Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours clear golden color with active bubbles. White foam steps up and disappears. Malty straw nose. Light but full hoppyish taste. Straw too. Little bitter holds. Crisp finish. Refreshingly simple. Great beer for flavor without being too adventurous. Sessionable.

Fairly good Pale Ale. For the price, a good Pale Ale. I bought a mixed six-pack of 12 oz beers under $2.00 a bottle at Total Wine. This was the first one up.

Pours a clear gold color with a little reddish or orange tinge in the gold. Medium size somewhat frothy white head with average retention. Several rings of lacing on the glass.

Smell is disappointing. Mild and somewhat reminiscent of a adjunct lager...a vegetably rice and corn aroma.

Taste is much better. A mild easy drinker with a bit of hops bitterness in an overall mild malty beer. No funky or metallic aftertaste, just a clean crisp flavor

A bit thin on mouthfeel, but crisp and refreshing.

A good beer to accompany food or for a session.

Poured in a pint glass. Nice thick white foam, sticky lace on the glass. Very light on the smell. Nice mouth feel, soft carbonation. I really like the taste. Good balence citrus and malty hops. Slightly darker straw color. Good price for a very good beer. I would buy this one again. Worth trying if you never had one.

Going to New Jersey for this one. Not literally, I'm still on the West Coast. But it isn't everyday that you see Flying Fish here in Orange County, so bring on the 12 ounce bottle and get on to the beer:

Almost golden colored with an orange hue. A soapy head on top brings good retention and several good rings of lace which stay around. The nose is solid; little notes of honey, leaves, husked malt, and even a hint of ash.

Light tasting, yet interesting. A hit of minerals leads off the beer, which eventually adds honey, white bread, hop leaves, and a little fruitiness to the pack. With a lighter-medium body and bubbly carbonation which helps clean up food, I found this to be a pleasant pale ale.

A - light yellow/golden color, small bubbly head that quickly dissipates, with no lacing

S - yeasty, a little fruity

T - nice light fruity taste, a little too yeasty

M - medium bodied, a little similar feel to a wheatbeer

O - overall, a little too yeasty, but still a nice light flavored beer, very drinkable

This is a light, gentle, but reasonably characterful, very enjoyable and highly drinkable ale.

Slightly hazy pale amber/orange, it has a small off-white head soon thinning to foamy ring and wisps.

Aroma is fruity grain, crushed green plants and grass, slightly jammy bread.

Taste is dry fruit candies, white bread (esp in finish), zesty grassy-minerally quality. It is gentle and light but balanced, well-rounded, lively and engaging.

Bottle: Poured a light bright golden color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma consists of sweet malt base with light dry hoppy notes. Taste is also dominated by light dry hoppy notes with a malt base that is quite sweet. Body is quite full with good carbonation. It is indeed pale with limited character though not sure I could drink load of those in a session.

Pours a nice yellow with slight cloudiness. Head is fine and retains well - still some left 10 mins after pour. Smell is very light and almost smells of pilsner. Taste is crisp and great for a hot day - some lemon, some orange and other citrusy flavors. Would be a great session beer.

a hazy orange-yellow pour with small amount of head. smells of orange, oats, lemon, tea leaves. tastes very mellow - a sweet citrusy blend of fruits and malts. hints of orange, honey, bread. not a single trace of hops.. not what i was expecting at all. light body with medium carbonation, no sign of lacing.

don't get me wrong - this is a great summer session ale. sweet yet refreshing, with a low abv so you can keep going steady. the only thing is, this tastes nothing like a pale ale... the taste is more or less like a light mix between a witbier and an amber, which is kind of weird - but not bad... just not a pale ale!

[Best served in a Shaker glass}

The pour was a cloudy straw yellow with a small (1 finger or less) white fizzy head that dissipated quickly down to a small collar and possessed poor lacing.

The aroma was of a faint biscuit malt, a light floral hop and a sweet yeast with notes of citrus (orange and lemon), caramel and a sweet apricot odor.

The taste was a mild malty sweet with a hint of caramel and a slight fruity presence at first, and then got a very mild hop flavor with a light citrus note at the end. The flavor faded very quickly and was quite mild, leaving behind a very lightly hoppy sweet watery taste.

Mouthfeel was light in body and watery in texture with a fizzy carbonation.

Overall a brew that possesses a very mild fruity hop flavor with just a hint of a sweetness and a low ABV, great light session beer...

Appearance: Poured into my new Leinenkugel's beer mug. Amber color, not much residual head.

Smell: Smells a lot more malty than hoppy. Seeing as how I'm a hop hog, this is disappointing.

Taste: Malty flavor, not much of a hop presence. Nothing special really, just a solid beer flavor. Sure as hell beats PBR.

Mouthfeel: Continuing with the theme, nothing special. Not overly heavy, not too carbonated.

Overall: This is a good beer to simply drink; doesn't really have any outstanding characteristics. But, has enough flavor to at least know I'm drinking beer. Probably won't buy anymore unless it's on sale.

12 oz bottle from Trader’s Joe. Pours deep golden with a thin, short lived white head. Aroma is of bready malt, some hops and some off sour notes. Body is light and slightly crisp. Bready malt, some light hops and hints of fruit combine on the palate. Finish is semi-dry and short- lived. Simple, inoffensive brew.

Poured from bottle into Bruery tulip. Never heard of this brewery before. Appearance is golden orange. Vigorous pour yet the carbonation dies down quickly. For an extra pale ale, there is pretty much no hop smell. It smells and tastes more like a lager or pilsner to me. It has that grainy, adjuncty taste to it. Very little hop profile. Mouthfeel is fine.

Overall, I may have got a bad bottle. No date on the bottle, so I can't say really. It's an okay beer at best, but it certainly doesn't taste like an extra pale ale (or a pale ale for that matter)

Pours a pale copper color with a little off white colored head

Smell- Sweet smell of malt, caramel and slight citrus hops.

Taste- Nice mellow taste of sweet malts, citrus and a slight bitter hops finish.

A little lacking flavor. Was hoping for a bit more.

Bought this assuming that the "extra" would mean there's something extra about it but apparently its just a plain old pale ale, oh well. Maybe it'll surprise me.

Pours a clear golden straw color head with lots of visible carbonation and a decent sized white head. Looks refreshing. Smell is very earthy and herbal, nice change up from the citric thing. Grainy taste all the way through with a clean dry finish. Very bright and clean and totally sessionable. Thirst quenching with a slightly slick swallow.

I wouldn't mind this beer on a hot day where I really couldn't handle anything heavy so its not bad. Flavors are very mild but that lends to its sessionability I guess.

***

I think I was being too nice to this beer earlier cause I was parched when I had it. Flavors are really underplayed here.

This beer poured out as a yellowish gold color with a white head on top. The smell of the beer was moderately hoppy with some grainy malt in there too, it's pretty standard. The taste of the beer had a decent bitterness to it and some light sweet notes. The mouthfeel was light and very drinkable to me. Overall this brew was decent, nothing too special.

12oz bottle into pint glass

Pours a clear golden color with a faint amber hue. Thick white head slowly fades into some patchy lacing.

Slight herbal hops with some floral notes. Not very bitter or expressive. A few bready sweet tones with caramel.

Splash of light hoppiness up front, with some floral and grassy tones. Hints of lemon peel and citrus. Bready with caramel. Overall very soft, basic, and under-pronounced flavor.

Lighter medium body, decent carbonation, a little sticky but clean on the tongue. I want to enjoy it, but this is one of the most boring pale ales I've ever had.

Pours a hazy gold with a foamy 2 finger off white head with a lot of bubbles in it that faded slowly and left OK spotty lacing.

Smells of toasted grains, biscuit, toast, cracker, light caramel, herbs and faint hops; this has the classic English pale ale aroma, not an APA nose, and overall it's one sided.

Tastes like it smells, with toasted grains, biscuit, toast, cracker, light caramel, herbs, tea, grass, oatmeal, earthy tones, a hint of brown sugar and faint citrus hops; this was not hoppy at all and should be listed as an English pale ale.

Mouthfeel is light, crisp and almost watery with light carbonation, a light body and a very grainy finish on the dry side.

This went down easy enough, but it just didn’t taste that good to me and seems that something went wrong in the mix or brewing as the malts and grains just don't allow the hops to come through. This is very unbalanced to me, and I drank the entire 6 pack over the course of a week and each time I had this beer is always seemed to be average and a let down. My view is that more hops would boost the flavor to APA or extra pale ale status.

A: Pours well with a thick head. Leaves subtle lacing. Coppery yellow in color. Mostly clear with a tinge of haze.

S: Smells like an English Pub! Hoppy nose grapefruit and lemons predominate.

T: Crisp hop bite with a touch of malt. Very drinkable beer. Grapefruit hops come through with carmel behind it.

M: Crisp and refreshing. Light and dry bodied with low carbonation.

O: Good beer. I'd buy again. Easy drinker and a solid ESB all around.

A: The beer is clear dark yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin off white head that completely faded away.
S: There are light aromas of grainy and cracker malts in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has light flavors of biscuity, grainy and pale malts along with some hints of bitterness from the hops.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is easy to drink but I wouldn’t consider it to be sessionable because it’s not flavorful enough where I could have it all night long; it doesn’t really match up compared to some of the other beers in the style.

Slighty haze golden color with a thing head.

Earthy, grassy hops. Caramel malt. meh.

Pretty clean, low carbonation.

Definitely not a go-to APA. There are many others that I'd much rather have.

12 oz. bottle,

A: Pours goldenrod with a medium white head, no lace, good retention.

S: Lemon, honeysuckle, orange, a flowery nose.

T: Nice mix of grass, lemons and candied oranges. Nice malty residual sugar play and some minerality. A satisfying mix of flavours.

M: Light-bodied, fairly crisp, easy going carbonation.

O: This is quite a good pale ale. It's not a hop bomb, but very well balanced, I enjoyed it quite a bit, don't understand the low rating overall.

(12oz bottle from Total Wine Desert Ridge). Pours a hazy golden-orange color with thin white head. Carbonation is quite active. Aroma has cardboard (old bottle?), some apricot, and hay. Taste is sweet with malt character as well and a bit of bitterness. The taste is more fruity though. Medium bodied with an oily texture. Smooth, sweet finish. A very easy-to-drink beer. I like it.
