D: easy summer beer, but something about this one just doesn't hit for me, either it's the style or this particular representation. willing to try it again, but would love to have it next to the standards of this style.

Notes from 09/30/2010:

12 oz bottle served at 42* in a pint glass.

A: The pour is a mostly clear, golden-bronze color with a small, fizzy, short-living head.

S: It smells like pale malts, light citrus flavors, and some clove perhaps.

T: It's light and refreshing with pale malts, lemon, banana, and some grass.

M: It is light on the palate and sports a fair amount of carbonation.

D: This isn't the tastiest beer I've ever had but it's very sessionable.

Pours a pretty clear lightly golden color with a lot of fizzy-quickly dispersing head.
Smell is zesty-with some citrus elements.
Taste sort of resembles the candy hearts at Valentine's Day- some tart and sweet chalky quality.
Finish is dry-very limited after-taste of citrus.
Drinks ok-refreshing on a hot summer day-but a little not satisfying in February.

A - Poured into a tall, thin mug. Pours bright and vibrant gold with an almost nonexistent white head that quickly gets outta town.

S - The smell has an earthy, strong dry grass character that is unique in my experiences. Bit of citrus fruit in the mix as well.

T - Again a sort of grassy quality is running things here with a green grape, not-quite-ripe fruit quality and a bit of malty pilsner taste followed up with a pleasant aftertaste.

M - Medium bodied with mild carbonation.

Notes: The quality of the flavor was unusual and is an acquired taste. Well made, interesting, not my favorite from New Holland but good nonetheless.

Color is a faintly pale staw with a little haze in the middle of the glass. Not much of a head that quickly recedes to nothing and very little lacing. The aroma is a pilsner malt with a touch of yeast in the nose and some soft, grassy hops.
The taste is a citric hop and some tart malt at the start tht follows all the way through. Maybe some herbs thrown in at the very ened. Long malt linger. Very drinkable, but a bit watery palate.

Poured from a 12oz bottle. This beer is pale golden colored, very clear, with a thin wet head. The smell is very neutral, even for a Kolsch. Actually I've enjoyed many different Kolsches, and this one is difficult to identify as part of the style. The aroma and taste are malty with just a hint of hops, actually very much like a lager. One of my least favorite Kolsches, disappointing in light of the good beers New Holland is capable of making (the Poet, Night Tripper, etc).

a: pours a light golden color with aboutan eigth inch of head that dissapears fast leaving no trace of lace in the glass
s: citrusy aroma as well as a biscuity aroma
t: biscuity malts in the begginnning followed by citrusy (mainly a lemony) flavor

New Holland Lucid pours a golden yellow with a white head from a brown twelve ounce bottle. The aroma is very mild, perhaps a bit grainy and a bit citrusy. The taste is very nice, a bit citrusy, a little hop flavor and a bit grainy. A very tasty, very easy drinking kolsch.

Another batch of Kolsch for a hot month is grand. The light golden brew has a thin but somewhat creamy white head. Aroma is green grape vines with a small splash of lemon, very earthy and malty like a pilsner, but lacking the hoppiness, as it should. Taste is perfectly clean and malty, grape seeds and fresh green grapes are the dominant taste, some hops at the end lend a citrusy kick, but not the bitterness.

A perfect beer for this time of year and climate. With so much focus on hoppiness, it's nice to be surprised by a malty brew.

Pours a clear golden with a light head. It has a strong, bright, malty aroma. The flavor is sweet and light with an almost honey-like character. There is a slight hop bitterness on the back end. The mouthfeel is light and refreshing. This is a good, refreshing session beer.

Poured this 12 oz. brown bottle into a Reissdorf Stange. No freshness date. The body was golden with active beads of carbonation. The crisp white head started large and settled to a ring and light lace.

Smell was clean and malty. Bready with a slight metallic aroma.

Taste was balanced. Slight tartness and mild sweetness. Bready flavor mirrored the aroma.

Mouthfeel was smooth and medium bodied. Nice summer beer.

Poured from a 12oz bottle and served in a shaker. This beer poured a slightly hazed golden/amber with a short-lived head of off-white foam. No lace. The aroma of the beer was made up of sweet malt, mild lemony citrus, grass, and hay. The flavor included crisp lemon and hay, finished off with a quick hop bite. The mouthfeel was crisp and light-bodied with moderate carbonation. Nice and refreshing. The lemony character in the flavor was a bit strong at times, but other than that, pretty decent.

A - Brassy gold with a hint of mustard yellow. This one's head is a creamy two fingers of white foam, but recedes quickly to a nice foamy cap. Some wet lace is clinging to the glass.

S - Like the appearance, the nose is brassy and tight, with a good whiff of hops. Sweet butterscotch is there, but only just. And the hops are tangy to my nose.

T - Butterscotch, creamy butter, and bitter green hops. This is spicy, tangy, and sweet all at the same time! nice.

M - This is much more full in body than I expected it to be. It's not heavy, but it is slick and buttery....like half and half in my mouth. Carnbonation is smooth, creamy, and round and that only adds to the slick and smooth body. Outstanding.

D - Killer. I'll be buying more of this this summer for sure! This is a major league session brew!

Pours a hazed straw yellow body with a small white head. Some patchy lacing is left on the glass. Aroma is sweet fruity malt and floral hops. Light bodied with a lively medium carbonation. Taste is mostly sweet malt that has some crackery character. Light hopping lends a balancing floral bitterness. Pleasantly drinkable and a good execution of a style that generally lacks excitement.

Light gold pour in a kolsch glass with a big lasting meringue like head. Smell is hay like, grassy, light malt. Taste is lightly crisp and sweet malt with barely the faintest hop finish. Thin body, and a bit sweeter than expected, but drinkable. I see this as a great beginner craft beer. Decent as kolsches go, but I've come to want a bit more hop presence in my beer.

12oz. brown bottle, purchased at Party Source, poured into a pint.

A: Pours a straw yellow with pristine clarity and slow moving carbonation. Short head forms and dies to a fluffy skim. A decent patching.

S: Sweet and crisp. Very pils like. Even a touch of snappy Saaz.

T/M: Light and refreshing. Saaz are there but lightly in spice and bitterness helping to keep is easy. A very small touch of yeast in the back. Malts are light on the palate with just a bit of sweetness.

D: One of the easiest drinking beers I've ever had. Great for sessioning. I think this was my first of the style and it definitely makes we want to seek more out.

Lucid Kolsch
poured into my Trumer Pils stange glass, foams up quickly, very clear golden color. Head remains for a while in the slender glass. light sugary malts on the aroma. Light on the nose, brewed to be that way. Somewhat sweet, citrusy, kind of a gummy sugar residue left in your mouth. Actually too sweet for my liking. This beer was not light and tart like I was looking for in a Kolsch. Actually couldnt drink it all. Stick to Reissdorf!

Appearance: It's a hazy, straw color with a foamy one finger head. Retention was very short and lacing was minimal.

Smell: It's extremely light on the nose. It's got a somewhat grainy smell. Light citrus notes are noticeable. It also has a somewhat offensive metallic aroma to it.

Taste: Very similar to its smell actually. The metallic taste is again a bit offensive. It really is distracting. Other than that there is a bit of citrus sweetness and a grainy, earthy taste to it. Pretty bland.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability: It's light bodied. Carbonation is okay. It goes down relatively easy. But, drinkability is severely limited by its bland taste. Overall, it's not impressive. I wouldn't seek it out again.

The beer poured a crisp golden, yellow color with a nice, white head that soon disappeared. Its nose wasn't impressive, not too much going on, maybe a little grain. The taste was even less impressive than the smell. This brew was watery and appeared almost tasteless to me at times. I question whether the beer may have been a little dated because others have commented on the complexities of its flavor, but I didn't get it. Mouthfeel was average, and felt low on the carbonation. Overall, I would suggest trying an alternate Kolsch.

Appearacne is heavily hazed, tarnished and bronzed. No head. No lace. Grainy sweet aroma. Like a dusty, sweet wort. Carbonation?? Uh no. This beer has the carbonation level of a wort too. Not good. Flavor?? Believe it or not, a little "worty." Not as sickly sweet as wort, but grainy and husky. Wow. I'd have to say this is probably the worst Kolsch I've ever had. And I don't believe it's old. For one, I haven't seen it around this area for that long. And two, I see the numbers 7254 on the bottom of the bottle. I'll guess that means bottled on the 254th day of 2007, though I may be wrong.

This is a tasty beer, quite bubbly and refreshing, which seems to be my thing lately. It has a pleasant smell, although not over-powering which again speaks for the beer, pleasant, but not to full flavored. It is refreshing, but not the most refreshing. Drinkable, but not the most. I like it, but I don't know that I would buy it again.

Poured from a bottle to mug. Has a light golden color and a thin, quickly evaporating head. Also has a thin consistency.

The smell had a cheeselike quality, but also some grains popping up. Not especially appealing.

Not exactly multi-dimensional in the taste department. Some hops and malt, but not much else. An okay taste; light and bubbly, but not substantial.

Not a particularly high amount of carbonation gives this an average mouthfeel.

Overall, this is an okay beer, but not exceptional. It has a light refreshing quality, but not much complexity.

Cheesy aroma, pale yellow with minimal foaming head. Rather light mouthfeel, with a bit of creamy grainess, secondary,and weak dry finish. Unfinishable. Fizzy carbonation and a tad of lemon. Some apple juice.A summer beer at best, though before expirey. Just as unimpressed with a bottle 5 months later.

Here's a good example of a kolsch, and an exceptional gateway beer. Nice light color, minimal head and low on carbonation. Light smell, light taste (yet flavorfull), and light mouthfeel. Not bad traits at all for a kolsch. Some hints of peaches in the taste. Overall an exceptional session beer, and one I wouldn't mind having more of.

Pour is light yellow with a thin head. Nice yeast heavy nose, sweet, biscuits...grass, almost tangy. I dig it.

The taste starts off light, sweet, grainy with a very mild earthy tone and the grass from the nose also present in the flavour. Decent.

The mouth is thin, but not surprising for the style. The drinkability is average, nothing special in terms of the style, or price, not a particularly likely candidate for rebuying.

The bottom line: A fairly run of the mill offering by New Holland. I like the nose on this one, but that's the only real highlight.
