When I visited: March 2012.
What I bought: Nothing, the prices were shockingly expensive.
What I liked: lots of rarities, as I saw all types of beers from Rogue, Mikkeller, Samuel Adams, and Founders that I had never even heard of. The clerk offered to help us as soon as we walked into the beer section, so the service was pretty good.
What I disliked: Prices were nearly double what I paid for comparable beers at Wine Seller and Plum Market.
Would I go back? Not unless they become more affordable.
Overall Rating: 66

The Main Party Store has an impressive selection of beers, both domestic and foreign. They also have a large walk-in cooler where a large proportion of the selection can be found. They have several special beers that I can find nowhere else. The people behind the counter are friendly. The place is a bit cramped inside, but this is not really much of an issue. The only downside of the store is that their prices tend to be higher than everyone else. Indeed, for some of the special limited release beers, the prices are unreasonably high.

This place doesn't look like much from the outside, and I definitely didn't expect much with a name like "Main Party Store." I was thinking that there would be a bunch of BMC beers and some snacks. I thought wrong. They had a very wide selection of beers and a big walk-in cooler. I appreciated the fact that you could buy a single bottle from any 6-pack in the store. They also had a pretty large selection of bottles only in the single variety, as well as a number of bombers. It is pretty tight inside, especially when the place gets busy, but the selection makes up for it. The only people working in the store are the cashiers up front, so if you're looking for a place to ask someone questions about which beer to buy, this doesn't seem to be the place for you. However, if you have an idea of what you're looking for and want a good selection of local and other beers, this is a good spot.

This place has very tight quarters. A pretty good selection of just about everything. Very nice walk in cooler with 6pks and 12pks. Large row of coolers with tons of craft and import bombers. Facing the coolers is a dry shelf with more singles, bombers and lots of odds and ends. There were lots of old seasonals laying around, and in general a lot of older beers, but no real gems to be had.
Overall, the prices were a little high, selection is pretty good. Nothing too rare, but a good selection of local beers, US craft beer, and imports. Definitely worth returning to.

I didn't expect much from this place. We entered to see 4 bums carrying 40's to the counter. The idea was to pick up some beers before we caught a concert in Detroit, and figured this was the closest place to where we were staying. After perusing all the wine we head to the coolers and BAM! To our surpise, it's not a cooler filled with OE and Hurricanes, but 22oz bottles of Rogue, Sam Adams Imperial, Victory, Stone, and much much more. There was a walk in cooler with 6 packs of so many different types of beer, from Flying Dog to "Beer:30".
The Beer:30 had us laughing for awhile.
The selection really is top notch here, and everything seemed pretty fresh. We picked up a 30 of PBR because we were afraid of the Beer:30 and also got some singles and a 4pack of Unibroue Trois Pistoles, as well as a party pack of Flying Dog. We stayed pretty safe, to say the least. We didn't really get too crazy. It was very inexpensive in my opinon, the 4 pack of Unibroue was only 9.99$. The worst part about it is the deposit on the cans & bottles.
The service was the worst part. Nobody could really help us with anything, there was no parking really, and the two people working the counter seemed to have trouble figuring out actually what the heck was going on.
Overall, a pleasant surprise.

This was probably my favorite shop that we visited while in town for the beer fest.
The downtown area is pretty awesome with walking distance to lots of beer destinations including another really good shop.
We were here after dark so there was a bunch of drunk homeless asking us for money. It doesnt really bother me too much, just slightly annoying to be asked for money all the time.
This place is pretty tight inside, Its hard to see what youre looking at since you have to stand so close to the shelves. There is one very tall, long shelf holding warm singles and large bottles (including a huge, huge Double Bastard for $80) Mirroring that is a line of coolers with yet more singles and large bottles and some 6 packs. In the back is a little walk in cooler that holds only 6 packs and cases.
The rest of the shop is full of liquor and two rows or so of wine.
This place had my favorite selection. A few Kuhnhenn singles, Short's that I havent seen anywhere else, lots of Belgians, Germans and British beers, Arcadia, Arbor and lots of other stuff. Kinda overwhelming for me.

We stopped by this place after leaving Beer Depot because we were searching for a Westmalle Trippel to clone. First time in Ann Arbor and I was surprised again with in five minutes to find two really nice beer stores and selections. Main probably has Beer Depot beat on selection, but overall Beer Depot is probably a little better due to all their beer brewing stuff...Main had a long row of craft, a long row of chilled craft, and then a big cooler in the back with some craft and a lot of macro stuff...The selection was really nice, had lots of staples Belgians and some harder to find ones, and tons of Michigan locals, including three bottles of Kuhnhenn.
This is a place to checkt out if you want to buy some Michigan locals.

Ann Arbor is a whore! Now that that is out of my system, I can get on to the review.
Quality: Main Street looks unimpressive from the street, a corner liquor store from the looks. Parking in front, not a lot though. Inside, three aisles of wine/liquor and one of beer, along with several coolers dedicated to beer.
Service: I neither sought out nor received any help.
Selection: A wide selection, especially in the Belgian realm. I was keenly intent on Michigan breweries (read that as Shorts) but came up empty. A less discriminating drinking will be pleased with the selection. Prices are moderate, in line with the rarity of the beer that is desired. Mad Hatter, Arbor, Founders, and Bells runs through the Michigan list.

visited on a Friday evening - minimal parking out front but a spot was easily obtained. there is a big garage right next to the joint and i'm sure theres free street parking in the vicinity.
very narrow beer aisle - if you can dodge sigma chi chotchbags buying cubes of natty lite, you'll find coolers full of jolly pumpkin, stone, southern tier, great divide and many other bombers. i noticed some obscure arbor brewing beers with hefty price tags. after a few minutes i realized i had not found any sixers, which was my primary reason for visiting
eventually i found the walkin cooler. the first thing i spotted was a bottom shelf full of shorts sixers. i was pretty excited about this since i wasnt sure they were distributed this far south. i scooped 2 sixers of the ipa, a sixer of the brown, and a sixer of the soft parade. i chuckled that they had mishawaka sixpacks. there was also some arbor stuff and lots of other michigan micros
while this place gets a b+, it is absolutely worht a stop if you are coming from out of state. We get a lot of this stuff in Wisco - but there is plenty that doesnt leave the borders.
pricing seemed a tad high, but i guess i dont really know. no service present

This is my go to store if I am in search of something rare, or if I am in the main street area. Good selection of singles bottles both in the fridge along the far wall(mostly 750 ml bottles) and on the shelves facing the fridge (mixture of stuff from all over the world). Also really good selection of six packs in the walk-in cooler. Staff is friendly enough although I have never really tested their beer knowledge. Only draw back is they price things like a campus liquor store (meaning everything is expensive).
