Pours out a deep, dark brown with a moderate cafe au lait head that settles to a fine ring. Big nose of chocolate, dark, sweet malts, and some herbal hops. Has some porter-esque qualities to it, but with Belgian esters. Where's the juniper? Flavor is very chocolatey, with lots of dried fruits. Vinous. I get some apples and pears along with some toast and mild herbal hops. Again, where is the juniper? I get more juniper character from beers made with PNW hops rather than form a beer actually made with juniper. Regardless, this is very tasty. Mouthfeel is soft and rather full from the sugars left over in the beer. Drinkability is fine, but I imagine if I had more than the 11.2 oz I have here, it would get tough to get through. Overall, I would recommend this, but I would just warn that, at least to me, there really is no juniper quality to this, and also that I don't think this is really worth the $5 I paid for an 11.2 oz bottle.

L- Very dark. By daylight I can't see through it, held to a halogen bulb it's a very deep ruby colour. Pours with 2mm pale tan head. Head clears quite swiftly, it or my glass the cause?
S- Prominent mollasses and that kind of fruity richness of pressed candied figs.
T- Mollasses plus an aromatic spicy facet, then black treacle and ABV% zing on the palate. The deep/dark unrefined sugar notes linger long. I'm 1/3 way down now, as it gradually warms it's taste is increasingly pungent.
F- Wow, BIG, bold, deep, rich pungent, winter-warmer, slow-sipping beer. That about sums it up!
O- Zero out of place or balance here for me to note. On top of the star-performance above all-in this is a heck of a beer. It is pretty full-on taste-wise but frankly it does it in such a refined and quality way it *really* shines.
Would I buy/drink this one again. OMG YES!
330ml BB: 01/2022. Bought from BelgiumInABox Antwerp/BE for home delivery to me in London/UK.

Wow!

Pours beautifully dark with a moderate head.

Aroma is fantastic, spicy and rich. Smells like a brandy christmas pudding.

Taste is also top drawer, sweet like a real winter brew spicy and caramel. A real winter treat.

Feel is glorious too, silky smooth, velvety.

Overall....an absolute must try, possibly the second best beer to gulden carolus christmas IMO.....possibly.

Pours a deep dark-brown color with a medium top of beige head that dissolves quickly.
Aroma is of dark malts, bread, caramel, plums, prunes, molasses, vanilla and candied sugar.
The taste starts of sweet with nice notes of dark and dried fruits and burned sugar, while the back has a strong malty flavour with nice notes of caramel and dark bread. It then goes to a slightly bitter finish, that is nicely balanced with the malty tones in the back. The aftertaste has a decent lenght. Mouthfeel is oily and smooth with a medium carbonation and a heavy body.
This was a pleasant surprise. A very good tasting and solid strong dark ale that unfortunately is not very well known.

Poured cold from bottle into a tumbler. Deep, dark brown colored body, with a one-finger light tan head that settled to a thin cap leaving a bit of sticky lacing. This is loaded with malty goodness, with big aromas and flavors of dark fruit and dark bread, notes of caramel and molasses, and pleasant roasty bitterness. Lots of spiciness and some alcohol warmth make this a very inviting winter quaff. This beer makes a great pairing with pita chips and aged cheese. Delicious, and highly recommended.

Still one month to the Winter solstice, but it's time for a winter beer.
Winterkoninkske pours a nice dark brown with full head, great look.
Smell is a standard for the style, but mouthfeel is great, so smooth and silky, round and warming.
Taste is sweet up front, sugary, not too hoppy neither too bitter in the aftertaste, just good.
A great beer, even without that bit that make it a masterpiece.
I don't understand the rate under 4 here at BA, because it's so pleasant and very enjoyable.
Tonight I made a contest of Belgian strong dark ale with Chimay blue, both 2015, and Winterkoninkske is truly the winner.

Curious that I first found this brewery only 12 months ago when I started in earnest to check-off the brews in MJ's "Great Beers of Belgium." Hard to find these beers, but this one was worth the experience (and the calories.)
For it is sweet, even for the style. But delicious on a winter night.

MJ said "Winterkoninkske offers rich, dark flavours like treacle-toffee flavoured with mint." I missed the mint, but will look for it next time.

On tap at Engine 15 (JAX).
Very dark reddish-brown body that is topped by a weak head.

Nice aroma that says "Belgian yeast".

Flavor: too sweet up front and. less so, overall. Dark fruits, faint chocolate and spices.

The body is slick, smooth, medium-full but seems a bit under-carbonated.
