I would have imagined. The hops are quite earthy, and there's just a bit of bready sweetness.

The biggest detractor to this beer its its mouthfeel--it's very thin with low carbonation and somewhat metallic. Watery.

Average, I suppose.

Newcastle Werewolf has a medium, cream-colored head and a clear, bubbly, copper appearance with a decent amount of lacing left behind. The aroma is odd: slightly-turned brown bread and berries. The flavor is of brown bread, a little bit of sweetness, some bitterness, and pecan shell. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Newcastle Werewolf finishes easy-going, drinkable, and dull. There is not much too this beer, sadly. I rate it just average. Try it, and see what you think.

Pours clear, reddish amber. Larger and lasting medium tan head, film, collar and decent low sheeting and strands of higher lace.

Nose shouts SWEET, with vanilla, perfumed fruits and caramel malts.

Thin and watery, waves of caramel, honey and some vanilla. Ehh really not anything much going on here. I'd marinate chicken or pork in this stuff, of course cuz of the sweetness, but as far as drinking more then this one bottle? Not likely....

Pours to a faint rust color, but not the deep red promised --- has about quarter inch head. Malts and berries in the nose. Definately pickup the berries in the taste --- slightly bitter and sour in the aftertaste. Overall a decent beer and easy to drink --- works well in Sacramento where the fall is mostly 90+ degrees.

Newcastle Werewolf Ale offers flavors of bread, caramel, grains, rye, nuts, some herbs, and a little bit of dark fruit. The tasting experience ends with a slight bitterness, but it doesn’t last long, returning quickly to the flavor of sweet malt.

Newcastle Werewolf is fall seasonal, limited edition beer brewed and sold with the cooler temperatures of fall in mind. It is classified as an Irish red ale and it is one of those beers that is very middle of the road, but in a mostly good way. I doubt anyone out there will find this beer offensive or turn it down, but I also doubt that many will be wowed by the experience. The flavor is a little too subdued to be taken completely seriously by the craft beer crowd, but at the same time, it has enough flavor going for it to make it worthy of a sample.

Newcastle’s brown ale is the beer that made it popular and like the brown ale, this one is very middle of the road overall. It isn’t anything amazing, but most who try it will find it good enough to recommend.

I actually liked this beer quite a bit more than my score may show. I enjoy the experience of different kinds of beer and Newcastle is a decent beer. Their Newcastle didn't disappoint me, but didn't knock my socks off either. The best thing about this beer was probably its appearance to me. I would recommend the beer to try out to others though if your looking for something new.

A lot of thought, cleverness, and marketing went into the appearance of this beer. They should have put a little bit more into developing the flavor of this beer. I bought it because of the whimsical label, because it is mid October, and because it is a limited release.

Appearance of the beer: Beautiful clear copper coloring with a sandy head which disapates to a thin layer.

Aroma: Sweet caramel malt

Taste: Very dry and slightly bitter. Mainly a malt and rye flavor. Could have used more development. Watery.

Overall: Very drinkable, novelty Hallowen beer. Nice change from all of the fall spice/pumpkin beers. Average
