a: This was a very dark brown color. It poured with a smallish light tan head.
s: Smelled of dark smokey malts, cocoa, and of course, coffee.
t: They achieved a great balance between a nice mild chocolate flavor and the coffee. Neither one overpowered the other. Some roasty, moderately sour malts came through as well.
m: Thick enough for the style and gently carbonated.
d: Big thanks to DrDogbeer for this extra. Yeah thats right, a growler for an extra! Who does that?!? Thanks Tom! We all enjoyed this one very much. This is certainly a stellar porter.

A: The beer is nearly jet black in color - traces of brown are visible near the edge of the glass when viewed from above into a light source. It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that died down a bit, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface, a collar around the edge and some lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light aromas of coffee beans are present in the nose - these become a little stronger as the beer warms up.
T: The taste is similar to the smell, except that the coffee flavors are a bit stronger. There is also a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has nearly a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink and has pleasant, mild flavors of coffee beans.

Served on nitro-tap at The Lower Depths in Boston, MA
A: Pours an opaque yet clear very dark brown (almost black) in color with light amounts of gentle visible carbonation along with cola brown, garnet red, and very dark amber highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense creamy light tan head that slowly reduces to a thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and a slightly thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate aromas of roasted coffee over the top of slightly lighter roasted malts. Light hints of bittersweet chocolate are present as well.
T: Upfront there are moderate to strong flavors of dark roasted malts and coffee. Underneath there is a lighter presence of bittersweet chocolate and hints of vanilla. Moderate amounts of bitterness which fade after a short amount of time.
M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Creamy.
O: I am a big fan of this beer on-nitro - it does not appear to suffer the thinness of the body that others observed when being poured on nitro (it was just downright creamy). Lovely flavors of coffee come through but are not overpowering (even had a buddy that does not really like coffee agree that this one was great).

You definitely need to know before you drink this beer that it tastes a lot like coffee. Coffee is the first thing you will taste, a little dry and bitter: that being said, is that why you bought the Coffeehouse Porter in the first place? Lol. Other than that when it pours you get a tan head and its got a great porter/coffee smell. Unfortunately I was drinking it at a colder temperature than I would have liked and I was also STUFFED when I drank it but I will definitely go back for another bottle of this

Into a nonic:
A: dark brown/black body with a two finger foamy white head rises and gently subsides leaving some nice lightly foamy clingy lacing that eventually spider webs a bit
S: espresso coffee, light chocolate, some vanilla comes out as the beer warms
T: bittersweet through the coffee and chocolate, vanilla is way more subdued, malty aftertaste
M: medium to heavy, rich and smooth, sticky sweet finish, not as sessionable
O: probably one of the heavier porters out there, I still liked it, coffee forward - yes, but also has some nice complexities that come out to play, under-rated company - yes, awesome price $3.99 for a bomber

beer: Dean’s Beans Coffeehouse Porter
brewery: Berkshire Brewing
brewery location: South Deerfield, MA
type: Ale
style: Porter
abv: 6.2%
ibu: 36
glass: mason jar
temperature of beer: 55F
Appearance: looks like rich roasted dark coffee, head looks like a fine crema on an espresso
Smell: fruity slightly acidic coffee (kenyan), Dove milk chocolate, bourbon vanilla and a slight hint of lilly flowers
Taste: not as complex as i hoped with the amazing nose. plenty of coffee and rich malty sweetness, the hops provide the perfect balance, there is also a cool little sarsaparilla thing going on that plays nicely with the carbonation. the flavor lingers and fades to a glorious malty mocha finish
Mouthfeel: heavy bodied and chewy
Overall Impression: great beer, if it had caffeine I’d consider replacing my mornin’ Joe.
Food Pairings: flourless chocolate cake with some kind of vanilla bourbon cream. really thick hearty stew made with a porter preferably. Fondue.

Had on nitro tap at dubliner grand opening for free.
A: Small head to start but left crazy lacing, pretty standard for a nitro so hard to judge, for style apporpriate.
S: Tons of fresh grounnd dark roasted coffee, not espresso though, coffee. Some chocolate malts, pungent. Malty goodness.
T: Coffee with cream, brown bread, roasted malts, a little nutty. Some coco beans. A hint of noble/pine hops. So delicous and refreshing, great daytime brew. Very coffee forward.
M: Chewy, no carbonation, super rich and creamy. Standard for a nitro, not really my cup of tea, I prefer mouthfeel on normal draft or bottle, very sessionable.
O: My quintessential coffee beer, the coffee is the star of show. Its an awesome brew, especially on draft, highly reccomended and something every MA resident should try once.

Sent to me by Valdieu2. Thanks! 22oz.
A: Pours a glassy black with a nice tan head. Minor lacing and some good retention.
S: Lots of dry coffee roast, light cocoa, a bit of charred grain.
T: Taste brings moderate coffee, some light acidity from the beans, a tiny bit of caramel and cocoa sweetness, and dry grain.
M: Medium-bodied with frothy carbonation.
O: This is pretty good, although a bit more sweetness might help balance out the dry coffee flavors.

Poured from a bomber into a large wine glass
A - dark brown with tan foam. Poured from cellar temp, produces about an inch of head.
S - smells awesome. Rich coffee, some vanilla back there somewhere. Probably the high point here, top notch.
T - one dementional, but the one demention is pretty damn good. Tastes like cold black coffe, with just the right amount of sweetness and some cinnamon and vanilla on the outskirts. Petty damn tasty.
M - thin, low carb. I tend to hate in thin beers, but, for whatever reason, this one works. Nice presentation.
O - tasty beverage. I got this as an extra in a trade, but if it were available locally, I would graba couple regularly. If you want a beer that's almost more coffee than beer, this is a tasty choice.

A: Pours a very dark mahogany color nearing black with a fingers worth of tan head
S: Lots of coffee and roasted malts, along with a hint of earthy hops
T: Follows the nose. Leads off with the roasted malts and quickly dives into the coffee. The coffee is lightly bitter, sweet, and slightly astringent (not in a bad way). Also get some earthy hops and chocolate towards the end
M: Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth
O: A nice, roasty porter with plenty of coffee flavor. Fairly straight-forward which is a good thing in coffee beers. Very good price point at $3.99 a bomber, as well. Recommended for the coffee beer lovers out there

Poured from a 22oz bottle, best before 05/21/13.
Appearance: A very dark body, fairly huge head that leaves some good lacing. What's left is a fat ring with a tuft of foam on top.
Smell: Rich, chocolaty coffee, creamy. The finish is more on the roasted grains side.
Taste: The base porter is smooth and the layer of coffee on top is pretty good, milky. Aftertaste is a bit more robust coffee-wise.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, average carbonation. The flavors make it mellow with no bitterness.
Overall: Good but not the best coffee flavored beer i've had. It did go well with the pancakes i had for supper.

22 oz bomber poured into a Samuel Adams perfect pint glass.
A: This pours a very dark brown, tan 2 finger head. There's also some reddish amber that pokes through when I hold it up to the light. Quite the amount of lacing as I get through this glass.
S: There is a predominant coffee aroma and not much of anything else. Mighty tasty in my nose. Maybe a little chocolate but that may be a stretch.
T: Coffee. A pretty straightforward coffee taste. Definitely delicious. The coffee flavor has the feel of an ice coffee flavor, as opposed to a regular coffee flavor that comes with most coffee offerings (FBS). Overall this is a refreshing taste.
M: A light feel, almost like a thick water. Doesn't stick to the palate and kind of subsides after a little bit of time. Not bad though; better than some other brews I've had.
Overall: This is a pretty good brew. I'd definitely prefer Founders Porter to this one, as founders has more than just a coffee flavor. With that being said, I do like this and I may pick up a bottle in the future. 4.49 for a bomber isn't such a bad price nowadays. Berkshire Brewing has a winner on their hands with this one.

22oz bottle, generously traded by dope (thanks man), split 3 ways with the ladies, my portion into a Stone 10oz tulip...
A: Dark brown pour with clear tawny and amber edges...tan, foamy head with good lacing.
S: Big 'coffeehouse' aromas is the best descriptor here...freshly brewed light-to-medium roast black coffee...dark caramel, moderate suggestions of a lighter roasted malt character.
T: Sweet(er) roasted notes, coffee and toasted grains, roasted malts, not burnt or acrid...hops dance in and out of the picture and aren't distracting...balanced and fairly drinkable.
MF: Thinner mouthfeel, medium-to-lighter bodied for a porter, goes down real easy...
O: Straight up coffee porter without the tendencies of others...no smoke or burnt notes really, lighter roast character. I prefer a 'darker' tasting coffee porter but this was decent stuff.

20 oz bomber poured into a mug.
A: Pours a near-jet black with a thick, frothy 1" mocha head. Head retains pretty well, leaving some lacing along the sides.
S: Smells absolutely fabulous. Strong coffee and roasted malt aroma with a little bit of dark chocolate in the background. Sort of like a strong coffee milk. (For those familiar with that)
T: Tastes like a nice cup of coffee in the morning. There's also some dark chocolate in the background and roasted malts, which I would have liked to see a bit more of. Regardless, quite tasty. Leaves a mild bitter finish.
M: Smooth and creamy, on the medium-thick side. Good bit of carbonation which helps it along.
O: Overall, it's a fantastic beer for a cold night. It is pretty much exactly what it sets out to be which is, after all, a coffeehouse porter. Super-drinkable and a great after dinner type of drink (In lieu of coffee)

Pours with a nice frothy head and laced the glass too!
Mild nose of coffee beans.
It's a very satisfying porter blanketed by the flavor of coffee-- but in some way I wouldn't call it coffee. It's more like-- a flavor that reminded me of coffee.
Under the penumbra of coffee is a porter. It's got all the essence of a Porter.
A very nice libation indeed!
Cordial mouthfeel-- not too up front and center, but a nice long finish. And I tanked my bomber bottle way too fast-- it's the only one I've got in stock! This is an enjoyable beer!
Overall-- a very satisfying porter. I'll be seeking this one again.

Nice cup of joe. Across the board, solid.
Nice roasty, char malts. Porter-like, mild-dryness. Medium roasted coffee. Good. Coffee is balanced nicely, and clearly present is nose, taste, and body. Tastes like a well-done, light-bodied, porter.
There is almost nothing objectionable about this beer. The body could use a slight amount more oomph. This is a touch too "watery."

The beer pours a deep black brown with a nice finger-width sand-dune-tan head that fizzles slowly away to leaving light clouds and strings of lacing on the glass. The body is too dark to tell if it’s hazy or not, and it also perfectly masks carbonation bubbles, making it a lovely thing to look at. The beer smells in the medium range of potency with nice roasted coffee sitting somewhere in the French roast range. Malts are obviously also present, tending to nice roasted notes that confuse themselves with the coffee aroma, just as they should. Slight caramel and toffee notes are also present and faint leanings towards burnt bread. The beer tastes wonderfully rich with coffee flavors and astringency. The taste opens as slight sweet caramel and then blossoms into roasted heaven with heavy coffee and roasted malt notes. The bitters come nicely off the close of the taste and linger in waves in the mouth. Mouthfeel has just a whisper of effervescence but is velvety and chewy on the tongue with a perfect body to it. Overall this beer is a terrific example of a coffee porter, and is very drinkable and pleasant. The folks at Berkshire know how to do malts, and they do them well. It doesn't really pair well with smoked gouda; though it does bring out more of the smoke in the cheese it cuts right through the coffee taste of the beer. Try this beer, though, it is a tasty malty treat that will go well with a warm fire place or a cool crisp fall day.

S: by far the bestiary of the beer smelling the beer reminded me right away of coffee milk or a coffee frappe ( or milkshake) all with a slight hint of chocolate in the background
T: the coffee taste does come through in this it was like drinking a creamy cup of coffee good carbonation on it and very drinkable the biggest complaint that I have which is the same for most porters I drink is that soy sauce like after taste but it's very very mild in this beer
M: medium heavy beer it wasn't hard to drink and wasn't very sticky

A: Pours black in color and produces two fingers of frothy, creamy brown head. Excellent retention and very attractive lacing. Look superb.
S: Coffee grounds and light chocolate, mild molasses, light espresso.
T: Rich coffee and lightly sweet chocolate, rich roasty malts and a very nice bittersweet chocolate finish. Reminds me of that first cup of coffee in the morning. Leaves a nice coffee biterness aftertaste.

22oz bottle poured into a Victory Golden Monkey Tulip
A: Black pour with a really creamy mocha head. Retention is decent and the lacing is quite nice. Really represents what I would expect from a coffee at a coffeehouse.
S: Light and chocolatey aroma is bolstered by some robust porter roastiness and slight coffee. I wonder how old this might be, because the coffee aroma is not as powerful as I would have expected.
T: The taste is a little light, as the aroma was, on the coffee. It's got that typical robust porter taste, with slight chocolate, caramel and roasted malts. But the coffee is only residual and not really doing it for me. It doesn't make this a bad porter, it's just average.
MF: Light body, but with a nice amount of carbonation. It is a decently drinkable beer even though it won't blow you away.
O: Just average and nothing special. I think it might be a bit too old and I'm missing the coffee. Might try it again.

Was so excited when I saw this at a store across from Boston garden a couple weeks ago. There are some folks on this site that speak so highly of this brew. Not to mention I love coffee brews
A- coffeehouse pours a massive opaque body that would draw comparisons to my daily first cup of Joe at 630am at the office. Mocha chocolate foams gravitates to the top of my dfh snifter and recides back to a fair look of slight foam
S- rich black coffee that is completely saturated with so much coffee grinds after you dump the filters. Here is the best part... There is not a massive sugar and cream presence and I love that in my coffee brews. This can be confused for a cup of coffee.... And I like that!
T- iced black coffee!!! All over the brew. I never put cream or
sugar in my coffee and this embodies it exactly. Dark flavor with dry taste all over the brew. Some chocolate appears midway through that pulls the tasting back into the porter world. If I go through the Tom hortens or dunkin drive thru, I order a black iced coffee and this is it
M- mild catbonation that is followed by a syrupy flavor that does not let down. Really enjoying this coating flavor
O- the ba'ers on the site are right. This is a cup of Joe that doesn't let down. I live the coffee grind/dry combination that makes this brew stay true to a black coffee flavor. I need to do a dance off of coffee beers

Pours a beautiful cola black, with a creaaamy latte coloured head that lingers and lingers. Surprisingly minimal lacing, however.
The smell is primarily dark roasted/burnt espresso grains. Delicious.
The taste follows the nose to an extent. I feel like I'm almost drinking an iced espresso. Bitter coffee, some chocolate underneath, and a bitter espresso roast finish.
This is a smoothe beer, but disappointingly thin and one dimensional. There are some very appealing tastes here, but overall it falls somewhat short. Check it out if you love coffee/espresso, but I don't think it's as good as it is made out to be.
