Notes:
Our Barley Wine is a rich winter ale that is equally a dessert beer. This years brew used German Kolsch malt for the base malt, along with a small addition of crystal and wheat malt. American Cascade hops were used for the flavoring hop additions. The overall profile is well balanced between malt and hops. This years brew is slightly on the dry side, allowing the hops to add complexity with a slight citrus flavor and medium bitterness. This is a great winter warmer. Come in and try it for yourself!

Presentation: 10oz snifter, poured on tap
Appearance: Just slightly hazy dark amber brew, cream-colored head is not much more than a thick ring but sticks around for a bit
Smell: Mild dark caramel, dark fruits, and just a hint of alcohol...not much in the way of hops...this is listed as an American Barleywine, but it seems more English in style.
Taste: Quite similar to the aromas; alcohol is fairly understated, especially for the abv; dark caramel malts and fruitiness; not much in the way of hops...simple flavors, but nice. A good example of a milder, English-style Barleywine
Mouthfeel: Medium-heavy mouthfeel
Drinkability: Fairly high...but this sneaks up on you in a serious way...
Conclusion: One of the better beers I've had from Flatbranch; maybe #2 after their (amazing) Blackberry Lambic

2008 edition.
A - Poured out a somewhat cloudy, rust color with a small, bubbly, tan head. It left soapy trails of residue.
S - Very sweet smelling. Malty aromas and sugary candy notes.
T - It was sweet and malty with a syrup-like taste. It had a mild hop bitterness to balance out some of the sweetness.
M - It was soft and smooth. A medium to full bodied beer.
D - This is a pretty good barleywine. i wish I could try some that they have aged.

Deep copper-amber in color, malty sugary sweet candylike aroma full body, thick and sweet syrupy mouthfeel, very malty caremel flavors with a nice hop bite, balanced with more hops. This tasted a little green, would be much smoother after some aging.
