Poured from a 22oz bottle into a snifter

A: Pours a moderately hazy orange-brown. There is a light tan head with decent retention. Very light spotty lacing.

S: Citrus in general and specifically orange peel are immediately present. Grapefruit is notable as well. Some pine notes and a good dose of sweet caramel malt complement each other and hint at a small touch of alcohol.

T: Bitter and floral pine are the main players here. Fairly well balanced, with caramel and toffee notes from the malt providing a nice sweetness to complement the resinous pine. Orange and citrus are still noticeable but blend in quietly between the pine and malt flavors.

M: Medium bodied and just a little oily. Carbonation is mild-moderate.

O: A well balanced IPA. Pine and citrus notes are powerful but tempered by a solid malt backbone.

Cheers and thanks go to mhenson42 for this generous extra during our recent trade. Bomber poured into a tulip-shaped pint glass. The brew appears a a clear light copper to golden color with 2 fingers of tan to yellowish stead head that fades leaving patches and spots of lacing effect all over the glass. Rising bubbles of carbonation constantly maintain a thin film across the top and a light swirl revives about a half finger.

The aromatics include a nice fruity hop punch that is somewhat tropical before getting grassy, rindy and pitted with some floral elements. There is a bit of a perfume-like alcohol aspect to this that gets a bit solvent/fusel as it warms up. More smells reveal a bit of herbal element and the fruit character becomes a bit melon-like as it warms up which isn't my favorite hop scent but it is still enjoyable. The grain quality presents itself with a bit of toasty appeal under the hop character.

The taste is bitter and rindy with hops, a bit of pulp aspect like grapefruit rinds and orange zest. Some herbal flavors mix with some melon character before finishing a bit grassy. A bit of perfume-like alcohol imparts a taste of fruity ester before changing to solvent and warming. The malt carries a low profile that provides just enough backing to let you know it is there with a mild toasty grain flavor. As expected, the hops are the showcase here with the alcohol being a closer runner-up.

This is a medium bodied brew with a moderate to lively amount of carbonation that lightens up the feel overall a bit. There is a pretty solid alcohol impact for less than the listed 9% but it warms you up like it is significantly stronger. Overall it is a decent DIPA and worth a try but this isn't something I enjoyed enough to crave it or want to seek it out again. I think the alcohol could show a little more restraint instead of being more forward and that would increase the overall appeal of it.

Another Texas winner. Imperial IPA that tastes like it should. Texas, I owe you more respect!

Pours clear copper with a nice white head.

Nose is rich and assertive fresh cooked pineapple with fresh pineapple undertones. Pleasant and inviting.

Mouthfeel is rich, full, bold and (again) inviting. Light carbonation that seem indicative of the three Texas brewers I've tried at this "personal" Texas tasting. Nice mouthfeel; integrated and great balance.

Flavor profile is rich cooked/almost burnt oranges and an almost sweet orange/grapefruit peel. There is a "candied citrus" to the flavor profile with a really nice bitter pine/grapefruit skin tone.

Finish is all pine/grapefruit bitter - all in a long lasting good way.

A: This beer pours a nice golden body with a thick white head that quickly fades to nothing more than a ring around the glass. There is also a lot of lace too.

S: This has a FANTASTIC pepper( the pepper you sprinkle on food, not the kind of pepper you make salsa with)hop smell. There is also a little bit of sweet grain with a tiny bit of bitterness.

T: This seriously tastes a lot like Sculpin too me. The hop bitterness is perfect for the style.. some breweries go a little overboard with the bitterness..anyways, the beer lingers for a long time and has just an amazing amount of sweetness once the bitterness fades.

M: This beer has a very nice body and mouthfeel. The body is very full and has a nice bit of carbonation. As I drink this, the carbonation tingles the tip of the tongue and the back of the throat.

O: This is for sure one of the best beers I have ever had from Saint Arnold's. They have always been hit and miss for me, but this one is a home run. Just an awesome beer and cant wait to get this again.

Thanks to a buddy who brought me back a bottle from his trip out there. Pours a deep amber color with a light, creamy head. The nose starts off with a touch of citrus but then turns decidedly into peaches and some grape fruit. The taste starts off with creamy malt resulting from the pale 2-row and caramel malts and Saint Arnold yeast. The hop bitter starts low then builds to a crescendo, but always maintains a balance even in its big finish. The hop flavor continues to be citrusy and peachy, an interesting manifestation of the Columbus, Simcoe and Centennial hops. Medium mouthfeel. Overall a solid DIPA.

A: Poured a deep honey color with good carbonation but the head was short lived, bubbles and lacing died rapisdly leaving small white cap and moderate lacing

S: Not as big as I expected or wanted. Pine, citrus with a little bit of caramel

T: This beer tastes very nice. I get a great mix of light pine and caramel malt upfront. Mdway citrus notes come through with finish if grassy floral hops and light bitterness

M: Medium bodied, well carbonated

O: Good across the board. Really easy to drink, tasty, balanced

On tap at Boondoggles in El Lago, Texas.

This is a great DIPA. In fact, it's my favorite of all that I have tried.

Plenty of grapefruit taste in my opinion, which I'm a big fan of. Lots of hops too as expected. Bitterness is there, but it fits in. Plenty of ABV so be ready.

If it's on tap, its going to be hard to pass up in the future.

Appearance: Arrives with a sturdy head blanketing the clear amber liquid; nice delivery of lacing

Smell: Sugar-coated grapefruit; some caramel underneath

Taste: Grapefruit flavors, right off the bat, with a building citrusy sweetness that adds a caramel dimension in the middle; bitter, citrusy and sweet elements all combine to make a bold statement in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation; some warmth in the gullet

Overall: While it is a tad too sticky and sweet for me, this is still a very good DIPA

A - Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a one-finger, off-white head of foam. It left thin rings of sudsy lace on the glass.

S - It smelled like a simcoe hopped beer. Lots of bubblegum, pine and citrus. Some toasty malt.

T - It tasted of tart grapefruit, bubblegum, orange, tropical fruits and toasty caramel malt.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry, clean finish.

O - This is a very tasty imperial IPA. The best Saint Arnold beer Ive had so far.

Best thing to come out of Houston since Bobby Brown. Hops make it. Challenger, centennial, oh and did i mention king Simcoe??
Bags of flavour, crisp, citrussy and no metallic aftertaste that is so common in US DIPAs.
Defo tastes best in draft, even better at the brewery, but a bottle is also great.
Only downside - i dont have one right now

Chilled 22 oz. bomber into a stemless tulip pint. Bottling date 7.18.12.

Look- Crystal clear medium amber with four solid fingers of frothy off-white head that sticks to the glass. Leaves a few irregular rings of suds.

Smell- Woah. Bold, sweet fruity scent. And I mean bold. Mango, navel orange, and lollipops. And orange squash pre-dilution. Kind of caught me off guard, but in a good way.

Taste- Mellow, very distinctive citrusy flavor that follows the nose, balanced with French bread. Starts with a bit of caramel. Clean, fresh, more balanced than anticipated, more nutty than sweet. Finishes with sun-baked split pine and yellow cake batter. Not as bitter as expected. Floury, powdery character and a bit of grassiness makes itself evident as the glass empties.

Mouthfeel- Light to medium body, juicy feel. Low carbonation. Lightly dry finish

Overall- Does a good job pretending to be lighter than it is without easing up on the flavor. I've never been impressed by St. Arnold and generally find their beers bland, but I'm quite glad I tried this one - pick it up if you can get it.

This is my favorite DIPA. Got introduced to this beauty at the Avenue Pub in New Orleans. Picked up a couple of bottles from Stein's to bring back with me. My review is based on bottles.

It pours a lovely copper color with an inch of beige head that lingers and then fades and leaves a layer on the surface.

It took me a while to place the smell. To me it smells of candied citrus peel with floral backnotes.

Taste is sweet and hoppy with the afforementioned citrus and floral notes. Initial taste is sweet and then bitter as it hits the back of the tongue. Bitterness will linger. Alcohol is present but not overpowering.

Good mouthfeel with sufficient carbonation to even out the body.

Overall this is a wonderfully balanced DIPA and a great effort from the guys in Houston. Hope I get to try this at the brewery in the near future.

Served on cask at Idle Rich Pub in a pint glass.

The beer is golden with a nice finger of white tight bubbled head. The glass was dripping with head.

The nose was basically grapefruit juice with some sweetness.

Lots of citrus character with orange and grapefruit hop flavors. There is some attempt at a balancing sweetness to the bitterness. There is still a bold bitterness akin to Deschutes Inversion. Some pine comes out in the finish.

St. Arnolds needs to tap Keith Stone for a smoothness campaign for this brew.

22oz bottle thanks to SSW117.

A- Pours a golden amber with about a head of slightly off-white head that quickly dissipates to leave almost no head. Some spotty lacing, a little bit below average carbonation.

S- Pretty malty, some hops, but definitely not a hopbomb, some spices, below average aroma strength for an IPA.

T- Malts, spices, some light hops, definitely more malts then hops. Lightly sweet, tiny bit bitter on the finish but definitely more dominated by the malts.

M- Medium bodied, below average carbonation, goes down easy, abv very well hidden.

O- Not bad but I was a little bit disappointed by this one (considering it was rated a 4.21), definitely too dominated by the malts- just not what I expect from an IPA. Abv was very well hidden and not bad too drink. Glad I got to try this, thanks again SSW117.

22oz bottle into a tulip glass

A: Pours a slightly hazy golden/amber color with a finger and a half of very dense white foam. Retention is quite good.

S: Tropical fruity hoppiness mixes with some caramel and fruity sweetness. Balanced sweetness and hoppiness.

T: Tropical fruit sweetness with some dank hops. Also quite bitter. I also get a bit of citrus and piney hop flavors. Pretty straight forward and not great.

M: A bit on the thick side for a DIPA with adequate mouthfeel.

O: Not really a fan. I'm not sure if this is a bit old, but it's not very good.

Burnt orange appearance as poured into a Chimay chalice. Finger-thick, voluminous head.
Smells of pine and grapefruit/ citrus-like. Pleasant and not overwhelming to me.
Nice but small hoppy bite with nice malt balance. Overall very easy to drink, and well-balanced for the near 9% abv.
Mouthfeel for me is nice as far as the carbonation.
Although nothing big stands out one way or the other with this, and I like DIPA's with a more pronounced hop presence, with this St. Arnold brew I really like the hop bite as it warms (as low key as it is). I find it easy to drink as I mentioned, and refreshing. As I'm into my second and final pour, am I picking up more tart and bitterness than before? Endeavor pays off. I will buy this again.

A: Pours a clear golden-brown, with a big bubbly light-light tan head of foam on top. Lots of bubbles in the body, but not too much complexity in the body.

S: Sweet malts. Caramel. Hops. Sweet Pine. Sweet Citrus. Spices. Very sweet smelling brew with spices. A good-smelling IPA.

T: Sweet malty caramel taste with a sharp bitter finish. A little one note. There's some complexity while the beer sits on the tongue, but disappears rather quickly.

M: Medium to heavy body (got heavier as beer warmed) with really good carbonation. Nice much chewiness, and what's there really showcases the booziness. Little bit of an oily feel here. The feel is mostly hit or miss.

O: This IPA is just above average. To the appearance to the taste to the feel. It's mostly a one note brew. Not terrible or anything, but I can get better IPAs at my local grocery store. *Note -- this beer was bottled in April, so freshness might be the issue here. Tough to say.

Thanks to ApostleBrewing for this one.

Nice creamy head rises to 1 finger before fading fairly quickly with decent lacing, semi clear honey amber color.

Nose brings semi sweet malts, light caramel and toffee, then fruity and candy hops, hint of citrus and candied orange peel, not a huge bitterness.

Taste starts with sweetness again, honey even, caramel, toffee, sweet malty flavors etc. bitterness comes with decent hops, slight earthy and candied orange peel tasting hops with a light fruity hop kick, fairly bitter but not crazy. Nice balance and booze is hidden well. Finish is drier, but slightly sticky, caramel malts and nice earthy hops lingering but not bitter.

Mouth is heavier bodied, decent carb, hint of warming booze.

overall nice, not the hop bombs they like to make these days, malty balance that hides the booze well and nice malty flavor and balance with some candy fruity hops. Tasty.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into s tulip glass, this arrived at the store yesterday so I assume it'd mostly fresh. This pours a nice mostly clear amber color with a decent creamy off white head which leaves a lacing. The smells are of pine, and caramel. The feel is medium to a little thick. The taste is pretty great, a nice high amount if hops, something I didn't think Saint Arnold ever did. A little caramel and sweetness to balance it off but the hops are the star here.

Poured from a chilled bottle to a beer mug; what a sight.

I have been experimenting with this hometown brewery for a little while now and I have to say that I am a believer and I see a lot of potential. In particular this beer; I think it is awesome and they outdid themselves.

It pours a reddish amber color evenly throughout, it formed a small one finger head that was short lived for the amount of beer in the glass. (It is a lot of beer for one bottle but I’ll take the challenge). Lacing lasts all the way down, it is not excessive but it is present nonetheless.

The smell!!! The Smell, it slapped me on the face with a strong tropical and citrusy aroma. It is like tangerine and sweet mandarin aromas, there are hints or grains and malts as well.

The taste follows the nose with nice complexity. Notes of orange zest, grape fruit, and a malty sweetness are present which were balanced with the bitterness of the hops and alcohol flavor in such a way that I could not stop drinking it. Hops are at the forth front and not shying away in anyway but I was impressed about how balance this beer feels.

The mouth feel is great. Full body and it coats your mouth with goodness and it also has a nice carbonation. It has a nice bitter and dry finish taste that leaves you ready for the next sip. Dangerously drinkable; it can mess you up before you know it.

It is a must have, I enjoyed this one start to finish even the last drop. I will definitely have this one again.

Endeavour is a looker. Orange gold in color with a soft white cap that lasts and laces the glass. Large hop oil slicked bubbles from a deep pour refuse to pop on the surface.

The nose to me should be bolder for an IIPA. Don't get me wrong there is a strong hop presence with gobs of tropical fruit and pine, but an imperial should punch you in the face with hops.

Now this is what I'm talking about! The taste is almost all hops with a start to finish hop bill supported by sweet caramelized malts. Those hops range from tropical to resin and really hit the spot.

Mouthfeel also steps up the pace with complimentary pinch to the mouth full of hop flavors. A good carbonation delivers that tand to every taste bud and makes this a great drinking experience. I'm glad St. Arnold brought this one back. This is a solid beer and one I hope to see again and again in the fridge. I just have to beat my wife to them before she drinks them all.

The beer is a light semi-transparent amber color with a nice fluffy two finger head that disapears pretty quickly, but laces quite nicely. The nose is dominated by hops, a little piny and grassy, with some citrus, cotton candy, a little roast malt, and some barley. The beer is nice and sweet, surprisingly not too bitter. It's dominated mostly by the hops, with the malt providing the sweetness, the bitterness rounds out on the first taste and upon going down, on the back of the tongue. There is a little citrus/grapefruit in the flavor as well as a little booze. The beer has a nice mouthfeel, nicely carbonated, with a little bite, but very easily drinkable. Overall it's a great beer, not quite as hoppy as I'd like, but definitely the best that I've had from Saint Arnold's.

Saint Arnold Endeavor has a thick, creamy, cream-colored head and a clear, bubbly amber appearance. Lacing is not too heavy. The aroma is of sharp pine oil and citrus, with an underlying cream cheese smell. Taste is of sweet bread, strong citrus bitterness, cheese, and the alcohol does present itself in the undertaste. Mouthfeel is medium, and Saint Arnold Endeavor finishes mostly dry and fairly easy drinking. Even with its odd, slightly off aftertaste, I still think it’s very good.

Firstly, I would like to thank my friend Jeremiah for sending this to me. Not normally available in CA, so this is a nice opportunity to try some out-of-state craft beer!

Unsure when it was bottled, but keep in mind that this beer spent a week on a truck from TX to CA so that may or may not have had an effect.

Poured from a 22oz bomber in to a regular pint glass.

A- Starting off, it pours an amber color, clear with a little hint of red. Very attractive. Poured carefully so there's no head.

S- Hoppy and piney. Unfortunately I've been experiencing allergies so my sense of smell isn't the greatest, but it certainly smells good.

T- Here's where it gets good. It doesn't start off with the usual hop-forward bitterness that most IPAs have. It eases in to the bitterness and hoppiness. Kind of sweet, floral and overall really well balanced. A little bit of lingering bitterness on the back end but it's not unpleasant.

M- medium body, good carbonation. Nothing excessive or exceptional.

O- Pretty damn good beer. Wish my allergies weren't acting up so I could enjoy it more, but still very good nonetheless. From what my buddy Jeremiah tells me, it's $7/bottle which is a little steep considering the local offerings here to me in CA, but still pretty good.
