France 44, for several years when I lived in the neighborhood, was my go-to liquor store. Now it is about halfway between where I work and where I live, so I probably visit the store about 5 or 6 times a year.
The building itself is large, mainly housing the liquor store but also a neat little deli as well. The building is new, built about 9 years ago on the site of the old store location. The main focus of France 44 is on the extensive wine section. Tastings and classes devoted to wine are numerous at this store.
The beer section is towards the back, with a large walk-in cooler as well as regular cooler shelving next to it. The walk-in area has the majority of the foreign & domestic macros, as well as a fairly well-stocked selection of craft 6-&-12 packs. The shelving outside of the walk-in house a decent selection of craft bombers and 750s. A smaller area of singles can be found in the aisle between the coolers and the registers.
I have never had reason to ask for help from the employees here, but have never had a poor experience with the staff.
Prices are a little more expensive than your average liquor store that sells craft beer. It is about what you would expect for this area of town.
Overall, France 44 is a great looking wine store, with a better than average beer selection. The main reason that I visit this store these days is that when local breweries release seasonals, France 44 is sure to have them in stock. That cannot be said about many of the other 'well known' Beerfly beer stores in the Twin Cities, where stock seems to vanish immediately. Worth a visit if you are in SW Minneapolis/Edina.

Stopped in a few weeks back and picked up some Founders Imperial Stout. I decided to go back again on 3/5. There is a pretty nice selection of beers, but wine is their specialty. Most of their beers are in doors, or inside a walk-in cooler.
The selection is not extraordinary, and some of the harder to find beers are overpriced, so if you stop in, keep that in mind. The build your own 6 pack selection was pretty sparse on both of my visits, and did not include much, if anything, from the more popular breweries. Overall, a nice store, and I am glad I had a chance to stop in.

Being from Wisconsin, I wanted to pickup some Surly Furious before I am out of the area. I got a 4 pack of Surly cans for about $10. They also had the Samuel Adams Longshot winners, which a friend of mine picked up.
The selection seems pretty good. Quite a fair selection of 4/6 packs in their cooler. A decent selection of individual bomber bottles as well, except no Lagunita's individual bombers. They had BrewDog and Moylans though.
Their employees don't seem too knowledgeable about beer though. I had a question about the BrewDog, and the question was brushed off. Perhaps they know more about wine or hard alcohol, but for the most part I felt like they didn't really care about the beer they were carrying.

Online only review. I have placed several online orders and have never had an issue. Great selection - most often I'm ordering some combination of Surly, Deschutes, and Odell, but they also have a lot of other midwest brewers. Offerings aren't just the standards either - they had Surly 5 available for a while, Surly Wet, Deschutes Stoic, etc...
Customer service is the real standout though. On my last order they mistakenly had a 12-pack listed online that wasn't in stock. Instead of just removing this from my order as I've had other stores do, they agreed to send it to me with free shipping when it actually came in.
Prices and shipping costs are both very reasonable.

I stopped by this place a couple weeks ago as it was one of the few places that was carrying the new Flat Earth beer. I was in a hurry during my first visit but was impressed so I decided to take another trip back there today. They have a pretty nice set up for beer enthusiasts here. They have seperated the foreign and domestics. The domestics are in a walk-in fridge. Macros line the walls, and the micros are in the center. The best thing about this place is that the beers are organized in alphabetical order by brewer. They start with Abita and Anchor beers and end with Summit. The have a pretty good selection of domestic craft brews. One of the most impressive is their vast Bells selection. They also have a lot of local brews. They have a bunch of Tyrennia beers as well as some New Holland beers. They have a lot of Colorado beers as well. There is a nice selection of Rogue singles and 6-packs. Its hard to summarize all the craft brews here, but in essence there are a lot when compared to most liquor stores in the Twin Cities. The imported beer selection is less exciting. Of course they have Samuel Smith and some other English favourites, but their imported selection isn't really much better than some other run of the mill liquor stores. They have a rack of Belgians, as well as some that are cold, but it is only slightly above average when compared to some other Twin Cities liquor stores. My biggest complaint about this place is that their prices are a little higher than most other liquor stores in town. Despite all this, I'll probably be coming back here in the future when I'm looking for certain craft brews.

I've only used their online website and haven't been to the actual store....yet.
The way the web store is laid out, it is really easy to use and nothing is really hidden or hard to find. The search options and other navigation is right there in plain site.
I really like how you can request products and they actually do work to try to find said products. It's nice when a bottle shop cares for it's customers enough to stock or get in what they want.
The customer service is A+ all the way. They are helpful, understanding, honest and actually serve the purpose. Especially when dealing with people over the internet or web stores, or even on the phone, it almost seems like you're bothering them. At France 44 it's not the case. They really take care of you.
The priciness comes in mainly with the shipping. Most of the stuff I get from F44 is stuff that I can't get here in Chicago and I understand beer prices, but enough of it stacked up can help dilute shipping, but it's kind of a killer when only ordering one thing (especially when there is 1 pack limit per customer and that's all you're there for.) Nonetheless it's shipping, and flat rates are going to be killers regardless.
I've used France 44's online site twice now and will definitely be returning many times in the future.

This review is based on my experiences ordering beer from France 44's website.
This was my first time ordering anything from the internet. It was their selection that made me finally bite. To my knowledge this is the only place you can order Surly online. I personally ordered a 4-pack each of Wet, Furious and Cynic Ale. They basically carry every Surly selection that's available. In addition to that they have Odell, Deschutes, Boulevard and few others that I can't get in Michigan.
I'll tie the service and quality into one here. I placed my order on Halloween which was a Monday. The promptly had my order shipped the next day and I received it on Friday, November 4th. You can't really ask for any better than that with ground shipping. Here's what secured me as a repeat customer. As I said I received the package on 11/4. My 4-pack of Surly Wet was canned the day I placed the order. I can't even get Bell's that fresh! In addition to this the Furious and Cynic Ale were less than a month old.
Their prices seemed to be very reasonable to me. A couple things here and there were maybe a dollar or two more expensive then I would expect but this is balanced out by their shipping costs. There is basically no mark up on the shipping, no packaging/handling costs either. I would not hesitate to place another order with France 44.

ABSOLUTELY HANDS DOWN OF THE BEST BEER STORES THERE ARE! WILL HELP YOU WITH ANY QUESTION AND NOT ACT LIKE THEY KNOW SO MUCH MORE THAN YOU (EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW MORE THAN MOST OF US BEER LOVERES) Karen is extremely helpful and is great with any thing to do with the shipping. I would recommend them to anyone who is wanting to order beer online and receive it without a single problem, there charge for wrapping is minimal, compared to how much they use so that is a huge plus! Go with France44 you will not be upset or disappointed one bit.

I've only had experience with France 44 by placing orders online on their website. This is a fantastic online shop for getting brands I can't get in my area, like Bell's, Surly and Deschutes. I placed an order and everything got here a week later, beautifully packaged to make sure that everything gets here safely and intact. Everything's very fresh, too.
The price is perhaps a bit high with shipping, but that's to be expected, and in fact they're much more reasonable with shipping costs than most other online shops I've seen.
Online ordering isn't something I'll do too often, but now I've found a great shop for when I want these brands that don't normally get distributed to my area.

I just ordered 2 Mikkeller Weasel Calvados and 1 Mikkeller Black Buffalo from France 44's online shop. I had an easy time navigating through the site. Once I placed the order they were very good about emailing me progress and it arrived in 3 days, which is pretty fast since I live in Maryland. The shipping was pretty reasonable and the prices of the beers were the cheapest for any online sourrce I could find. Overall my experience was excellent and I will definately be shopping at France 44 online again!
