A: Pours an opaque jet black in color as well as being thick like oil and having minimal amounts of visible carbonation along with some light hints of cola brown highlights. The beer has a minimal amount of dark tan head that reduces to a very thin ring at the edges of the glass. No amounts of lacing are observed.

S: There are moderate to strong aromas of dark roasted malts, burnt malts, and some lighter hints of anise + oyster brininess.

T: Upfront there are just shy of strong flavors of burnt and very darkly roasted malts. Underneath the roasty flavors of the malts there is a very light hint of anise/licorice and a salty/brininess from the oysters.

M: Full bodied with light amounts of carbonation. Slightly creamy.

O: Another really enjoyable beer from the Exit Series, I thought this was a really easy to drink oyster stout. I loved the brininess combined with burnt and heavily roasted malt flavors.

A: The beer is jet black in color and poured with a thin tan ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of dark malts and chocolate are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has additional notes of lactose and hints of brine from the oysters.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and quite airy on the palate and has a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very light and easy to drink but has a good amount of flavors.

750ml bottle. No date on this, but know it was released back in 2009 and it might be that old (gift to me). Served in a DFH signature glass.

A: Pours out pretty dark brown color. Not completely black, with some reddish hues on the edges and light getting through when held up to the glass. There wasn't a ton of head, only about a quarter finger of tan that faded into a ring around the edges. Doesn't leave much lacing either, which was surprising.

S: On the nose, it smells really pleasant. Some roasted malts. Some chocolate. Maybe some ocean, when you really dig in there, but that is stretching it. Really it just smells like a nice stout.

T: Took this guy down solo, so got to taste from chilled to warm. The flavors are actually really nice on this guy. Very easy drinking. Lots of roast coffee and dark chocolate character in this one. It's smooth though. The low ABV is nice and makes this one a sessionable stout.

M: It's not a FULL bodied stout. More medium leading to full.

O: Really enjoyed this guy. A- to A beer.

750ml bottle that has been sitting in the cellar just waiting to be opened. I know I got this in a trade, but I honestly can't remember who the BA is that sent it to me. Thanks tho! Poured into a Dogfish Head signature glass.

A - Pours a near black in color but still has decent light penetration revealing good clarity, at least towards the edges. A small cap of dark chocolate colored foam rests briefly on top and falls to leave only a very thin skim coat of bubbles...no lacing.

S - Lots of licorice up front, tons of chocolate, cocoa, a bit of fruity esters, dark roasted malt.

T - Licorice, black coffee, alcohol, a bit of burnt malt, dark chocolate, lots of esters, touches of molasses, hints of tartness and astringency towards the swallow.

M - Smooth and rather full bodied. Carbonation is medium, finely bubbled and fairly creamy. Yeast derived esters and dark roast dominate the flavors and leave behind a burnt toast char after the swallow. Alcohol is noticeable, but kept under control.

O - Overall a good stout...a bit different flavor profile, perhaps from the oysters, but there is nothing oystery about this beer...maybe a bit minerally, but that is it. Quite charcoaly, roasty and chocolately. Goes down fairly easily, but not something I could go thru more than a bottle in a session.

750ml brown bottle with no freshness date.

LOOK: Stout black, brown head that subsides

SMELL: Sweetness, roasted grain, charcoal, faint ocean, mineral, mild molasses, black currants, nougat, cocoa powder

TASTE: Full-ish body, long smoothness, charcoal, earth, salt, roasted grain, coffee grounds, faint ocean, black walnuts, modest hopping, warming alcohol, bunt raisins, dry finish

A really great stout with the bonus of being of the Export style and oysters added for is pretty mellow but enjoyable depth. I'd love to seem them bring this one back.

I don't know when this beer came out but I'm pretty sure the bottle I have is well over a year if not more.

A: Pitch black. No light shines through at all. Carbonation still evident. Creamy mocha less than a finger head that faded quickly. Lacing is apparent.

S: Big milk chocolate, cream, richness, coffee, rich espresso bitterness and subtle undertones of dark fruit...barely noticeable.

T: Slightly salty, astringent, alcohol solvent, lingering coffee, roasty bitterness, burnt bread, toast, bread, deep espresso, sweet fruits probably from english yeast.

M: Thick but not oily or slick as expected. Very dry finish. Sweet up front though.

O: Great beer. It has fantastic dry coffee finish. I love that. Must be from black patent or the like. I really enjoy the roastiness. I also enjoy the sweeter upfront taste although would like more milk chocolate in the taste that was noticed in the aroma. Good stuff. Aging didn't make this beer worse. It's great.

Exit 1 produces a shallow, rich walnut head over a black liquor that puts a film on the glass, passes no light, and leaves a fine lacing.

The expected roasted malts and milk chocolate are accompanied by molasses. While well done, this falls short of the hype.

Light bitterness and a hint of sweetness come from the roasted malts. Character is below expectation with some chocolate and a mild lingering finish.

A medium body-- almost full--with slick, light carbonation. Dry with minimal alcohol.

While Exit 1 may fall short on individual characteristics, it is easily drinkable. Perhaps not a typical session beer given its 7% alcohol, paired with good friends and nursed along in a Dogfish Head snifter, one could make a long lazy afternoon more enjoyable.
