The wife and I hit Barley's our first night in A-ville after a drive up from the Triangle. I had been here three years prior and sought this place out.
I was completely surprised that the downstairs (restaurant) section had almost nothing but NC beers on draft. There was one German hefe and a cider from NY, but everything else was from NC ... all over, not just the local WNC breweries. The only reason they don't get a 5.0 is because the selection was geographically limited, but really, I couldn't care less!
We were there on trivia night, so the place was a bit loud and crowded, even at 9:30p on a Wednesday night. The service was really poor. It took at least 10 minutes between ordering our beers and actually getting them. We each had two beers and shared an appetizer and were there for nearly two hours. We made the best of it and played cards while we waited, but if I had been there for dinner, or with the kids, the wait would have been intolerable.
The only food I've had there is the black bean hummus (three years ago) and the artichoke dip this trip. Both were good, if not spectacular. All NC beers were reasonably priced... cheaper than I typically pay for draft in the Triangle.

Large open room, bar to the left, dining on the right. Bar is really quite long.
Tons of draft selection. Somewhere between 20-40, dont recall exactly.
I love that most of the selections were local, which is the point. Much better than the Thristy Monk in that regard.
Had a sandwich that was fairly decent, nothing revolutionary. With so many other awesome food places this aspect can be skipped.
Servers were really patient while you examined the selections, there are so many, and they offer samples which is key in my opinion.
Definitely a must stop in Asheville IMO.

We went here on a Sunday afternoon and drank at the bar upstairs. My wife was on crutches and they were nice enough to let us ride the food elevator to the upstairs bar.
The upstairs bar is very big with plenty of pool tables and dart boards. We didn't play pool but I think I heard someone say it was only $0.10/minute per table, not bad at all.
The bartender was nice and knowledgeable of the beer he had to offer, but had a dry personality. As I was sitting at the bar, a group of craft beer noobs were asking for suggestions to try something new, the bartenders response seemed a little snobbish to me, and I later heard the noobs talking about how rude he was.
Upstairs had around 20 taps, 8 or so were NC beers. Overall it was a nice selection and I had a Lips of Faith beer that was brewed only once. One thing I loved was that there was no BMC to be found anywhere. Didn't try any of the pizza. Prices were pretty reasonable, $5-6ish per beer. Overall, a nice laid back place to drink a beer. I'll have to try the pizza next time.

Great selection of beer and ale. The pizza is superb. This is a very busy place. A lot young college kids partying here. It is very loud. Expect a wait on the weekend. I drank the Highland Porter. Enjoyed it much. There is something for everyone here. I definitely plan on going back.

Large space with a "historic" feel, with a nice long wood bar, tin ceiling, etc. Plenty of room, with well spaced tables. We went during the lunch hour and it wasn't all that busy.
This place has a boat load of taps. The overall quality and selection, left something to be desired. Alot of really nice NC brews, but nothing that was outstanding. I love how the culture in Asheville embraces the beer scene, but overall the beer being produced there falls behind the likes of Michigan, WI, and CA.
We did not try any food, and we did not return during our three day stay. Not that we didn't care of the place, it just didn't offer enough for us to return a second time. There are better options in Asheville, and they are close.
