Review: 500ml Can of Saverne 8,8 Premium: ABV: 8.8% vol
On pour I got a dark golden orange beer that produced a very big frothy white head which settled well, with a very good bit of carbonation, can hear it whizzing around. Altogether this beer looks good and looks very appetizing and filling. Get a lot in the can.
No lacing.
Colour does go a little murky after a while.
The smell was quite strong, a beery aroma, was yeasty and malty, and hoppy.
Can definitely smell the alcohol that’s for sure.
On taste, feck me, there is a very strong initial taste, grainy with a very sweet flavour, but it is actually ok. Not great, but ok.
Nice big mouthfuls. Creamy and Tasty.
After you take a taste you get to appreciate it afterwards as it leaves a nice lasting affect in your mouth.
Very bitter and acidic taste, but afterwards it sinks in.
This is a very strong tasting beer, where you get the taste lightning up afterwards, a little while later, weird!! A bit of a slow burner.
A very tasty beer, bitter, hoppy, but manageable, but just about.
Needs to be served cold to be fully appreciated.
Overall it is very tasty. Yeah in the end not bad. Liked it in the end. Strong too.

I bought this can in Zermatt Switzerland while on vacation. Just submitted an update that this beer is not retired. There was plenty of it in the COOP supermarket. That being said, this is a pretty average beer. Pours a completely clear dark gold color with some good carbonation, and a small white head. Minimal lacing. Aroma is of grassy hops, not all that pronounced.
Taste is malty with some grassy hops for balance. There is a bit of an alcohol presence but overall a fairly mild and pleasant lager flavor.
Mouthfeel is about average in richness with a bit of alcohol presence, fairly crisp and light for a high abv beer.
OK summertime drink, nothing outstanding.

Got this beer from my brother after his trip to Switzerland. Presented in a black can with a double yellow circle surrounding a large "8,8" and ringed with the words "strong beer" in English, French, German and Italian.
This beer poured a hazy wet-straw color with a large creamy white head that quickly dissolved down to a thin skim. 8,8 had a lot of small streams of carbonation rising to the surface.
Smell was of caramel and bready malt with light citrus and fruity aromas mingled in. Also a faint bite of alcohol.
Taste started off with caramel malt flavor lightly spiced with pepper. A hops bitterness comes on in the finish as does a mild alcohol flavor and warming sensation.
Feel is medium-bodied, creamy and smooth.
Overall, an interesting beer but nothing to get all worked up about. Alcohol flavor really becomes pronounced as 8,8 warms up to near room temperature, letting the drinker know that this is no beer to be pounded down. Thanks to my bro for setting me up with this one.
