Beck's Dark is one of my everyday, after work go to beers. Easy to drink, flavorful, crisp, simple. Don't need to think a lot about what I'm drinking. When I saw the Sapphire bottle at my grocery store, I though it was a variation of Beck's dark. I was a little disappointed, but still intrigued to try it out anyway. Even though it's been awhile since I've had regular Beck's.

Color is a clear , somewhat bubbly, golden, light amber color. Very quick head and no residual foam.

The aroma is a note or two of faintly toasted crackers and a grass clipping or two.

Crisp, mellow, and a better defined toasty malt flavor than I expected. Typical grassy hop flavors. A little Earthy. Overall, pretty simple and easy to drink. Worth a try if you like pilsners. I wouldn't mind trying a side by side taste test of Beck's and Sapphire.

I am always interested in new hop varieties and when I saw this beer advertising the hop called "sapphire," I was intrigued. When I took that together with Beck's as the brewer, I thought it was a slam dunk. It was only after I purchased a six pack that I noticed it was brewed in St. Lewis, MO... . :(

-Appearance 3.0: Poured out a completely clear, light golden color with little head. Lots of CO2 bubbles all over the place. Not great looking, not bad looking.

-Smell 3.0: Average. Light hops with some sweet barley hints.

-Taste 2.50: Pass the butter! Adjunct corn in the front which transitions into a smooth and somewhat surprisingly balanced middle. Finish is slightly sweet with hints of hominy corn, barley and...white grapes. Yep. I taste white grapes in there. Aftertaste is more corn and some light barley hints. ABSOLUTELY NO HINT OF "SAPPHIRE" HOPS UNLESS THEY TASTE LIKE WHITE GRAPES!

-Mouthfeel 2.50: Slightly creamy, somewhat watery. Off for the style.

-Overall 2.50: I have really, really tried to be fair with this beer and not let my anger regarding being fooled into buying this monstrosity seep in. Seriously, are there real "sapphire" hops? I looked them up on the interwebs and it turns out that they do exist, but are usually spelled "Saphir," since they are German hops that are used in place of Hallertau. Two points to bring up for Beck's: 1.) "Saphir" is one heck of a cooler spelling than "Sapphire." 2.) If you are a German brewery brewing a beer using a new German hop, maybe you should brew it in...I dunno...GERMANY! This beer is not swill, but is not great and certainly is not worth the almost $10 you will pay for a sixer of this brew.

12oz bottle, brewed in St. Louis, MO. Golden with excellent clarity, frothy white head holds good retention. Aromas are lager yeast, grassy hop, very faint pilsener malt. Tastes are oddly floral & fruity, earthy, grassy, sweet, no sharp finish as expected with a pilsener. Body seems like it's actually fuller than it should be, it's medium & creamy. Overall, I had a hard time with this one. Doesn't have much for pilsener qualities, odd flavors. Not good at all.

I have to say this is a beautiful golden amber color in the tall tulip with a decent head. It's slightly sprizty on the tongue, but not very bubbly. The flavor is classic malt liquor, but with a peculiar fruity and earthy taste. It may just be some combination of real malt and hops, but it tastes like something brewed up in the food research lab.

Corn and cereal taste, orange flavoring, winey, dirty, and a hint of Cynar, the artichoke aperitif. Not trace of hop flavor [after I wrote this I see that Sapphire refers to a variety of hop]. Overall, there is some beeriness but it is exactly what I hoped never to taste in a-- whoops! I almost said German-- beer, but it is now an InBev product made by the former AB in the St. Louis factory. All the discussions on "if you were CEO of a giant brewer" are interesting when you taste what they DO produce, in contrast with what good brews they COULD produce.

Beer pours a true gold color. Got about a half-inch of medium-coarse bubble top, but it's fading fast. Some cascade action to the surface is visible.

Very mild malty aroma of sweet cracker and metallic notes. Light grassy Noble hop brings a touch of old dried herb. Not much else.

Ouch. Sweet pale grains are lagered smooth, but the flavor is off. Light bitterness isn't enough to chase away flavors of cooked corn. Barely any hop note. Slight grassiness that's scuffed off by a ringing chime of rosewater alcohol in the finish. That finish lasts way too long, too.

Medium-thin, but with a strange glazed feel. Carbonation is disappointing. Not a great drinker.

Totally boring. Can't define these Sapphire hops from this beer. Warning: Not to allow to warm, drink ice cold.

Decent medium sized white head quickly fell to a very thin lacing above a clear yellow golden colored beer.

Light light sour yeasty aroma with some very light grains blending in.

An even lighter taste than the aroma would have suggested, consisting of more very light grains and just a touch of something yeasty or maybe hopsy.

A very light dry aftertaste without much if any taste on this light bodied beer.

Not a whole lot going on that would make me want to open another one of these, kind of glad I got this one in a mixed 6 pack.
