Mostly clear dark yellow with a moderate white frothy head that shrinks down to a thin head pretty quickly. Lots of sticky lacing down the glass.
The usual spicy banana clove aroma, with some sweet malt undertones, and a grainy earthy background. A bit of a lemony smell to it too. Pretty nice.
Much hoppier than I expected, more so than the usual Tripel. Not a bad thing, just not really expected. Citrusy and slightly bitter. Lots more lemon in the taste than the banana/clove combo. Some of the grainy malts there too. This really doesn't taste much like a Tripel to me - more like an American take on a Belgian IPA. But pretty good.
Not as heavily carbonated as the style normally calls for either - with a slightly heavier body too. But the feel is fine for whatever style this is.
As I've already said, this doesn't taste like a Tripel to me at all, but they do call it an "American Trippel", so I guess it's kind of their own take. For what it is, I think it works pretty nicely for the most part. Kind of refreshing and warming at the same time. Sweet but not too crazy, with some nice American hops rounding it out. I like it.

Tasty beer. Not great as Tripel, but a worthwhile summer drink. Pours a cloudy gold color into my Chimay goblet with a small white, bubbly head. Head retention is above average. Some mild spotty lacing on the glass.
Aroma is malty with some spiciness (pepper). Fairly light when compared to the really good Belgian or American Tripels.
Flavor is not up to any of the great Tripels, but still tasty and refreshing. There is definitely a mild hops presence in a malty and spicy beer. Black pepper, mild hops bitterness, some Belgian yeast and maltiness make up most of the flavor. The usual light fruit, Belgian flavor and almost a ripe cheese like flavor found in the best Tripels are missing in this beer.
Mouthfeel is fairly rich and very smooth. Hiding the alcohol, a wery common characteristic in Tripels is accomplished here. You could swill this beer for a while without noticing the 9.50% abv.
Worth having, but not great. A pretty enjoyable drink.
