I had this on tap and it was okay. Clean and refreshing, light and drinkable, as a pale ale should be, but a bit watery for my taste, and not a very impressive character to it.

Had on tap at Delvino's in Belfast, ME.

Light fizzy head, faint hint of lacing, semi hazy light tan copper orange color.

Nose light grassy pale hops, light reddish malts, decent hops, grassy floral.

Taste lighter, grassy floral hops, decent bitterness, slight herbal earthy hop, grainy reddish malts little yeasty, little and fairly crisp. Long bitter finish, but more herbal grassy hops and light malt, dry.

Mouth is med bodied, decent carb.

Overall pretty good, nothing special and a bit light on everything but drinkable.

Sampled at Delvinos up near Marshall Wharf.

A - Poured into a standard pint glass clear dark amber hue with a super minimal half finger white head that fades to leave thin side lacing.

S - Aromas of some light malty sweetness and faint grassy hops and light caramel.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with nice malts and soft grassy hops. There is a slight metallic taste on the finish that lingers heavily. Soft cardboard too. Meh

M - Mouthfeel is fairly average for the style.

O - Overall this beer was average for me. Still it was good for the moment and a nice base before Marshall Wharf's fest.

Pours a hazy gold with the head taking up 2/3 of the glass and heavy lasting lace.It's aroma is of wet blankets and, unfortunately, vomit. The flavor is mildly fruity and slightly sweet leading to a long lasting, bitter aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium and sticky. Andrews English Pale Ale is a not very good beer. This beer will be given another chance asap, believe it may have been spoiled.

Into a pint glass:

A: brown colored body with a decent sized tan head that lasts about a minute or so and gently recedes, there is a good amount of ringy lacing as the beer goes down

S: light hop presence with a bit of a grainy maltiness

T: hops up front but centered with a slight hops bite

M: medium body with nothing harsh on the tongue, sessionable, slightly sweet aftertaste, no finish

O: This is a good brew that I would have again

Poured from a bottle into a tumbler, the beer pours with a half inch, foamy, light, frothy, off-white head that is big bubbled. The head quickly settles down into an even film, coating the glass as it disappears into a vibrant, opaque, orange-ruby colored body. The nose is complex, with some smokey roasting, floral highlights, citrus aromas, caramel malt sweetness, and slight spicing. The flavors are very crisp and sharp, with a good dose of dry hops bringing pepper and cedar flavors, along with only the slightest hints of malt and very tart citrus tones. Very bold flavors on an extremely crisp and mid-body. The aftertaste is bitter and tangy sweet, with a drying finish on the end of the palate. Continues to slightly pucker and dry the mouth after you have finished. Good offering for the style.

Review adapted from notes taken 8/30/10

Appearance: Amber colored, a bit darker than I expected, some lacing

Smell: Biscuits, subtle floral hops, some kind of waxiness

Taste: Biscuits and some hard water (minerals) - seems to be an English style - hops are rather dull - there is an undeniable waxiness and solvent-like flavor to this brew that I've encountered in my own homebrews - not necessarily terrible, but some quality control may be in order - not genuinely bad, but not good

Mouthfeel: A little watery, but not bad for the style

Overall: I hope I got a bad six pack because this tastes like an imperfect homebrew

There are some good things about this beer, but mostly I was amazed at how it tasted like something I could make. It's not exactly offensive, but it's not good.

Poured from a bottle into pint glass. Deep amber - like dark southern iced tea. Nice head that lingered. Smells of malt and caramel. Taste was the same - not bitter - but good balance. It left me wanting more - I will make sure I have a good supply from now to fulfil that desire. This brewery is just up the road from my favorite summer spot - hopefully I will get the chance to visit it someday.

Thanks to my Father-In-Law for brining me this bottle from the brewery in Maine. Also brought me one of their Porters

Pours with a couple fingers of creamy off whit head that fades slowly to a cap of foam. A slightly hazy orange/amber beer.. Lots of lacing.

As I type this I still haven't tasted the beer, but I am concerned. I smell a solvent/medicinal smell as well as some diacetyl. This has me concerned.

Flavor is grainy with slight bread tones the diacetyl is certainly present and I'm afraid that classic "homebrew" solvent flavor is there probably due to fermenting temps. The beer does not taste spoiled, but these flavors are noticeable.

A bit watery in the mouth... There is an empty feeling just after you swallow.

Happy to have tried this, but I think they need to work on their fermenting temps based on some of the flavors in this beer.

Reviewed from my notes; poured at the Great Lost Bear. I was at the bar reading through Andy Crouch's Good Beer Guide to New England and was impressed with what he had to say about Andrew's. I was inspired to order myself a pint, as this is a another readily available local beer that I often pass over for something more exotic. I'm really glad I gave it the consideration it deserves.

The beer has a good-sized tan head that recedes with great lacing. The liquid is a beautiful shade of orange. Very little carbonation is visible within the glass. Except that is has been presented to me in a 12 ounce glass instead of an Imperial pint, this is a perfect British style pale.

The aroma has a very subtle hop presence with a bit of whole grain maltiness.

The pale malts up front make up most of this beer's flavor, but the Amarillo hops bring in a slight fruit juice flavor (without any distracting corn syrup flavors). t ends with a subtle hop bite that grows in intensity after I swallow. This is a fine English pale.

The beer has a medium body and low carbonation levels. There is a small coat that is ever so slightly sticky. There is nothing off-putting here.

This is a great session beer. I should really drink this more often. The subtleties of this beer are easily overshadowed by Maine's more adventurous (Allagash, Marshall Wharf) and better funded (Shipyard, Gritty's) brewers, but this is an exceptional brew. If British session beers were as popular as the average Russian Imperial stout, people would be lining up at Andy's door for this beer. Highly recommended.

Bottle purchased at Treats in Wiscasset Maine on a recent road trip.

Appearance: Pours a dull pale orange with a nice 1 finger white crown that displays moderate retention and lace.

Smell: Melon, slightly fruity malt, english hops, and grass.

Taste: Lots of hop bitterness up front that gives way to that melon flavor. Hints of fruity malt and semi-sweet toffee malt appear towards the end.

Mouthfeel: Thin bodied with small carbonation bubbles that are fairly fizzy.

Drinkability: Easy drinker if you can get past the mediocre taste and mouthfeel.

Still drinkin' my way through a recent Maine beer haul.

Clear copper with a 1 finger off-white head. Decent retention but great lacey webbing even on a sultry summer evening.

Smells of spicey fruity esters: good but faint. Taste has a heavy apple juice lean with a heavier than usual (but much appreciated) spicy hop in back. The whole this is undone by an ugly, dry, champagne-ish finish. It's bubbly, it's course, it's...bleh.

A: Thin layer of head on a hard pour, the color is between iced tea and copper, slight lacing - 3.50, S: Lots of biscuity malts, noticeable yet mild hop aroma - quite herbal and earthy, smells somewhat of punky wood - 3.50, T: Significant hop bite for a pale ale though nicely balanced with a solid malt base, dry and with some grapefruit rind - 3.50, M: Medium bodied - 3.25, D: A quite drinkable English Pale Ale that edges closer to APA than most, a brew I would drink again - 3.50

Found this on tap while visiting the Portland area in Maine. It shows a weak copper color with a very non-descript head and little or no lacing. The aroma suggests weak caramel wheat and citrus bite. There's also some hop sharpness in the flavor, vague maltiness, but it's limp and lifeless with low carbonation, and therefore not a sessionable choice. No complexity, flat and not one to pursue based on this tatsing.

A: This beer pours a hazy dark copper color with a one finger of white head. Head recedes quickly leaving minimal lacing.

S: Nose is very weak, slight grain, pale malts, bread and just a SLIGHT hint of hops.

T: Taste is very thin bodied, almost watery of grain, corn, pale malts, breads and yeast and I had to dig for a hops influence.

M: Light body medium carbonation, crisp and clean.

D: This just didn't cut it, somewhat easy going down, not very flavorful, felt very flat, I wouldn't seek this beer our again.

Heard of this beer at Cappy's Chowder House in Camden ME and had to give it a try.

A- Golden copper color, small head that dissipated with lacing left only in the top of the glass.

S- Sweet, some citrus, orange maybe.

T- Tastes like it smells. Some good bitterness and a god blast of hops.

M- Pretty thin but very refreshing.

D- I'll be looking for it on shelves.

A: I've just got to say that the labels on these Andrew's beers are hilarious. Poured with hardly any head at all, that was down to nothing in seconds. Body is a very nice, burnt orange color, and quite cloudy.

S: Quite hoppy and citrusy. Very nice.

T: The citrus and hops are quite apparent, as the beer finishes quite hoppy and dry. Average duration on the flavor.

M: Light bodied, with a thin texture that has a touch of oiliness to it. Average carbonation.

D: A good pale ale that manages to compete with some of the big boys. Very tasty and hoppy.

12 ounce bottle purchased in Waldoboro, Maine.

The appearance is an amber color with a one finger head.
Smell consists of heaps, bread, yeast, invites you to take a sip.
The taste has hops, maltiness and bitterness all blended together, a pleasant blend all in all from this small brewer out of Maine.
Mouthfeel has a creaminess to it, which finishes a tad bitter.
Drinkability is solid, I was impressed by this "old english ale" from Andrews with the attractive dog on the label.

Pours amber with a foamy, off-white head that leaves patchy lacing.

The smell is floral/herbal with mild lemon.

The taste is of herbal/floral bitterness with a caramelish sweet undertone. Mild lemon and salted butter mix in. Mild tartness and dry bitterness come together in the finish.

It is on the border of light-to-medium-bodied with a buttery texture.

It does have a firm "English" character. Perhaps a touch more bitter than most English Pales, but that's fine by me. It is a bit too buttery, but otherwise an enjoyable brew!
