Appearance: Shining brownish honey-gold, pure and clear. Head is a whitish ivory, smooth and stalwart with fine bubbles and good retention and lacing.

Smell: Deliciously hoppy with huge pine and rosemary notes, plus a fleeting, yet sharp edge of citrus oil, particularly orange, lemon, and oroblanco. In fact it is somewhat reminiscent of a citrus liqueur like limoncello or Grand Marinier. Malts are quieter than the hops, lending only a mild, baked-sugary, caramelly sweetness. Overall it is quite fruity and spicy.

Taste: Malts express themselves much more fully than in the nose, and the hops are no slouches, either. Big, toasty, nutty base of walnuts, toasted sesame seeds, and oats are wedded in a feisty but beautiful marriage to spicy, bitter, citric and piney hops. Balanced, robust, nuanced, and delicious - also quite dry.

Mouthfeel: Very good, full on the palate and dry enough to keep you sipping.

Drinkability. This is a wonderful beer to drink - one of those versatile beers that can be quaffed cold or sipped cool. Unsurprisingly it is very good with haggis and oatcakes.

This beer poured out as a nice golden color. The head was thin and didn't really leave much lacing at all. The smell of the beer has some earthy malts and some light hops aromas. The taste of the beer is bitter and has a little sweetness to it also. The mouthfeel is light, smooth, a little watery to me. Overall I think this was a decent brew but wouldn't need to have it again.

Pours a mostly clear golden brown small film head and great lacing

smells of pine cone hops grass and a bit of sweetness

Taste is very bitter when it hits your tongue and then coats it with an even more so bitterness of citrus rind, the bitter white pith though so I thought it was a bit much. some slight malt and fruit sweetness tries to balance it out but gets kicked in the nuts by his bitter friend.

Smooth and soft on the tongue and the only thing keeping me from drinking too much is the intence bitterness.

A bit one dimensional and not balenced enough for me. I liked it the first time I had it a few months ago better. May be the batch, my palate or the moment. Will still try it again, as I love the brewery.

Had a half pint at NERAX and liked it so much that I was stoked to get to try it again at the Ginger Man in NYC. Served in a tulip nonic. Poured a translucent orange-copper hue with a loose, frothy, bright white head. Very mild nose - a light citrusy character and some pale, toasty malt aromatics. Taste follows nose, but also a bit of a copper character as well as some biscuit malts. Mouthfeel was light-medium in consistency and lightly effervescent. I am truly gaining an appreciation for low abv beers, and REAL ales in particular. A really tasty session brew. If you get the opportunity, give this brew a try.

on cask at local wetherspoons, not too sure if this has been retired then eh?

A: clear, dark teak colouring, with whispy 1 finger head, moderate lacing

S: some nice sweet malts, and a fresh hoppiness, some subtle fruit citric notes

T: very fresh tasting with some nice hop bitterness, subtle fruit notes again balanced well with some malt, pleasant

M: very smooth low carbonation as you come to expect from ales.

D - Very sessionable run of the mill ale, dunno if there is a beer style that is stereotypically related to haggis hunting, but if so, this would be the benchmark

500ml bottle bought from Sainsburys...

Poured a golden orange / light amber colour... Slightly off white head poured thick and foamy and then faded to a thin layer...

Aroma - Quite sweet caramel maltiness, nutty, fruity (light apricot, pear ?), spicy notes, brown sugar...

Taste – Floral, earthy, nice light hop bitterness, light toasted malts, fruity, light caramel sweetness....

Feel - Quite smooth and dry. Medium body.

Overall - A pretty good and very drinkable beer... certainly worth a try..

Coming in a 500ml brown bottle, BB MAY 07. On the label it tells a weird story about Haggis, the traditional festival food in Scotland: "Hunted in the heather covered hillsides of the Scottish Highlands, these reclusive creatures traverse the hillside only in an anti-clockwise direction, due to the unequal length of their legs." Well, it adds nothing interesting to the food nor to the beer, as far as an audience like me is concerned.

A: bright and clear, dark-orangey golden hue, coming with a creamy and thick white beer head dissipating slowly; very low carbonation detected.
S: utterly fruity hoppy nose mingles well with a lightly grainy nose on top of malty base; the citrussy hoppyness is followed by a flow of vanilla and lots of flowery esters, but remaining refreshing and light-bodied. Faintly earthy hops at the back with a touch of spice, like Fuggles mixed with Styrian Goldings.
T: tasting like a cup of ooh-long tea with citrussy leaves in it~~ utterly smooth and tea-like texture prevails from the first second onwards, covering the bed of bitter-sweet grain-ness of malts in the background. The hoppyness provides more body than strong aroma or taste, just like Harviestoun's Bitter&Twisted, rendering the aftertaste superbly mildly bitter, creeping into every corner in the mouth.
M: a beautiful gem this beer is, with a medium-body and so subtle elements truly enjoyable as a bitter and a lo...ng lasting finish at such moderate strength.
D: Harviestoun proves itself a truly brilliant microbrewery again with this oddly-named beer. I can't comment on the suitability of this beer when pairing with Haggis, but I can recommend this beer to anyone with interest in delicate hoppy English bitter.

500ml bottle

Pours with an amber body, creamy thin white head, some retention with a fair bit of lacing

Smell, fresh grassy hops, very english but none the less floral and hoppy, some hint of lavender

Taste, grassy and floral is what this beer shouts, lavender again, nice sweet bitterness

A very good ale, very similar to their bitter and twisted but slightly maltier
