Cloudy butterscotch copper. Adequate clotting tan head, thins to a frosting of fizz, no lace, but give it a spin and you get a decent latte froth. Nose of grapefruit, candy sugar, tangerine, general fruity esters.Spiciness emerges from a vegetal background. Medium to light body, taste is tangy, bitterness slides in after. Apple skin bitterness, or, I guess, pear skin. Refreshing for sure, but an odd mix of flavors. The honey doesn't show up as sweetness, but it's there, earthy and buttery. But there's nothing that stands out or takes charge. Aftertaste stays mildly bitter, tealike and thinning. Feh.

On tap at Lucky Baldwins in Pasadena, CA.

Pours a hazy reddish-orange with a foamy bone head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, honey, fruit, and spices. Taste is much the same with fruity and spice flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but I think the smell on this one is slightly better than the taste.

Poured from a 330mL bottle into my Troubadour tulip.

Aged at room temperature for at least a year.

Dark murky body glows like a ruby lampshade when held to the light. A lasting velvety finger of beige merengue rests up top, fed by a steady stream of slow rising micro-bubbles. Thick pasty lacing; good retention.

Unctuous yet subtle aroma that is at once floral and fruity, the esters from yeast forming a lovely intertwining counterpoint to the pear juice. Bread dough and berries add a pleasing base and added complexity respectively.

Sweet malty palate entry with an amplification of the winter fruit and berry elements in the nose. Very subtle spiciness comes forward as the ale warms suggesting a touch of pepper from the yeast. Finishes medium-dry and refreshing. Honey is present but extremely mild and there is almost a hint of chocolate in the aftertaste.

Creamy, soft, medium-full body with decent effervescence.

Delicate and sophisticated yet rustic - a well crafted character-filled Belgian ale that isn't overwhelmed by the fruit or honey.

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a Fullers snifter glass.

Pours a dark yet clear brown colour, with a nice head.

Smells fairly sweet.

Tastes quite bittersweet, definitely tasting the honey and the muffled sweet and tangyness of the pears.

Overall a really pleasant beer, my only criticism would be a toned down bitterness.

33cl bottle, best before 12/2012: poured into a Westvleteren chalice at home during 10/2012.

Considering this beer has both honey and pear syrup in its list of ingrediants I am surprised it wasn't a lot sweeter than it was.

The beer looked a Toffee Apple Red colour, a head of poppong white bubbles started thin and became a wisp and collar very quickly, pity, I like to keep my beers with a head for as long as possible. No sediment left the bottle.

The nose as you'd expect was very floral, I detected Red Berries (but no honey or pear esters) and hints of both caramel and yeastiness.

The taste had Raspberry notes and was extremely floral: not too sweet really, the beer grew on me as I sipped it. The finish is a little harsh (bitter wise) and overall it wasn't a bad beer, might be better in the Spring, when things are warmer and brighter than now.

11.2 oz beer was poured into a pint glass. I got this from volunteering in the BBF last month.

Appearance: This beer poured a dismal head that reduced to nothing. It is an amber color with great clarity and visions of some bubbles coming up through the glass.

Smell: Vanilla, spices, apples, pears, sweetness from the honey, and banana.

Taste: A nice blend of above mentioned aromas. Sweetness of apples, bears, honey, and spices is very tasty and delicious.

Mouthfeel: high carbonation, but smooth, light to medium bodied, and some lingering bitterness too.

Overall: A nice bear that tastes like a tripel, but is an ale with fruity notes. Alcohol is hidden well at 7% and the beer was nice and warming too. The fruitiness of this beer is very cool and interesting.

A: Hazy dark pumpkin color. Good thick head.

S: Belgian mustiness, pineapple, banana, clove.

T: Lots of nutty and vegetable notes. The alcohol really comes through a lot here though. Hits with that clove but the belgian must doesn't overpower the beer.

M: A odd one, the beer has a fuller body but a lighter watery finish.

Overall a pretty solid beer. I didn't get as much fruit as I was hoping for but I think this made good use of the horsey, musty belgian notes as they complimented the beer more than dominated it. It seemed like as the beer warmed the alcohol was better masked by the other flavors that began to emerge.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had an amber color and a hazy consistency. There was a half inch of foamy, somewhat long-lasting head. Very little lacing.

S: A faint aroma of malt, and a harsh herbal quality.

T: Tasted of honey (a surprisingly large amount), a big dose of malt, and some herbs. The flavor here is too thin and a bit on the grating side.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a slightly harsh finish. Medium-bodied.

O: Not the most interesting fruit beer I've had. Could have been better.

Poured from tap at alewife baltimore. Pours a nice golden brown with nice head. Banana clove and sweet yeasty aromas. Great honey belgian yeast flavors with banana and clove, some nice pear notes in the aftertaste. Very drinkable and unique, and probabaly one of the best "fruit" beers ever (I'm assuming all the honey?).
Really nice brew.
