Oaky IPA that’s more than OK.
From my notes:
"amazingly complex, delicious finish, lingering flavor w/ an excellent hop profile. [my friend] said he's never tasted anything like it and I must agree."
Remember when New Holland held something called Hatter Day (or something like that) and released a few different variants of their Mad Hatter IPA? That was a while ago. I thought of this because I am backfilling some missing reviews with notes from 2011 I recently uncovered.

L: Pours brilliant chestnut producing a 1” white foam collar that grips the side of the glass.
S: Vanilla, malt, fruit, melon.
T: Starts malty supported by big, large pitted fruit flavors and a hint of melon. Hoppy bitter finish.
F: Very creamy, medium full body, medium to medium low carbonation.
O: Nice, drinkable beer but needs just a little more cow bell.

I've tried a few of the "hatter" brews from New Holland, and this one seems to be the most underwhelming.
the oak age is something you either enjoy, or wish it was just absent in this type of beer.
this one may be the latter.
by all means try it if you like Oak Aged IPAs, but for me it takes away instead of adding.
regardless, it's an agreeable beer full of hoppy bitterness and the right balance of malt to add some would say an over the top sweetness, but goes well with the aging.
also, cheap and available.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
