Poured into a tulip.

Appearance
Hazy pale gold with 3 fingers of white head. Good retention and lacing.

Nose
Papaya, pineapple, mango, lemon, pine and sugary caramel.

Taste
A blast of sugar coated tropical fruits. Papaya, mango and pineapple along with drops of lemon juice. Notes of sweet caramel and candy sugar. A good dose of Pilsner malt. Finishes with pine sap, a speckle of lemon zest and a slice of tangerine.

Mouthfeel
Medium-full bodied, smooth, juicy, oily and slightly dry.

Overall
Tons of tropical and citrus fruits doused in candy sugars. Bold and balanced. Very easy drinking. This has surpassed my expectations tremendously.

I've loved every Exit series beer I've had, and I'm a hop head and a Minnesotan. This is like my dream beer. Thanks TravisR!

Sort of strange looking... bright yellow gold with a slim but very persistent white head. Plenty of lace.

This sort of creamed corn sweetness is layered of tropical fruits and jam.

What a great mix of flavors - orange juice and conifer with nutty malt and honey. The wild rice contribution makes for a great twist on what is obviously a tasty beer to begin with.

12oz bottle best by 09/16/13, tasted 06/10/13

A – Pours a very pale light straw yellow. Somewhat hazy as well. Head is bright white, and quite frothy, albeit thin. Lacing left behind is nice, but spotty.

S – Nice melon notes, some crisp citrus as well. Dominated by a unique bouquet of papaya and mango as well, nicely dry as well, while it remains fruity. Hop profile here is great.

T – Similar to the nose, though the papaya and mango notes do make quite a statement, some dried apricot notes as well. This is not overly sweet, which is great, and whatever malt backbone there is only comes across on the nice and long finish.

M – Carbonation is on the low side, but overall this is nice and crisp for the style, the rice adds a surprisingly nice touch to this one.

O – Nicely drinkable and very refreshing. The hop notes are very tropical and the malt backbone is nicely subdued. ABV is hidden well.

The aroma of this beer is almost perfect very citrusy and floral. The flavor isn't quite as robust but it is great. It is a bit under carbonated for me. It has a nice bitter finish but starts out kind of mellow. Overall this is an excellent beer. Never seen it in bottles.

A - golden, straw colored beer with a 1/2 inch head

S - smells of delicious grapefruit hoppiness

T - this is a tasty brew, awesome grapefruit hop bomb with no evidence of alcohol

M - this is a light beer, really refreshing on a warm day

O - I am a fan of this brew, it is light, hoppy, and yet super tasty

12 o bottle into tulip. best by 09/06/13.

A: very pale body. paler than your typical DIPA. bright white head, frothy. good retention. thick spotted lacing.

S: a lot of melon and cantaloupe. a glimpse of sweet, unfermented sugar. a unique blend of hops.

T: similar to the nose, a bit of sweetness. citrus and melon. subtle and a little bit of pepper in there with the fruity hops.

M: carb is mellow, but not too much so. works well. medium body.

D: very drinkable for a double ipa. dangerous even. super smooth, lightly floral, decent citrus.

Exit 16 pours a slightly hazy golden color with a small lacing head. There is a pine like floral aroma, with hints of citrus. The taste has a very nice floral piney taste. Very nice full flavor, great dryness, also very drinkable, leaves a nice bitter pine flavor aftertaste. Overall bold hoppy flavors, but not a bomb, a full IPA with lots of flavors that is drinkable, very enjoyable.

A- Bright, clear gold with lots of active carbonation. two fingers of head, which receds at a moderate rate. Not too much lacing.

S- orange, tropical fruits, and a touch of pine.

T- it comes across a bit creamy, the rice that they used makes for a really light body, with a lot of hop flavor. The nose transfers well to the palate. Orange peel, some hints of tropical fruit, nice hop biterenes in the finish.

M- Fresh, light bodied. refreshing. creamy. wonderful.

O- Very good.

Picked up a single of this in Totowa last week, having never tried this before. I liked the other beers from the Exit Series and didn't know what to expect with this, given the Wild Rice bend that this beer had. Amazingly, this as NOT as strong as other Doubles and Imperial IPAs and this did not go the "arms race" route that so many other beers of this style have taken. It was strong but the balance is so strong here that the alcohol took a back seat, much to my delight.

The pour to this was lighter than I expected, with a crisp, golden hue that would have seemed more in line with a Pilsener. Not a lot of head here and the lacing was nearly nowhere to be seen but that was about the only drawback to this. The bottle said that this had notes of papaya, pine, tangerine, and mango and even though all of these were present, the wild rice gave this a very grassy and dry bent that hid these flavors for the most part. The tropical flavors were more easily discernible in the nose while the wild rice came out in the taste, giving this a dual nature that reminded me of the Southern Tier Hop Sun. The brightness and crisp aspects of a Lager were certainly present but the wet, tropical flavors that subtly re-emerged in the aftertaste helped remind me what style of beer this was.

To be sure, this was strong but I didn't even notice it until I finished the bottle off. Big-time props to Flying Fish to making the Turnpike cool again and not the punch line of a bunch of jokes told by out-of-staters. This was an IPA in every sense but unlike the offerings from Troegs, Lagunitas, or Green Flash, had enough body, lack of carbonation, and overt booziness to show me that a more earthy take on this style was possible. I rip my state enough but if I were to praise it, this would be one of the reasons why. Flying Fish really impressed me with this one, even if my Devils no longer call 16W home.

Light amber in color with a nice, sticky head. A ring of patchy lace curtains adorn the glass. The aroma is big and beautiful, among the best smelling IPAs I've yet had. Pineapple and other tropical fruit notes explode out of the glass. Underlying fresh pine note.

Tastes quite dry for a DIPA, the rice helping with that. This really puts the focus squarely on the hops. I know those are the talking points from the brewery, but it certainly holds true. Bitterness is high but not really intense. Bright, grassy and citrusy flavors really pop. It's a very clean flavor profile, with no intrusion at all from the alcohol. Carbonation, soft but not "creamy" soft, is almost perfect - could maybe be slightly more carbonated.

Flying Fish did hopheads a service by making this a regular offering, available in six packs. A top notch DIPA that stays out of the high ABV stratosphere. Crisp, clean, hoppy goodness.
