look: 2.75 | smell: 3.25 | taste: 3 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3
Appearance: The beer pours like budlight with a surprisingly thick and aromatic head. Surprising because this beer is a pilsner. There was slightly more carbonation that I expected, too.
Smell: A nice light grassy smell. The head brought some aroma with it, couldn't quite nail it down in words-- but it was crisp, light, and nice.
Taste: This is a better than average pilsner that has a nice clean, quick, and crisp aftertaste. The taste is not empty, but rather has a subtle, even nuanced, hoppy flavor. Sweet malt taste comes after a carbonation settles.
Mouthfeel: As stated previously, there is more carbonation than I expected. It is not as smooth as you would expect with a pislner, but the bite seems to bring out some of the hoppy flavor. It is a thin beer, but not watery. Thin, crisp, light.
Overall: After the first, I enjoyed this with homemade guacamole and it was a perfect match for fresh jalapeno and cilantro. I plan on buying several 6 packs of this for entertaining people who drink light beer alongside Mexican meals. A superior pilsner to most market bulk buys.

12 oz. bottle poured into pilsener
04/03/13 printed on bottle
L: straw yellow; very light, pale crystal clear yellow with ULTRA white head about 1 inch with strong pour. decent lacing, nothing spectacular.
S: grain ... dare I say even corn? it smells very much like a standard American adjunct lager, mostly stale grain. ocassionally you get a bit of sweetness in there, just the slightest hint of malt.
T: a range that fluctuates from good to poor. on the good side -- sweet, crisp, clean taste of good barley, wheat flavors with that sweetness hinting at just a bit of malt while some solid hops shine through. damn good. on the bad side -- corn. the best part of the taste, however, is that the grainy/corn taste never overpowers and takes hold; there's always a nice bit of sweet malt and barley in there.
F: very nice, full carbonation, good weight.
O: this is what our average American beer should taste like, because make no mistake: It does have some good flavor. I love the bits of sweetness, and the fact that it's got at times a grainy taste in it with a relatively weak nose does not mean it's just another American macro brew. it's not. in fact, it's much better than Saint Arnold's amber ale, with enough flavor to distinguish it from the average adjunct lager.
but it's not spectacular. I'd love to say it is, but it's overall character is just a tick above average, nothing more.

So it's April in Houston and that means its Summer time again. I saw Saint Arnold's seasonal change once again, so I grab a six as I always do. 12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass although sometimes I drink this one straight from the bottle. Aggressive pour right down the center makes a huge white foamy head that I know won't stick around. Golden yellow with little lacing as the glass goes down. Little nose on it, just a wheaty scent. Just an average pils for me, I use to drink this more but it seems my tastes have changed over the years. It's a good sessionable beer but that's about all. Just average in my opinion.
