22oz bomber with a foiled top, vintage date on the back label.

LOOK: Towering froth, hazed amber

SMELL: Green peppercorn, chalky yeast, lemon grass, tart apples, dried grass, papaya

TASTE: Nutty yeast, toasted scali bread, fresh cut apples, passion fruit, mandarin oranges, bitter phenols, buttery, grassy, salt, hop bitterness, bone dry finish

Taking the farmhouse ale to another level with the hopping here, a bit over the top with complexities here but it seems to work sip after sip. A lot of fun to drink.

Served on tap at Sam's in Durham, NC. Poured into a New Holland pint glass.

Pours a darker golden color with an inch thick white head. Attractive and appropriate looking pour. The smell is yeasty and big on the citrus. Thought this was a saison from the name, but the nose tells a much different story. Taste is more of the same as the nose, with a good bit of added hops. Nice balance, true to the Belgian IPA style, good hints of citrus and lemon. Easy to drink. Medium bodied with medium carbonation.

Overall an enjoyable and refreshing IPA true to the Belgian style. Having it fresh on tap was definitely a plus. I'd have another.

Served in a DC Brau tulip.

A: Poured a clear, gold/amber color with tons of visible carbonation and a nice two finger off-white head.

S: Hoppy and grassy, but fortunately more towards the hop side. Like a pine cone with lawn clippings.

T: Pretty assertive with a very prominent Belgian yeast strain (banana) poking through the citrusy hop profile. Lots of flavor packed in here.

M: Nice and spritzy with a slight booze warming and an infinitely non-subtle hop slap on the finish.

O: Fun, fun, fun. Good stuff, good price tag.

Poured from the bottle a dark and clear orange color with two fingers of off-white head. Left behind a good amount of lacing.

Nice aroma of orange, mango, bubblegum, candy sugar and spicy notes.

The taste was much like the aroma with a spicy bite, Belgian yeast, bubblegum, mango, orange peel and candy sugar.

Light-to-medium bodied and dry with a lighter carbonation.

A very tasty Farmhouse Belgian from New Holland. I'm ready for another.

2102 Vintage.

This bottle had about half a year’s time on it. At first crack of the cap it started foaming over. Clearly nice carbonation with a lot of life—very bubbly! Appropriate for the holiday celebration where I brought it.

This poured a golden tan color topped by some nice foam. There’s an estery aroma with a nice hoppy spice kick to it. I get an estery orange blossom scene. The flavor is clearly ‘saison’—estery and lively—with a crisp bitterness and some orange peel on the finish. It’s enjoyable even if (I presume) the hops have faded. I get a combination of orange peel and some stinky cheese characteristics as it opens.

The Farmhouse hatter has a definite rustic edge and a mild funk to it which is welcome in this day and age of mass-produced play-it-safe saisons.

22oz bottle poured into a tulip. Bottled May 8th 2012.

A: Pours an opaque bright orange gold with a 2 finger puffy white head. Tons of visible carbonation in the glass. Head takes a few minutes to dissipate and leaves some splotchy lacing.

S: Has a nice yeasty and hop blend. Spicy attributes to it, sort of a soapiness but also earthiness.

T: Yeasty and malty but balanced out by some nice bittering hops. You can taste all of the aspects of the beer and they are quite pleasant, but doesn't lean any one direction except perhaps belgian in general.

M: Medium bodied with ample carbonation. Very easy drinking, just a tad sticky from the hops but thats not bad.

Overall glad I could give this one a go, could be a little better fresher and on tap but still tasty nonetheless. Good for those who like things a little funky.
